Sarawak’s Miri has grown to be a great destination for jazz enthusiasts since the inaugural edition of Borneo Jazz in 2005. The eighth edition of this festival is set to take place at the Parkcity Everly Hotel on May 10 and 11 this year. Borneo Jazz 2013 is a must see event for all jazz fans, where they can enjoy an enchanting fusion of music and adventure.

This year’s music lineup will feature eight magnificent bands: Mo’Blow from Germany, Hazmat Modine from the United States, Jump4Joy from Sweden, West Jazz Band from Malaysia, the Nylons from Canada, the Asian Jazz Allstars Power Quartet from Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Thailand, Lisa Young Quartet from Australia, and Scott Martin Latin Soul band from the United States.

Borneo Jazz has grown steadily from 3,000 spectators eight years ago to over 8,000 last year. This development is a reflection of the successful planning and promotion by the Sarawak Tourism Board over the years, and an indication of the growing appeal of jazz music in the region. Currently, the event organizers are collaborating to design travel packages that will allow local and international visitors to attend the festival and explore tourism sites within Miri and its surrounding destinations at the same time.

Since Miri is in Borneo, it has much more to offer than just great music. The Boneo Jazz festival is an amazing opportunity for jazz lovers to combine their travel plans with their passion for great music. Borneo, located just north of Australia, is the third largest island in the world, divided between three countries: Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Miri is surrounded by four world-class national parks: Mount Mulu National Park, Niah National Park, Lambir Hills National Park, and Loagan Bunut National Park, a popular destination for eco-tourism.

Borneo Jazz has been engaging people with international music by world class performers ever since its inaugural ceremony in 2005. The festival’s show times are as follows:

7:30 – 8:30 pm    West Jazz Band
8:45 – 9:45 pm    Lisa Young Quartet
