Bond Set at $250,000 for Mother Accused of Murder

A bond of $250,000 has been set for the young mother who was arrested last week for the murder of her twin babies. A judge set the bond for Lindsey Lowe, 25, at Sumner County General Sessions Court. Lowe was pregnant with twin boys and she told police she had kept her pregnancy a secret and gave birth to her twin sons at her family home.

According to court documents, she then killed the twins by smothering their cries so her parents wouldn’t hear them. The incident occurred on the morning of Monday 12th and Lowe was arrested with first degree murder on Wednesday 14th. Lowe reportedly went into labour while on the toilet at her parents home in Hendersonville, a suburb just outside Nashville.

She told police the first baby fell into the toilet and began to cry. Minuets later she gave birth to a second child, who also fell in the toilet. As she had done with the first baby, she put her hand over the baby’s mouth and smouthered him to death, which she said took less time than the first child.

Lowe never checked the sex of the infants. She hid the bodies in a laundry basket in the house. Her father called the police after discovering one of the infants body in the basket. Lowe’s attorney, John Pellegrin, said that Lowe was depressed and she had told her parents that she was ill. He also declared that Lowe has been given medication in jail for her mental state.

Police Lt. Scott Ryan said women with unwanted pregnancies have several options, including a safe haven law that allows newborns to be dropped off at places like hospitals or police stations. He continued “No matter how bleak the outlook may be for you, let someone help you out.”

The Huffington Post reported Ron Lowery, Senior Pastor at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church, said he got a call from Lowe’s parents on Wednesday 14th to come to their home for support during the police investigation. Lowery said “It’s amazing how we somehow have the ability to cope even in life’s worst disasters [...] As to why Lindsey was so desperate to hide the pregnancy, it’s a mystery to everybody.”

The babies appeared to have been brought to full term and weighed roughly 5-6 pounds. Lowe, who works at a pediatric dentist’s office, currently remains in jail and is undergoing a medical evaluation.
