The Most Important Match-fixing Operation in Turkey

Turkish Police was doing technical pursuit very secretly for eight months and at the end of Sunday morning lots of people were arrested to create a crime organization and manage its allegations. One of the most important football clubs Fenerbahçe president Aziz Yıldırım is one of about 30 people arrested in match-fixing inquiry. Raids had taken place simultaneously in 11 cities like İstanbul, İzmir, Ankara, Eskişehir, Sivas and Antalya. Fenerbahçe, Trabzonspor, Beşiktaş and Sivasspor’s headquarters searched.

Sunday morning at 7 A.M Fenerbahçe President Aziz Yıldırım, Fenerbahçe Vice-president Şekip Mosturoğlu, Fenerbahçe’s new footballers Emmanuel Emenike and Sezer Öztürk, Eskişehirspor Technical Director Bülent Uygun, Eskişehirspor Sporty Director and old footballer Ümit Karan, Sivasspor President Mecnun Odyakmaz and footballers it named were Serkan Çalık and Serdar Kulbilge, Giresunspor old President Olgun Peker were arrested firstly. About 45 people were also arrested Monday and Tuesday morning. These people were some football clubs presidents, footballers, journalists and some staff of Turkish Football Federation.


Match-fixing passwords and League Matches

These people talked on the phone with passwords. Field is green means match-fixing will do. On the other hand Trabzonspor tried to do match-fixing but not successful. Fenerbahçe’s last seasons matches between Eskişehirspor and Sivasspor, Trabzonspor’s matches between Eskişehirspor searched and Fenerbahçe gave money some footballers and technical directors from these teams. There were many phone calls on the police technical pursuits.

Giresunspor old President Olgun Peker affect many matches score by force.Tuesday afternoon Turkish Football Federation old President Mahmut Özgener will come to police because he has some phone calls between Olgun Peker.

On the other hand Tuesday afternoon Turkish Football Federation President and some managers went to court office and talked with officers about match-fixing scandal.

 

What happens if the match-fixing allegations are true?

If Fenerbahçe’s match-fixing is true, there are some things to do. First and the most important thing is Fenerbahçe’s last championship will be taken from them. Trabzonspor can be champion. If match-fixing is real, These football teams and people can take important punishments. For example these teams fall into one league lower. People can go to prison between 5 or 12 years. If these people are team’s president, their punishments can increase 50%.

On the other hand, Fenerbahçe is face to face with the danger of losing 28.4 million Turkish Liras from tv broadcast, 15 million liras from its championship and 21 million liras from its success rate. If they will not participate in the Champions League, 15 million liras can go to waste. Fenerbahçe lost value on bourse, too. Fenerbahçe lost about 487 million Türkish Liras on bourse in three days.
