So far, Cimorelli’s achievements include winning the The Jackson 5 Award for Family Music at the Fourth Annual Malibu Music Awards, charting on the Billboard Social 50 and having an audience of 135 million people. The fact that such popularity and success is based solely on a strong YouTube fan base makes Cimorelli a bit of a phenomenon.
Christina, Katherine, Lisa, Amy, Lauren and Dani released their first EP in December 2011 which included the original track “Million Bucks” plus a collection of their signature covers. The six sisters have been covering songs from different artist for years so now it’s time to walk through six of their most popular videos that have made them what they are today.
Ladies and Gentlemen. Here to blow your mind; Cimorelli.
“Rolling In The Deep”
Tackling on the best-selling tune of 2011 isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” might be one of the most challenging songs to cover and yet the Cimorelli girls nailed it back in May 2011. As the original song gained radio airplay throughout the year, Cimorelli’s take on the 8-million seller has wowed over 5 million fans and counting.
It seems like the previous attempts at covering this modern classic by established artists like Nicole Scherzinger or Linkin Park have nothing on the Cimorelli Sisters.
“We Found Love”
Covering the popular anthem can be a fun task but there’s also a serious downside: tons of peers are going to give it a shot! Sitting on more than 2.5 million hits, Cimorelli’s stripped-down cover of “We Found Love” remains one of the highest rated versions of the smash hit, originally performed by Rihanna. Cimorelli once again took a dance record and broke it down with their piano as the only remedy. Their sweet voices make up for a whole orchestra and bring out the beautiful meaning of the lyrics. I’m sure Rihanna would be so proud!
“Best Thing I Never Had”
Doesn’t it blow your mind when someone arranges a well-known pop hit to include a personal flare? Last summer, Cimorelli released their “Best Thing I Never Had” video amidst the frenzy in the wake of Beyonce’s fourth album. This time every Cimorelli member gets to belt out a couple of high notes, Beyonce style, and simply jaw-dropping.
Their personal arrangement of this tune has garnered praise from more than three million viewers that point out these sisters need no backing, auto-tune and pyrotechnics. It is also funny to note how they swapped a specific word in the bridge to make it appropriate for all audiences. Mind you, they may sound like Beyonce but they’re a lot younger!
Besides the stellar vocals, if there is a signature trait that all six sisters share, it is their cheerful attitude. They bring a positive vibe that almost makes you want to jump onto the screen and join them. This is why covering “Skyscraper” by Demi Lovato must have been a total no-brainer.
Being exposed to millions on the internet you have to shield your soul and pay no attention to naysayers, and I’m sure Cimorelli knows how to keep the negative stuff at bay with renditions like this. Cimorelli‘s “Skyscraper” has been watched by more than 5 million fans since last August and just like when they covered “Firework” or “Perfect,” they manage to lift our spirit.
“Price Tag” could be everyone’s jam. British sensation Jessie J., whose manager discovered Cimorelli, put this crazy song out to instant success. The Cimorelli girls weren’t taken aback by having to rap towards the end of the tune. This is not their first time rapping tough, they also did a wonderful job arranging a beautiful version of “How To Love” by iconic rapper Lil’ Wayne. So far, their “Price Tag” has eight million people’s approval who have rushed to click “like” and left nice comments regarding Cimorelli’s mesmerizing talents.
And finally, Cimorelli released their long-awaited first original song. “Million Bucks” was written by Cimorelli and Grammy Award winning producer Neff-U. The song tells us how we don’t need the things money can get us; instead, life is all about finding that someone who makes you feel like a million bucks. Browsing through the comments you’ll find that every fan seems to have a favorite Cimorelli girl. It’s official: girl bands are back this season!
In “Million Bucks,” they gleefully claim they don’t need a thousand people screaming their name or a platinum record up on the wall, but I’m afraid whether they want it or not, they are en route to the top of the charts.
