City Ranking of Online Flirting Place Athens at Top

Posted by: Lydia Cerrada    Tags:  Athens, Badoo.com, Lonely Planet, Online Flirting    Posted date:  May 20, 2011  |  No comment

A recent research made from the social website Badoo.com has shown that Athens is the first country to lead the list that ranks numbers of online flirt relations per month and user.

Despite the fact that Paris is said to be the city of love, it was placed on the 38 position. And Italy, supposedly the land of the ‘lady-killers’, was placed on the eight position. The second place was handed to Moscow. From a total of nearly 200 cities all over the world, Madrid was the 31, London the 57, Berlin the 79 and New York the 89. Badoo analyzed 12 millions love contacts made in a month by 108 million users chatting in 180 countries.

The ‘Lonely Planet’ guide author in Athens, Victoria Kyriakopoulous, has stated that the results did not surprised her because the Greek capital was a seductive city with a hedonist style life, “Athenians love parties and dance, and flirting is part of their social interaction”.

The writer also added that the online services are just a new way of connecting to substitute the traditional love attraction dance, “old people flirt, married people also do it and youth are just using the new technology to do what Athenians have always done.”

The Badoo average user in Athens does around 25,7 online flirts per month – it is almost the double of users from Rio de Janeiro (12,4), Warsaw (12,1) or Prague (12,6). This is comparatively far from Paris (20,7), London (19), Berlin (17,7) or New York (16,1).

Tunis is among the three Arabian cities along with Kuwait and Beirut, that close the top ten with three ex Soviets cities (Moscow, Kiev and Baku) and three Italians (Turin, Roma and Bari).
