Katy Perry Give Nassau Coliseum A Sugar Rush

Posted by: Bianca Joseph    Tags:  Katy Perry, Nassau Coliseum    Posted date:  July 5, 2011  |  No comment

Katy Perry stopped in Long Island, New York this past Friday at Nassau Coliseum for her California Dreams Tour. The California Dreams Tour is the second worldwide concert tour by American pop singer Katy Perry to promote her latest album Teenage Dream. Katy Perry made sure to not disappoint her fans by giving them a huge showcase and outstanding performance.

Despite the huge size of the coliseum and the enormous crowd Katy still managed to keep it fun and interactive and brought her version of Candy Land to life. The Candy Land scene included “a rainbow-colored staircase with lollipop banisters, three video screens floating above the stage framed by fluffy neon pink clouds.”

Perry’s band dressed in “all-white suits with pastel ties playing in front of a pair of pink, sugar-topped mountains.” Perry successfully makes wearing candy look completely stylish and sexy that even some female crowd members wore their own playful attire: blue wigs ,cupcake bras, Daisy Dukes shorts, and light-up heart headbands.

The show kicked off with an opening act by Swedish pop sensation, Robyn and another guest appearance by the rapper/ dancer Rye Rye. Their performances helped excite the already high energetic crowd. Throughout parts of the show a film played with narratives “about Perry’s travels through Candy Land in pursuit of ‘the baker’s boy,’ and it linked the different songs together.

Perry did fun medley covers of a few songs she called them the playlist for my life right now. The songs included “Only Girl in the World” by Rihanna, “Big Pimpin” by Jay-Z, “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith and Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” She even did her own rendition of Whitney Houston’s 1980s hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”

Though there were plenty of upbeat dance-pop tunes, Katy left a lot of the dancing to her professional backup troupe and showed off her own talent through an amazing vocal performance from start to finish. There didn’t appear to be a single dull or bitter moment in this concert- scene from Candy Land. The show was one colorful and entertaining sweet treat fans will be sure to remember.
