Getting New Books & Educational Resources Just Got Easier

Posted by: TP Newswire    Tags:  First Book Canada, first book marketplace, get books online, get free books, literary marketplace book, marketplace books, the books, the marketplace book    Posted date:  October 6, 2012  |  No comment

Toronto, Canada — On October 3, First Book Canada launched its latest innovation for getting new books and educational resources into the hands of children in need: The First Book Canada Marketplace. This online resource centre offers brand new, high quality children’s and young adult books at low cost, exclusively to schools and programs serving children in low-income communities.

Breaking down barriers to book ownership, First Book Canada improves access to new books for children in need, significantly impacting the quality of their education.

First Book Canada addresses one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books.  Working with publishing partners, an ever expanding network of volunteers and book recipient groups, First Book Canada provides educators and community program leaders in high-need communities with unprecedented access to free and low-cost books. Since 2009, First Book Canada has distributed more than 500,000 new books to Canadian children in need through large-scale donations by its publishing partners.

The First Book Canada Marketplace that goes live today gives educators in high-need communities access to an astonishing array of new, high-quality books at prices 50% to 90% below retail. Included in the price are all shipping and handling costs. Using the same award-winning social enterprise model developed by First Book in the United States, the First Book Canada Marketplace offers more than 2,000 titles including works from some of Canada’s best loved authors. Book recipient groups that sign up with First Book Canada will now have access to many classics as well as books used in school curriculums at deeply discounted prices.

The First Book Canada Marketplace will offer children in need access to more and better books, helping to open worlds of possibilities for them. “We believe that when a child holds a book and experiences the joy a story brings, it will awaken a passion for learning that delivers on the promise of a better life,” statesTom Best, Executive Director. Schools and community-based programs registered with First Book Canada can rely on a steady stream of new books for the children they serve, thanks, in large part, to the many publishing partners working with First Book Canada to ensure that books are a part of every child’s life.
