After enduring six years of cancer, YouTube sensation Talia Joy Castellano has lost her battle with the disease.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22am,” her facebook fan page read. “Please lift her beautiful soul, her beautiful light to heaven and please send your love and prayers to her family during this most difficult time. God speed little one, may you be free from pain and suffering, may your soul feel the light and love that you brought to so many of us on this Earth during the short time you were here with us. We will miss you more than you will ever know, baby girl.”
In the time since the message was posted there has been an outpour of support and prayers for Castellano’s family.
Facebook user, Calitchi Melendez, commented that “Talia had a purpose and she has gracefully completed her tasks! I pray to the God Almighty, to cover her family with peace and strength in this time! That she is only gone for a little while, since they will see each other again. I pray that they find comfort in the millions of prayers going their way. And I pray that we all remember her and that we, some day soon, find a cure! Thank you Talia for being you! For being a miracle and for being an inspiration to me and so many more! God Bless you always!”
Ellen DeGeneres, who invited Castellano to her talk show late last year, took to twitter to say “this year I met a very special girl, and today we lost her. Sending my heart to Talia’s family. I’m so sad.”
Additionally, many of Castellano’s fellow YouTube gurus also paid their condolences to the young warrior.
“You were such an inspiration to many while you were here on earth,” Missy Lynn shared via Instagram. “And you will forever be an inspiration! You will forever be in my heart and will always be remembered! I’m glad I got to meet you in person my love! May your soul rest in peace! It’s gonna be a party up in heaven! You’re one cool angel girlfriend!”
DulceCandy87 also updated her Instagram with a vibrant photo of the young lady with the caption, “rest in peace sweet little angel. We all miss you.”
Hailing from Orlando, Florida, the inspiring 13-year-old captured the hearts of millions with her upbeat personality and informative, yet quirky, make-up tutorials. At age seven she had been diagnosed with stage-four neuroblastoma. In 2012 she was diagnosed with leukemia. Though it would have been understandable for her to adopt a negative attitude due to her circumstance, throughout her battle Castallano remained positive. She even went so far as to call her cancer journey “amazing” although she also acknowledged that it was a horrible existence that no child should have to live.
Many in her situation would have jumped at an opportunity to be cured of these painful diseases; however, Castallano had grown tired and, some would suggest, made peace with her inevitable fate. In 2012 she revealed in a video that she was considering not accepting a potentially life-saving bone marrow transplant. Due to the probability of death, as well as the possibility that her body would reject the treatment, she preferred to “just live the time I have remaining.”
Doctors warned her that she would only have four months to one year of life left if she rejected the bone marrow transplant; however, Castallano forged onward seeing many of her dreams come true. In addition to meeting Ellen DeGeneres, Castallano became an honorary Cover Girl spokes model and had began working on a clothing line aptly titled “That Bald Chick.”
