Tamer ElSahy : “Charisma, Empathy and Persistance”

Posted by: Estefania Herrera    Tags:  Intership, iToonari, Social Media, Tamer Elsahy, Toonarians, ToonariPost    Posted date:  June 1, 2011  |  No comment

“The ability to articulate myself and to express myself in a precise way to people”, is something Tamer has always paid attention to. Being one of the first Toonarian’s to join the internship with his charisma and great communicative skills has led him to be a leader in his group. He says, one of his greatest dreams is to become a politician in the future, “an honest one”, and he claims that maybe that is the reason why he tries to communicate really well.

His background combines a mixture of cultures and beliefs. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His mother, being Egyptian, decided to go back to Egypt when he was six years old. As a little kid with an American mentality and habits, he began to grow-up as an Egyptian. When he finished he finished High School at seventeen he decided to follow his dreams, and wanted to start applying himself.

He headed back to the United States, and he found something that he was certain he loved, and that was politics. “I fell in love with politics. I became immersed in politics. The dream of being a politician, usually the lowest common denominator; it’s actually the highest achievement. My hero is Obama. I have been following that guy since day one. If I have a model of how a man should be it would be modeled after Obama.” He says, in following his passion he, Tamer majored in International Relations and Modern History.

I always wanted to reach people, to be able to really move people, to reach the common things that we all have share in life, and to really create something around that. Something people could enjoy and lose themselves in, whether it is a movie, an article, or a Social Media campaign.

Social media is the field he is involved in at Toonari Post, and he always tells his team to “Be bold and don’t be afraid to really show yourselves to our online communities. Recognize the character of Toonari Post, become the philosophy and just be bold and creative in your social media effort, that is the perfect recipe for success. I feel like social media is a crucial tool to reach people if you have something important to say.”

I have this obsession, not just with social media but also with any other medium that allows self-expression and debate. In my line of work, it’s mainly about getting important messages across to people. That can manifests itself politically or in a service I believe in. Kind of like how Toonari Post is a service I believe in that brings important news to people. There is no higher goal for me as a person than to be apart of that. Humans are so busy, but if I can give you entertainment, a break, and help you explore something different or something new, that I think is the highest calling for any human being, that sharing experience among us, to create things, I love that creation of things.

“There is nothing that works with my character more than social media, even for a company selling a brand it’s a chance, or an opportunity to become honest, vulnerable and real with their audience. We can make these companies, a little more freaking human, since they have mostly been so divided from the rest of us, reaching us solely through focus groups. That won’t get the same life force that you get with social media. They are slowly but surely realizing that they have to change as well, they have to be honest, real, vulnerable, so people can actually care enough to follow them.

If you are honest, if you do try, you can create a better company; you can have a better reason to get out of bed and work. People in Social Media will believe in you, if you don’t turn your back and instead maintain your integrity and honesty.

What do you think is the purpose of Toonari Post?

“The purpose is what is being written and published here each and every day. Just seeing all the articles and the issues that we cover here. Important things? Yes! And fun things? yes! It is a place where people can come and get their daily dose of news. It is a human thing to do. Being part of the team and being part of supplying the news is a lot of fun. The team is quite amazing. It’s going to reach a point in the future where we have a very engaged and very large online community.

I fell in love with Toonari, and I don’t want to leave it, it’s like our baby really!
