The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Cary, U.S.A – Epic Games and The Astronauts, the new independent games studio founded by Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki, announce a long-term Unreal Engine licensing agreement. Under the deal terms, The Astronauts have the rights to develop multiple games using the latest Unreal Engine technology. The team is creating its debut title, an unannounced game due for release in 2013, with Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 (UE3).

“We’ve worked with UE3 for the last six years, and we know its power,” said Adrian Chmielarz, co-founder of The Astronauts. “Choosing Unreal Engine technology for our future was the textbook definition of a no-brainer. We are on a quest to map uncharted waters, and Epic’s tech provides the stability required for success.”

“We’re truly impressed with what high-quality games small, independent teams are creating using the Unreal Engine,” said Mike Gamble, European territory manager of Epic. “The best is yet to come, and there’s a good chance that The Astronauts will be one of those teams that makes us say ‘Wow.’”

The Astronauts aim to createhigh-quality game experiences focused on imaginative visuals and rich story-telling, with gameplay designed to challenge industry conventions. Its founding members have more than 50 years of collective experience developing games together, including hits such as “Painkiller” and “Bulletstorm.” For more information, visit http://www.theastronauts.com and follow @TheAstroCrew on Twitter.

Developed by Epic Games, the award-winning Unreal Engine is known for its cutting-edge graphics, best-of-breed toolset and scalability across major platforms. Operating on nine platforms, including PC, consoles and mobile devices, Unreal Engine 3 is designed to accelerate developers’ productivity for creating high-quality games, applications, training simulations, 3D visualizations, digital films and animated entertainment.

Established in 1991, Epic Games develops cutting-edge games and cross-platform game engine technology. The company is responsible for the bestselling “Unreal” series of games, the blockbuster “Gears of War” franchise and the groundbreaking “Infinity Blade” line of mobile games. Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine technology has won dozens of awards and is available for licensing. Epic is continually recruiting top talent for its studios located in North Carolina, Washington, Utah, Maryland, Poland, Korea and Japan.
