Week 12 NFL Power Rankings

Posted by: Jonathan Ellish    Tags:  football schedule, NFL, nfl football schedule, nfl odds, nfl power, nfl rankings, nfl schedule, nfl standings, nfl.com power rankings, power rankings, power rankings 2011, power rankings nfl, Week 12, Week 12 Power Rankings    Posted date:  November 23, 2011  |  No comment

Not much change this week at the top of the rankings as the top four remain the same with the Packers still at number 1. The Ravens saw themselves move up into the 5 spot with the injury to Bears QB Jay Cutler and could move up again with a Thanksgiving showdown against the 49ers.

The Cowboys find themselves in the top 10 this week after another victory and a Giants loss has them atop the NFC East with a game against Miami coming up on Thanksgiving.

The Big winners this week are the Broncos, Eagles, and Dolphins. The Broncos are 4-1 with Tim Tebow under center and after another comeback win to knock off the Jets the Broncos suddenly are contenders in the race for the AFC West and a wild card spot moving them up to 16th from 19th.

The Eagles got a win over the Giants moving them up to 18th from 23rd and giving them a record of 4-6 and giving them an outside shot at still making the playoffs. The Dolphins jumped from 29th to 25th with their third straight win and could jump even higher if they manage the upset against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

This wasn’t a good week for New York teams as it saw all three teams fall in the rankings. The Giants, Jets, and Bills make the list for big losers this week all losing games they should’ve won.

The Giants fell to 12th from 6th after a poor showing against the Eagles left them in 2nd place behind the Cowboys for the AFC East title. The Jets fell from 14th to 17th after Tim Tebow performed his magic beating the Jets late and potentially ending their chances for a Super Bowl and a playoff spot. The Bills got beat down by Miami losing their third straight falling from 17th to 19th and losing their lead rusher Fred Jackson.

Rounding out the bottom of the list again this week are the Panthers, Rams and Colts. The Panthers and Colts play this weekend so look for one of those two teams to move up the rankings next week, but Cam Newton should be too much for the Colts to handle.

Rank (LW) Team Record Comment
1 (1) Packers 10-0 The Packers have a real test when they face the Lions on Thanksgiving.
2 (2) 49ers 9-1 The 49ers have a tough game as the battle of the brothers will commence on Thanksgiving night.
3 (3) Steelers 7-3 Coming out of the bye the Steelers had a chance to rest some key players, Roethlisberger being one of them.
4 (4) Saints 7-3 A bye week, then four of the final six at home. Sounds like a winning formula for the Saints. (Mike Sando ESPN)
5 (7) Ravens 7-3 Jim and John Harbough face off in what could be a preview of the Super Bowl.
6 (5) Bears 7-3 The Bears got a win, but lost their QB Jake Cutler with a broken thumb which could put an end to the Bears playoff chances.
7 (8) Patriots 7-3 New England’s remaining schedule is very easy and the Patriots should coast to home field advantage.
8 (10) Lions 7-3 Matthew Stafford led the Lions back against the Panthers throwing 5 TD’s and looking in prime form to face the Packers.
9 (9) Texans 7-3 The teams fate rests with QB Matt Leinart, but he will benefit from getting WR Andre Johnson back.
10 (12) Cowboys 6-4 Tony Romo has been on fire since getting fully healthy and the Cowboys now sit atop the NFC East.
11 (13) Falcons 6-4 The Falcons look to push for a wild card and to keep pace with New Orleans facing Minnesota and the Texans next.
12 (6) Giants 6-4 The Giants are amidst the roughest part of their schedule and it continues with New Orleans and Green Bay on the horizon.
13(11) Bengals 6-4 Though they’ve lost two straight to the Steelers and Ravens the Bengals have put up good showings and are sitting in a good spot to get a wild card.
14 (15) Raiders 6-4 The Raiders get to see how good the Bears are without Jay Cutler.
15(16) Titans 5-5 The Titans are still in the hunt for a wild card and need to get hot to have a shot.
16 (19) Broncos 5-5 Can’t argue with the results. Tim Tebow is 4-1 since taking over as a starter.
17 (14) Jets 5-5 The Jets have a lot of ground to make up and right now may not even make the playoffs, much less win the Super Bowl.
18 (23) Eagles 4-6 The Eagles have an outside shot due to their 3-1 conference record, but they’re going to need a lot of help.
19 (17) Bills 5-5 The Bills have scored 26 points during this three game losing streak compared to averaging 30 points before hand.
20 (18) Chargers 4-6 If the Chargers want to save their season and make a run it starts with heading to Denver and beating Tim Tebow.
21 (20) Buccaneers 4-6 The Bucs fattened up on NFC West opponents last season, but no such luck in 2011. (Mike Sando ESPN)
22 (21) Chiefs 4-6 Things were tough enough for Kansas City with Matt Cassel, but without him they don’t look like much of a contender.
23 (24) Seahawks 4-6 Seattle got a solid win over St.Louis and is close to getting back to .500
24 (28) Browns 4-6 Good defense has given Cleveland all four of its victories this season. (James Walker ESPN)
25 (29) Dolphins 3-7 The Dolphins might be the hottest team in football right now aside from the Packers and they look to continue playing spoiler with a trip to Dallas on Thanksgiving.
26 (26) Redskins 3-7 The Redskins have lost 6 straight and with Seattle up next might make that 7.
27 (22) Cardinals 3-7 John Skelton proved why he was a backup with a miserable performance against the 49ers.
28 (25) Jaguars 3-7 There is some problems going on internally with the players and coaching staff and Jack Del Rio may be on his way out.
29 (27) Vikings 2-8 Adrian Peterson won’t play this week with no reason to rush his return after suffering a high ankle sprain.
30 (30) Panthers 2-8 Cam Newton is going to have a monster game against the Colts this week.
31 (31) Rams 2-8 The Rams have too many injuries and not enough talent.
32 (32) Colts 0-10 The Colts defense is horrible and with Carolina’s offensive weapons they will probably look bad again this weekend.
