This was a great pick. Exactly for the reasons you described, Kudos! This kid has a lot of upside because of his athletic gifts and solid fundamentals (defense and shooting form) and from what i've heard he has a pretty good head on his shoulders.

He will get a lot of open shots, especially if he breaks into the starting rotation, as Carmelo and Amare will demand most of the attention. Therefore, it's crucial for him to improve his mid-range jumpshot and three-point shooting. His size will also allow him to pull up over smaller guards, who will most likely play off of him, forcing him to shoot.

BUT, before he starts taking jumpers, he needs to prove that he can run a team and play the point guard position. This will truly define weather or not he will blossom in the NBA.

I wish him the best of luck and give Donnie lots of credit for making the gutsy pick. It would have been easy to give up Landry Fields or Toney Douglas or Bill Walker or some of our other bench guys/supporting role players to move up a few spots in the draft and take Vucevic or maybe even Klay Thomson or Fredette (although those two would have been a stretch) but Donnie stuck to his guns and save the team from stripping the bench and losing key role players.

Guys who the Knicks can also use as trade bait for someone truly worth giving up the "farm" for .....
Chris Paul.

Cheers- Pep pep
