Hi Erin,

An update for you. The Council of Canadian Academies officially received the shale gas question for assessment in late October 2011. The Council's Board of Governors approved the question in November 2011. Work is now ongoing to assemble a multi-disciplinary panel of experts who will conduct the assessment. The Council has also begun the required research for this project. Unfortunately, the quote you attributed to me for your February post is rather out of date. Information regarding the progress of the assessment will be made available on the Council's website. For those interested in the subject I would suggest signing up for our mailing list. This can be done by visiting www.scienceadvice.ca I hope you will share this updated information with your readers.
Cheers,
