Congrats! Kourtney Kardashian Has New Baby Girl

On July 8, 2012 Kourtney Kardashian and long-time on-again, off-again boyfriend Scott Disick welcomed their second child, Penelope Scotland Disick. Kourtney, 33, and Scott, 29, had their first child, Mason Disick, two years ago.

Kourtney Kardashian stated, “Scott and I are overjoyed to welcome our precious angel Penelope Scotland Disick into our lives. We are forever blessed. Mommy and baby are resting comfortably.”

The pregnancy was announced in November 2011 on the show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” The couple then announced they were having a girl in February 2012. The baby shower, attended by Kim Kardashian and beau Kanye West, was all about pink.

Kim Kardashian wrote on her blog: “Kourtney gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter on Sunday and the whole family is so thrilled to finally meet her! She is absolutely perfect! I am so excited to be an aunt again and can’t wait to spoil little Penelope. I know Mason is going to be the best big brother in the whole world. Congratulations Kourtney and Scott. Xo.”

Kourtney Kardashian opted for the all-natural birth and supposedly had a relatively easy time with the delivery. Little Penelope weighed in at seven pounds, fourteen ounces.

It is unclear whether or not the family will allow the birth to be shown on their show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” Kourtney Kardashian stated on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, “We’re gonna film it again ourselves, and honestly, my experience last time was so peaceful and calm and everything you don’t see in the movies. And I really wanted to share that with people so they knew it doesn’t have to be a crazy screaming session.”

Kourtney has already stopped the K-name trend that has haunted the Kardashian family with her son Mason. The name Mason was thirty-fourth on the list of most popular boy baby names when Kourtney’s son, Mason Disick, was born. The name is now number two in most popular baby boy names.

The name Penelope has only recently become popular thanks to Tina Fey choosing the name for her child and, of course, Penelope Cruz. The name is Greek in origin and goes all the way back to The Odyssey and Odysseus’s tortured wife, Penelope. The name is currently 169th in popularity but has risen significantly since 2001 when it did not even make the top one thousand names.

The Huffington Post speculates that the middle name, Scotland, may be a play on father Scott Disick’s first name.
