January is upon us and though the month is filled with resolutions and plans for new beginnings, when it comes to gaming, there is not a lot of news awaiting us. But for starters, the top best sellers of the holiday season were “Call of Duty: Ghosts”, “Grand Theft Auto 5”, and “Just Dance 2014.”
(1/28/Tuesday) Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
“Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition” is the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One port of the popular “Tomb Raider” developed by Crystal Dynamics. Includes all the DLC, including the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, six different outfits for Lara, a digital mini art book, and the digital comic “The Beginning”. The graphics have also been updated so that the player can see every bead of sweat, strand of hair, and every stitch in clothing.
(1/14/Tuesday) The Banner Saga (PC)
(1/23/Thursday) Might & Magic X: Legacy (PC)
“The Banner Saga” is a Viking-themed tactical role-playing game developed by Stoic. Players will be able to build up a party of characters with complementing abilities as well as build relationships that will change the outcome of the story. Instead of focusing on one hero’s story the story will focus on the player’s entire caravan and the city will change as the story unfolds. The game also pushes players to accept and deal with the consequences of any defeats they have throughout the playthrough. The game consists of primarily hand-drawn animation for characters, sequences, and backgrounds.
“Might & Magic X: Legacy” is the latest installment of the Might & Magic series that will follow the events of “Might & Magic Heroes VI” and is developed by Limbic Entertainment. The players have the ability to create characters from four different races (Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, and Humans) and twelve classes. This game’s world will be even bigger than the world of “Might & Magic IV”. However, there will not be science fiction elements like in previous games in the series. The game will also feature a modding kit that will allow the player to create and modify content in the game.
(1/28/Tuesday) Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita)
“Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z” is a fighting game based on the manga and anime franchise “Dragon Ball” and is developed by Artdink. This game allows eight players to battle against one another with graphics similar to “Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale”. The gameplay allows the player to be successful in high-speed battles on the ground and in the air. In team battles teammates share an energy meter called GENKI Gauge which they can choose to share or use for themselves. It also has four-player cooperative play that allows players to perform attacks together and heal one another. The game features over 70 characters. However, there is a system within the game that allows the player to modify characters using ability/ customization cards. By collecting and equipping cards characters can boost characters so that they are more capable in battle.
