In South East Asia rests one of the most beautiful places that one could visit, the Borneo islands, the third biggest in the world and home to the most beautiful rainforests. Deep inside Borneo lies a city in Sarawak, Malaysia, called Miri, where the Borneo Jazz festival, an event of its own kind, is annually executed to reflect a mysterious blend of Borneo and jazz.

The Borneo Jazz festival is a project based on a green approach; to some, it may be just about music, but for others it is more. The main objective of the festival is to spread the green movement by planting trees on various locations in the city, encourage tourism by attracting music lovers, and develop youth employability by providing internship and volunteer opportunities in the area of event management.

For the 7th year in a row, the festival has been creating an ever growing music scene down at the resort city of Miri, calling up on bands and solo artists with different tastes and cultures every time. Borneo jazz has previously featured one of the biggest names in jazz: Michael Shrive; the world renowned drummer Carlos Santana, who also performed during Woodstock of 1969; John Hammond Junior, the son of John Hammond, the blues master; and James Cotton and his blues band. The festival does not only feature one style or era of jazz music but every year a new wave of creativity is seen in the lineups.

Borneo Jazz 2012 engages people with moving sounds of jazz by world class performers from countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Holland, France, and the United States. This year’s lineup features a unique and modern taste of jazz from renowned performers, such as F.V.E Project, Slixs, Nita Aartsen, New Cool Collective, Tropic Green, Tangora, Koh Mr. Saxman and Takeshi band, and Schalk Joubert and the three continents Sextet:
