‘Blade Runner’ star, Sean Young, returns with a bang in her new comeback movie ‘Send No Flowers’. Young played leading roles in several Hollywood blockbuster movies throughout the 80s and 90s, including, ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’, ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘No Way Out’.
After taking a career break, she is ready to burst back into the spotlight in the new mafia revenge film by director Fred Carpenter. Young is proving that she has recovered from the negative media hype around her person over past years and she can, yet again, conquer the role of a strong female lead, a role she plays best.
Written by Lee Kolinsky and Michael Lovaglio, ‘Send No Flowers’ follows Toni (Young), who runs the city on behalf of her aging, mafia-affiliated father Anthony, played by renowned actor, Tony Lo Bianco (‘French Connection’, ‘The Juror’, ‘The Seven Ups’, ‘Kill the Irishman’). After Anthony is gunned down, Toni must join forces with her estranged sister to maintain control of the family before a hostile takeover that threatens to ruin their lives.
“’Send No Flowers’ is really a story about two sisters Toni and Ava,” said co-writer Lee Kolinsky to The Toonari Post. “It’s about their relationship and how a family of crime and has affected it.”
The story explores Toni and Ava’s views of their father and his lifestyle. Toni is attracted to the criminal aspect and wants the power, while Ava is blinded by the wealth. It also investigates the greed and jealousy of the rival crime family. “This isn’t just a regular mob movie”, explained co-writer Michael A. Lovaglio to us. “It’s told like a Shakespearean play. It’s a drama surrounded by action.”
‘Send No Flowers’ also stars Gianni Russo (‘The Godfather’, ‘Rush Hour’), Robert Clohessy (“Blue Bloods,” “Boardwalk Empire”), Donna DeCianni (‘The Blue Lizard’, ‘Eddie Monroe’) and Russ Carmada (‘The Night Never Sleeps’, ‘Night for Day’, ‘The Video Guys’).
“We hope this movie does for Sean Young what ‘Pulp Fiction’ did for John Travolta,” Director Fred Carpenter said. “She [Young] is giving, caring and one of the best, if not the best actor I ever worked with. This is the best film shoot I ever had.”
In addition to Young and Lo Bianco, Jackie Martling (“Howard Stern Show”) stars as a seedy underworld club-owner in the independent movie.
“What a total joy to have been among the great cast and crew of ‘Send No Flowers’,” said Martling. “Working with the beautiful icon Sean Young was such a great experience, and director Fred Carpenter is so warm and precise at the same time that it couldn’t have been better.”
In addition to the ensemble cast, ‘Send No Flowers’ is being co-produced by Michael J. Arbouet (‘Cross the Line’, ‘How to Grow a Fig Tree’).
“Every time I work on a movie, its magic and the cast and crew of this film fit so well together,” Arbouet told The Toonari Post. “It’s like working with your best friend.”
“If I’m excited about it, I’m pretty sure the audience is going to enjoy it.”
The film has been nominated for six Long Island International Film Expo (LIFE) awards where it will be premiering on July 19, 2013.
