Rap might sound a little out of the norm for a Christian genre, but the rappers of 116 Clique prove it is a perfect fit. The Clique is full of passion, talent, and inspiring life stories. Toonari Post recently had an opportunity to attend a show on their Unashamed Tour 2012: Come Alive in Kansas City, MO on November 17.
116 (pronounced 1-1-6) Clique consists of Lecrae, Trip Lee, KB, Andy Mineo, Derek Minor, and Tadashii who are all signed to Reach Records. The show also featured an opening act named Thisl. The national tour titled the Unashamed Tour 2012 finished on November 18 in Memphis, TN. The tour consisted of 30 shows in major cities around the United States, selling out at most of the dates.
The show in Kansas City was a solid three-hour show that allowed each artist to take the stage individually, while performing collaborations with others, and finally having all six of the rappers taking the stage together.
Whether it was Thisl opening up the show, or the whole Clique ending the show, there was never a dull moment. The guys were able to keep the energy going throughout the night, both through music as well as through their message. Making a point to remind the crowd of their message and of the real reason for them being there: Romans 1:16.
The musicians all have new music either showcased, or soon to be released, so the performance was able to cover their hits from the past, as well as the future. The music consisted of heavy beats, brilliant flow, and intense lyrics.
Lecrae has been on the music scene since 2004, and is the co-founder of Reach Records, allowing him the opportunity to make his own music while mentoring other rappers. He has been nominated and won multiple awards for his work since his debut album while climbing the music charts.
Trip Lee hit the scene at the early age of 12, which allowed him to release his first CD right after he graduated from high school. He now has broken into the top of the charts for his genre and released his first book while also touring and going to seminary.
KB, Andy Mineo, and Derek Minor have just as impressive track record behind them. But the six of the guys are not even close to a point of slowing down. Reach Records will continue to have various tour dates throughout the next few months, while also holding conferences and other live opportunities for their fans.
