London Games Festival 2012 Has Something for All

With just under a month until London Games Festival 2012 kicks off, organiser Ukie has begun to unveil some of the fringe events which will form part of the festivities.

Presented in association with Ukie and The Guardian, the London Games Festival 2012 is set to be the biggest ever celebration of games and gaming culture the capital has ever seen.

Running from September 27, 2012 until October 28 across various locations throughout London, it promises something for everyone, with events for consumers and the games industry spanning the month. The announcements sees the capital welcome videogame karaoke for the very first time, a very special LGF-themed Gamer Disco, and the return of the IGN pub quiz.

  • October 4: One Life Left’s Videogame Karaoke (7:00pm – 11:00pm, Walkabout Temple, Temple Station, Temple Place, London WC2R 2PH) sees the London premiere of the night that has already taken Nottingham and San Francisco by storm. Come sing classic karaoke songs re-written to be about videogames, as Prince’s Purple Rain becomes Heavy Rain, It’s a Sin becomes a tale of murdering Sims, and Lionel Ritchie’s Hello is re-imagined as a song about Master Chief.
  • Gamer Disco will be held on 10th October, at the Book Club (100-106, Leonard Street, EC2A 4RH). Promising DJ sets brimming with chiptune and gaming themes, it’s a chance to dance the night away to some of the medium’s most memorable tunes.
  • On October 11, IGN is bringing its celebrated Pub Quiz to LGF for the very first time. Held at Walkabout, Temple (Temple Station, Temple Place, London WC2R 2PH), the event will crown the biggest know-it-alls of the games industry and community in a night filled with fun, prizes and bragging rights. For more information about taking part in the quiz or donating prizes, please contact Tom Butler at IGN on tbutler@ign.com.

“The festival is really taking shape now,” says event director Kirsty Payne. “Whether you’re young, old, hardcore or casual – or even if you don’t consider yourself a “gamer” at all – London Games Festival has something for you.”

More information on attending each event can be found at the official website, with the confirmed calendar available directly here: http://londongamesfestival.com/calendar.
