I found it to be an ok article but you did not make it about sandusky. Only Paterno. I am sickened by everyones lack of balls in not doing anything. These are men? Really? What a sad testament to manhood.

Well Alex I guess we are all entitled to our opinions though yours seems backed more by emotions than it does by fact. If you feel so strongly about how bad the media is covering this story than why don’t you get out and do something about it instead of insulting writers over the internet who I’m sure put time and effort into their writing. This article doesn’t blame Paterno, but in fact focus’s on how Paterno failed to do anything and how that will affect the way people view his legacy. It in no way is “screaming for blood as part of a faceless mob” as you so eloquently put it. What you fail to notice is that people aren’t focused on Sandusky because he will stand trial and will get whats coming to him through the court systems. Paterno will not suffer anything legally, unless some new information comes out, but failed morally which is the point of this article if you actually took the time to read it instead of instantly insulting the author on his writing ability.

Wrong. You have fallen into the exact same trap that most of the media has by making this about Paterno and not about the victims or Sandusky. Furthermore, you seem to know this based on the following passage and seem rather unapologetic:

“Failing to really comment, other than saying he was “absolutely devastated” by the case and that his heart went out to the victims, Paterno has made this about the school and football, continuing to do things his way much like he has done for the past 46 years as a larger than life football coach. While Sandusky is the alleged criminal here, and will be punished by law, if found guilty of the 40 counts of felony sex abuse against minors, Paterno is and should be held to a much higher standard though “legally” he did nothing wrong”

Joe Paterno has been exposed as a mere mortal who has fallen from the status of a deity and now that the myth has imploded, everyone feels betrayed and is calling for his head. You only fleetingly mention Sandusky in this article, laying the blame almost entirely at Paterno’s feet, and to be fair, he deserves much of it for a catastrophic moral failure. However, screaming for blood as part of a faceless mob does not make you righteous, and going after Paterno because the headlines sound better if the narrative is about a fallen American sports icon, as opposed to shining a searing spotlight on Sandusky, is not responsible journalism.

Brilliantly written article. I really could not agree more. One of the things that you point out, that I have failed to see from the more mainstream writers {who I swear were all given the same article and told to change one sentence), is the absolute power Joe Paterno exercised over all things Penn State football. He notoriously repudiated his A.D.’s and those “higher” than him. Without a doubt, the only authority Joe Paterno recognized was Joe Paterno.
