Washington, U.S.A. — FBR Media and executive producer Frankie Trull announced the world premiere of their made-for-television documentary “Liviya’s Story” on NBC 17 (WNCN) on June 21, 2012, at 11:30 AM EDT. “Liviya’s Story” is the latest episode in FBR Media’s Bench to Bedside TV series. With this distinguished documentary, FBR Media brings to life the story of a North Carolina girl named Liviya, who is battling a rare and potentially fatal blood disease called aplastic anemia, and horses that ultimately come to her rescue.

“My daughter, Liviya, nearly lost her life because of a rare blood disease called aplastic anemia, which is still not completely understood by the medical community,” said Brian Anderson, Raleigh resident and Liviya’s father. “Thanks to a life-saving treatment that was developed with horses, Liviya is alive today.”

This documentary shows a day-in-the-life of Liviya from the hospital to the horse stable. Despite surviving treatment for aplastic anemia, Liviya still has a 50/50 chance of the disease coming back. But bright minds at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and the National Institutes of Health are working around the clock to develop a cure for Liviya and others living with aplastic anemia. In this episode, Liviya and her family experience the graciousness of the Raleigh community, as the American Red Cross and the Carolina Hurricanes ban together to help Liviya fight her devastating illness.

“Liviya’s Story” gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at groundbreaking aplastic anemia research that could one day lead to a cure for Liviya and others living with this rare blood disease. “Liviya’s Story” stars the Anderson family and features Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes, Dr. Neal Young (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute), Dr. Brent Weston (UNC) and the American Red Cross.
