Hotwire.com Reveals Top Ten Destinations For Canadians

San Francisco, U.S.A. — On December 11, Hotwire.com, a discount travel site, announced the top ten destinations where Canadians are vacationing this holiday season. Travellers seem to be taking advantage of the strong CAD when visiting U.S. warm weather cities like Las Vegas and Orlando, which have gained popularity since last year. However, big domestic cities like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver also remain an attraction.

Toronto rose from third in 2011 to take the top spot this year, while Las Vegas (sixth last year) and Orlando (fourth last year) rose to push New York and Montreal down to numbers four and five, respectively. Seattle, a popular border city, rose from ninth to sixth this year, while Vancouver held at seventh place followed by Miami, San Francisco and San Diego. The two newcomers to the list, Miami and San Diego, not only boast fantastic deals this season, but also offer warm weather and clear skies for those looking to ditch the earmuffs for a little sun.

“Based on what we’re seeing, we believe travellers are feeling more comfortable getting away during the holidays to enjoy the season’s festivities in fun U.S. destinations like Las Vegas, New York, and Orlando,” said Pierre-Eitienne Chartier, vice president of the Hotwire Group. “This is no surprise considering the current strength of the dollar and the appeal of a winter break.  It also helps that many top destinations see a falloff in demand during big family holidays, which means vacationers can find deep price reductions on discount travel sites like Hotwire.com.”

The 10 most popular holiday destinations for Canadian travellers by hotel bookings, along with average nightly prices for each are as follows:

Rank City Average Nightly Rate on Hotwire
1. Toronto, Ontario, Canada $79
2. Las Vegas, Nevada $82
3. Orlando, Florida $63
4. New York City, New York $200
5. Montreal, Quebec, Canada $93
6. Seattle, Washington $84
7. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada $76
8. Miami, Florida $162
9. San Francisco, California $98
10. San Diego, California $62

The 10 most popular holiday destinations for Canadian travellers and average prices are based on hotel bookings made on Hotwire.com between October 1 and November 14, 2012 for travel between December 23, 2012 and December 28, 2012.
