In 2007 Canadian researchers of the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, reported they had found a cure for cancer. Evangelos Michelakis and his colleagues discovered that dichloroacetate (DCA), a common and basic drug already used to treat metabolic disorders, could be employed also for inhibiting the growth of tumors and for killing most types of cancer cells in humans.

Over the years the news of this discovery, after arousing initial interest and curiosity, has been ignored until the recent appearance of a post blog on the Web stating, “Scientists cure cancer, but no one takes notice,”  which drew attention and spread the news again. This post underlines the fact that major pharmaceutical companies have intentionally ignored the discovery for business reasons.

DCA is a safe and nontoxic drug, it leads cancer cells into self-destruction and consequent death thanks to the activation of apoptosis process by mitochondria, without effecting normal tissues, as it happens instead with patent anti-tumoral drugs produced until now which are focused on glycolysis method.

The reason why pharmaceutical companies are not interested in this “alternative” drug is only business. In fact DCA has no patent, so it can be employed widely and for a cost that is ridiculously low compared to other drugs produced by major drug companies.

“Big Pharma has no interest whatsoever in investing [in DCA research] because there will be no profit,” said Michelakis to Life’s Little Mysteries, a sister site to LiveScience.

Diseases are sources of profit for pharmaceutical companies, which work like any other company, following the logic of business. The sale of drugs that cause many side effects brings the greatest profit. Cancer drugs are the ones which cause the highest number of side effects. Therefore they represent a huge business for drug companies, triggering a mechanism that could be also defined criminal, made by conflicts of interests, cynicism, cruelty and lies.

New generations of alternative methods would largely reduce the profit, for this reason companies don’t invest in research like the DCA one. “If DCA proves to be effective, then it will be a ridiculously cheap drug,” Michelakis said, highlighting the scarce possibilities to make profit on a drug like that.

“Without the promise of a reasonable profit, there is very little incentive for any company to develop new drugs,” explained Omudhome Ogbru, a pharmacologist R&D director at The Medicines Company in New Jersey.

The magazine Forbes classified pharmaceutical industry as the most lucrative of the world at the same level of oil industry. At so high of a business level it is not surprising that the conflicts of interests regulate choices in regards to health and ethics.

Various investigations and revelations have brought to light all the negative sides of the pharmaceutical sector. These include causation of new diseases to sell drugs, spread of epidemics in order to produce and distribute vaccines, reports on false research or falsification of data, censorship on inconvenient facts, and corruption and bribes to politicians, doctors and officials at international level.

This is all an interlacing of relations and a power game of enormous range where human life is worthless and only the money counts. Treat is better than cure for the “world’s health masters”.

I can understand why the pharmaceutical industry wouldn’t necessarily want this exposed for profit reasons but we’re talking about a cure for CANCER! If this was legit it would way overshadow the concerns and interests of the Pharma industry, and one industry alone would not be able to suppress such news.

Plus, there is a millions of other diseases out there, with new ones springing up all the time, so I’m sure cancer drugs alone are far from the Pharma industry’s bread and butter. The industry would comfortably turn a profit without their cancer drugs selling anymore. Plus it doesn’t look good when the article you are linking to here as your source goes to HubPages.com (hardly a reputable source of information) and the page itself is no longer even there! More Pharma industry suppression perhaps? I think more just wishful fantasy thinking

Dca is such an old drug used for other purposes but found to be a great treatment for cancer recently it also cannot be patented. So the pharma companies have no interest in investing 100′s of millions of dollars to have a small return on there investment. It’s a sad business when people’s lives are sacrificed for the sake of making a buck when they could be so easily saved.

…I know a lot of reps who work towards cancer treatments, and oncology pharmacists…this is bollocks as if there was a cure (which had reliable studies to prove it) then a pharma company would invest as it would CURE CANCER AND THUS MAKE MONEY, kicking all other treatments and competition off the marker…so yeah…it must not have a lot of evidence for success if its not been grabbed up.

Lady J, profits depend on competition as well as demand. Even a cancer cure will not be profitable if it isn’t patented/owned by a pharma company. Pharma companies make money by patenting their drugs. When one company owns a drug patent they’re the only company can sell it. With the monopoly they can charge what they want and make huge profits.

Some drugs have no patent (eg. aspirin, DCA as mentioned) so ANY company can make and sell it. With lots of companies selling the same product they have to keep prices low to be competitive, again, a good example is aspirin. It’s cheap as dirt.

A cancer cure will only be profitable for a company if they’re the only ones selling it.

I have to question this article, I’ve had a rare form of lymphoma for 2 years now. I’ve undergone a stem cell (bone marrow) transplant which is a process that “cures” your cancer. So they do try and cure when they can and as soon as possible. Now my transplant ended up failing and the cancer has spred everywhere. But they are going to perform a second transplant in June because it has a chance of working and “curing” me. If they were interested in making money, they would put me through months of expensive chemo treatments designed to maintain my condition, not make it better. And THEN perform the transplant.mthat would maximize profits, but they don’t do that.

Maybe this drug can help, but to call it a “cure” is disingenuous. Especially because there are so many different types of cancer, and offshoot types of those cancers that one drug is in no way going to be a “magic bullet” that cures them all.

That would be a good appraoch if the cancer charities actually were working for a cure. Unfortunately, they are not. I cannot explain their motivation. Perhaps on some level, as organizations they fear having their reason for being undermined. I cannot say. But the evidence over decades is that the big players, such as The American Cancer Society, all the pink ribbon orgs, etc. have actively worked to suppress promising new research, time and time again. They do support new research into new forms of chemo and things like that. But when something that could be a real cure comes along, they are not on the right side. That is a shame.

I may be late on my entry into this thread but I agree 1 trillion percent on the suppression of canceling info. How long many years have private agencies been claiming to doresearch on cancer cures while they take in billions a year in tax free money? EVERY option should be on the table. For those of you who think big Pharma is reality interested in saving you consider this;

Only in the U.S. is DCA BANNED from being produced. This ban was put in place because after testing and proving this possible life saving drug actually does fight and destroy prominate cancer cells while leaving surroung tissue and cells intact, the CDC was made aware of the far reaching economic impact this would have on this country’s pharma markets and industries. A low cost no profit treatment for cancer with no side effects would save lives and destroy earning power.

Please understand, to be a capitalist you must be willing to take advantage of anyone you can. It is now and has always been the American way.

I have heard zero news of this with the exceptiopn that they supposedly had found a cure 5 years ago.
Someone would have published something if any human treatment and curing had happenned since then, right?

It’s actually old news. Check out the documentary Burzynski, Polish biochemist and physician out of Houston, Texas who also found a natural way to cure cancer and was silenced by big cancer companies. You can find the video on Netflix.

We have no idea if or when any of the big pharmaceutical companies will do the right thing and proceed with trials on this. Nor can we depend on the big cancer non-profits like The American Cancer Society. These corporations and unfortuantely even the big non-profits do not seem to be interested in curing cancer. They should be, but they aren’t. We can allow ourselves to become furious about this. But it has done no good i the past and I do not think it will do much good in the future. I say to hell with them. That is certainly where they belong.

So since this is a drug that was developed for other diseases and is presumably still on the market for those diseases, why not those of us who have really bad cancers and who are immenent risk of death, do our own trial. Let’s go get this stuff and try it out. What have we got to lose? If enough of us do this, and if we keep good records of what we are doing and what the results are, we can eventually publish the records. That will be impossible to ignore. Just a thought…

Jeff u need a doctor to prescribe it and if you don’t suffer the illnesses it’s used for….you won’t get it….I have a doctor who suffered severe skin cancer on his scalp….He did chemo…..He did not have access to this drug as he did not have the illness it’s used for.

I honestly do not know if this is what it was cracked up to be. But if there is even a reasonable chance that it could be, it certainly seems worth following up on. Lord knows the conventional approaches to cancer treatment, let alone a cure, have been worse than disappointing. If you really analyze the stats, the supposed “War On Cancer” has been no more successful than the supposed “War On Drugs”. Why am I not surprised!

I lost my mother to cancer last month and I lost my father to cancer in 2003. How is it that we let these pharmaceutical companies determine whether we cure diseases or not. I say inject them all with cancer cells and see how quickly they find the cure. It’s no different then the common cold. They have a cure for it too but it’s not in their better interest to sell it. Not only that but why are we pouring billions of dollars into the Cancer society when they are no more interested in finding a cure then the drug companies are. Shame on them and I will never donate a penny more to the Cancer Society crooks.

There areTHOUSANDS of types of cancer. Concerning as it is that big pharma cant justify to private investors the research into non profitable treatment measures. It amounts to what do expect? DCA is not enough to cure all cancers, can it cure some? perhaps? but then again if its so readily available and unable to be patented, then use it if you have cancer. Why do you need drug companies to tell you what helps if you already know and the evidence is so overwhelming. Not everything is a conspiracy people. What about phoenix tears ? it doenst cure all caner ; my family should know
