Timberland Officially Sponsors Eco-Conscious Summer Festivals

Stratham, U.S.A. – In keeping with its longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship and the celebration of eco-conscious living, Timberland today announced its sponsorship of two sustainable festivals this summer – Mountainfilm in Telluride, CO and Wanderlust in Stratton, VT, Copper Mountain, CO, Squaw Valley, CA and Whistler, British Columbia.

Through the brand’s Fade to Green festival platform, which launched at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, Timberland celebrates the innovation, self expression and style that cultivate creativity.  Much like the arts community, Timberland reaches far beyond commerce to inspire meaningful action around eco-minded practices, effect real change and create a better, more sustainable world.

“These new partnerships with Mountainfilm and Wanderlust provide an exciting opportunity for us to meet and engage with thousands of men and women who share our passion for protecting the outdoors,” said Maile Buker, senior director of marketing for Timberland North America.

“At Timberland we do big and small things everyday to reduce our footprint and be good stewards of the earth.  With our like-minded festival partners, we will celebrate eco-conscious innovation, alongside creativity and style, as we connect with consumers from coast-to-coast to work towards our goal of fostering a more sustainable environment.”

Mountainfilm in Telluride

As the Official Footwear Sponsor of Mountainfilm in Telluride, Colorado (May 25-28), Timberland will outfit filmmakers and other VIPs with footwear from the Timberland, Earthkeepers collection.  Made with recycled and environmentally-conscious materials, such as Green Rubber  outsoles made from 42 percent recycled rubber, leathers sourced from Silver-rated tanneries and PET linings and laces made from recycled plastic bottles, the Earthkeepers collection showcases Timberland’s vast assortment of stylish footwear made with the environment in mind.

Attendees can learn about Timberland’s eco-conscious footwear throughout the festival by visiting the Earthkeepers pop-up kiosk, made from reclaimed and recycled materials, located at the Gondola Plaza on S. Oak Street.  While there, visitors can make a pledge to lessen their impact on the environment by incorporating small changes into their everyday routines, and in return have a tree planted in their honor.  Each tree promised will go above and beyond the five million trees Timberland has already committed to plant over the next five years.

Over the last thirty years, Mountainfilm has demonstrated a commitment to preserving the environment and continuously collaborates with organizations and sponsors with common environmental goals to continue the “green evolution” of the festival.  By switching to hydro-power in 2008, festival organizers reduced their carbon footprint by 100 percent, and as recently as 2011, Mountainfilm eliminated single-use disposable containers from all events for an 80 percent reduction in festival waste.

Wanderlust

As the world’s fastest growing yoga and music festival, Wanderlust is a one of a kind event that creates transformative, mindful experiences set within inspiring natural scenery. Timberland will serve as the Official Greening Partner and Wanderlust Hiking Program Sponsor for the festival phenomenon throughout its cross-country journey, spanning several mountain resort towns this summer including the Stratton Mountain Ski Resort in Vermont (June 21-24); Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado (July 5-8); Squaw Valley in California (July 26-29) and Whistler Resort in British Columbia, Canada, (August 23-26).

Timberland will host a variety of on-site activities at each of the Wanderlust festivals to engage attendees in environmental stewardship.  To explore the connections between nature, yoga and music, Wanderlust will offer a series of 90-minute hikes led by outdoor gurus, charismatic yogis and musicians.  Amidst the scenic views of valley streams and mountain peaks, Timberland aims to inspire consumers to be heroes for nature during these outdoor adventures.  At the Earthkeepers® pop-up kiosk, consumers can also make an environmental pledge to have a tree planted in their honor and learn about the latest eco-minded, stylish footwear from the Earthkeepers® collection.

In an effort further reduce festival waste, a team of 50 Timberland® Earthkeepers® volunteers will be stationed at waste reclamation stations throughout Wanderlust festival grounds to explain the proper separation and disposal of recyclables, waste and compostable materials.  For consumers who favor eco-friendly transportation to the festival, Timberland is also sponsoring the Wanderbus, providing festival-goers with bio-diesel bus transportation between Wanderlust and major cities nearby to offset emissions.  To learn more, visit the Wanderlustfestival.com event sites.
