The Band You Need to Know: The Well Reds Interview

Posted by: Marci Swank    Tags:  The Well Reds, The Well Reds at UNI, The Well Reds background, The Well Reds band name, The Well Reds current tour, The Well Reds description, The Well Reds future studio plans, The Well Reds in concert, The Well Reds inspiration, The Well Reds main message, The Well Reds music influence, The Well Reds Violet, University of Northern Iowa    Posted date:  September 8, 2012  |  No comment

The Well Reds are a fun, energetic and talented band emerging from Atlanta, Georgia. The band’s stage presence is a full entertaining show that includes their own music, but also a wide variety of covers. Along with their captivating music, their personalities provide the audience with a very personable relationship. They recently released their first album, Violet EP, which is receiving positive and encouraging reviews.

Toonari Post had a chance to attend one of the shows on their current 5-week tour at the University of Northern Iowa’s campus. Jeremy Ezell (vocals, guitar and piano) and Sean Crawford (vocals, lead guitar, keys, and programming/production) answered a couple questions.

Toonari Post (TP): Your website states: “The Well Reds : ðə wěl rɛdz –noun 1. from “The Mean Reds” as used by Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s to describe a state of being or becoming afraid, the cause of which is unknown.” Is this the only meaning behind it or do you have anything you want to elaborate on about your band’s name?

Jeremy Ezell (JE ): Really, it says the band name is from Breakfast at Tiffany’s but really it was just something that sounded fun and light.  We had a few other names picked out but this name seemed to fit our band best. Either reason works.

TP: For new fans, how do you personally describe your type of music?

JE: We are best described as pop rock. We enjoy playing love songs, ballads, and enjoy creating long choruses within our songs. If you like The Killers, OneRepublic, and The Script, that’s the type of music we play.

TP: Is there a certain message you are trying to share with your fans and audience? Anything specific that you want to share?

JE: We want to encourage people to be optimistic. You know, keep your head up. We want to share that things aren’t always as bad as they seem. You don’t need to approach people based on who they are, but based on who you are.

TP: Fans always want to know. What music or bands have inspired you?

JE: There are so many different inspirations for each of us in the band. Personally, classical music and Phil Collins are my inspiration.

TP: This may be a trick question, but what is your favorite part about being in the band?

Sean Crawford  (SC): Although I don’t really know if I have found my absolute favorite part, I would have to say my favorite part so far is meeting new people; getting out and meeting fans and everything.

Violet was produced by Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (Cartel, Mayday Parade, The All Time Low), includes six great tracks and is currently on sale. Make sure to check their upcoming tour dates to hear these songs as well as other favorites of theirs.
