Washington, U.S.A. — According to a new U.S. extraterrestrial survey from National Geographic Channel (NGC), more than 80 million Americans are certain that UFOs exist. In fact, many believe in tangible proof that aliens have landed on Earth and think that government officials are involved in covering up paranormal activities. Moreover, most citizens would not mind a minor alien invasion, because they expect these space-age visitors to be friendly—like the lovable character depicted in Steven Spielberg’s popular film “E.T.”

Survey results also reveal that more than one-third (36%) of Americans believe UFOs exist. More than one in 10 (11%) are confident that they have spotted a UFO, and one in five (20%) know someone who claims to have seen one.

Despite the popularity of “Avengers” and “Twilight,” more than seven in 10 (71%) Americans think that aliens are more likely to exist than are superheroes, vampires and zombies. Furthermore, if aliens attacked our planet, more than one in five (21%) would most likely call on the Hulk to deal with the havoc. Far fewer would most trust Batman (12%) or Spiderman (8%) to step in.

In regards to national security, nearly two-thirds (65%) of Americans think Barack Obama would be better suited than fellow presidential candidate Mitt Romney to handle an alien invasion. In fact, more than two in three (68%) women say that Obama would be more adept at dealing with an alien invasion than Romney, vs. 61 percent of men. And more younger citizens, ages 18 to 64 years, than those aged 65+ (68% vs. 50%) think Romney would not be as well-suited as Obama to handle an alien invasion.

Tech Supervisor Erin Ryder and UFOlogist James Fox from NGC’s new series “Chasing UFOs,” believe the survey results are in line with the interviews and research they found in field operations taping the show. Viewers who watch the series’ back-to-back premieres on Friday, June 29, at 9 & 10 PM ET/PT, will witness over 30 Texas residents who swear they saw an unidentified flying object in 2008 and Colorado towns folk share their encounters with the team about speeding saucers and green lights that often are spotted in the night sky.

NatGeo’s “Aliens Among Us” survey polled a random nationwide sample of 1,114 Americans, May 21-29, 2012. The poll was conducted by Kelton Research, which used e-mail invitations and online surveys. Quotas were set to ensure reliable and accurate representation of the total U.S. population, ages 18 and older. The margin of error is +/-2.9 percent.

Sir Ridley Scott, the renowned filmmaker who reinvented the science fiction film genre – having helmed ‘Alien’, a groundbreaking mix of science fiction and horror, followed by ‘Blade Runner’, one of the most revered and influential genre films of our time – offers his signature brand of action, thrills, scares, and much, much more, when ‘Prometheus’ is unleashed in theaters worldwide this June.

With ‘Prometheus’, Scott has created a new mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey, aboard the spaceship Prometheus, to the darkest corners of the universe. Although he has not helmed a science fiction picture in three decades, Ridley Scott’s interest in the genre never abated. Having made two of the most revered genre films of all time, his return would only be triggered by a truly grand idea. “Over the past few decades, we’ve been ‘action filmed-out’ and ‘monster filmed-out’ and almost ‘science fiction filmed-out,” says Scott. “So the baseline question is: how original are you going to be?”

“The reason I haven’t made another sci-fi film in so many years, apart from the fact I’ve been busy making other films and exploring different genres, is because frankly I haven’t come across anything worthwhile for me to do with enough truth, originality and strength. Prometheus has all three.”

The notion for Prometheus began with a figure glimpsed only briefly in ‘Alien’, and which seemed to be forgotten once the titular xenomorph burst, literally, onto the scene. But that mysterious being – a giant fossilized creature with a burst-open chest, which came to be known as the Space Jockey – was well remembered by the man who brought it to life.

“Something that had stayed with me ever since Alien, was the mystery behind it,” says Scott. Who was he? Where was he from? What was his mission? What kind of technology would his kind possess? I thought those questions could provide a springboard for even larger ideas.”

So, yes, Prometheus began life years ago as an Alien prequel before evolving, as Scott puts it, “into another universe.” The film is engaged and defined by new ideas and questions that captured the filmmaker’s formidable imagination. Notes Scott: “Out of the creative process in developing the picture emerged a new, grand mythology, in which this original story takes place.

The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, far-reaching and provocative. Prometheus is the singular genre tale I’d been searching for.”

The Drake equation is a probability law which estimates the abundance of intelligent life in our Galaxy, the Milky Way. It is quite simple in appearance, and anyone can play with the variables in order to make their own personal estimate.

The variables encountered in the equation include the proportion of intelligent to non-intelligent life; the proportion of stars which would be capable of sustaining life in their environment to those who cannot; the number of planets a star is probable to have existing in this habitable zone, if the star were to harbour planets.

Although the scientific results of this equation are in great debate, it was developed by Prof. Frank Drake in order to open discussion on the topic for the famous meeting at the Green Bank radio observatory in 1961.

Current estimates ranging from the opinions of pessimists to optimists, are of the order of it being next to impossible to communicate with other lifeforms in our Galaxy, to a possible ten different alien civilisations who are currently in the same positions as us with appropiate technology who could be trying to communicate with us and others like us.

Hence the popularity of the SETI project (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). The equation brings many interesting topics to light such as how long intelligent civilisations may continue on living, with most estimates being of short duration. One hypothesise is that once nuclear power is developed by a civilisation, they will quickly destroy themselves through their new technology.

To date there have been 684 confirmed planets discovered orbiting a total number of 474 stars other than our Sun. With thousands more proposed from the Kepler mission awaiting comfirmation. More recently the Kepler mission has discovered the first planet known to be orbiting two stars.

The techniques involved in detecting these extra-solar (i.e. orbiting other stars than our Sun) objects favor the discovery of larger, more massive planets which have a more visible influence on their parent star. The techniques follow principles as simple as; does the parent star wobble?

If so, by how much and then knowing the distance to the parent star we can calculate the mass of the orbiting planet and orbital period, which in turn would give us the distance between the parent star and planet, using Kepler’s third law. This technique follows the principles of astrometry (basically astronomical geometry).

Then from analyzing the richness of the chemical environment of such systems through spectroscopy it is possible to say if at least one component of this system would be capable of sustaining life. Unfortunately, due to the large number of complexities which arise in the observational and analysis stages no one can say for sure if these planets are currently harbours of life.

However, all is not lost as we know already that our solar system contains life on a small out of the way planet amicably called Earth. So would it be possible for other lumps of rock in our Galaxy to host complex biological species? It is of popular opinion that yes, it is possible but due to the harsh environments in which they may exist they may not of had the possibility to evolve beyond microbial stages of evolution.

For example, if we ignore Mars for a minute and concentrate on the more probable hosts, the Gaililean satelites orbiting our local failed star Jupiter or Saturn’s Titan are good bets. It was initially thought that light was a neccessary ingredient for life to come into being. That was until the discovery of strange looking creatures living in the depths of our deepest darkest oceans close to hydrothermal vents.

This would lead a reasonable mind to believe that Europa, Ganymede or Titan may be hosts to such creatures thanks to their water ice crusts encasing their volcanic prone H2O oceans. How could we detect such life? Well as we know from studies of biological creatures back home we create a chemical diversity in our atmosphere which wouldn’t exist if we did not.

So we could look for gases such as methane trapped in ice crystals such as Clathrate Hydrates on the surface of these near by objects, with techniques such as infra-red reflection spectroscopy.

An exo-planet nicknamed ‘Snow White’ has been found to have a partially water ice surface with a possible light methane atmosphere. So in conclusion, no life has been currently detected aside from on planet Earth and it will prove difficult to find, but, we are off to a good start.

February’s Super Bowl featured the first sneak-peak into director Jon Favreau’s upcoming fantasy embarkment Cowboys and Aliens – an eclectic mix of conventional western and uhm… extra terrestrials?

Admittedly, when I first read that Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig were strapping on their hats and boots to fight an alien invasion on horseback – even I shook my head in disbelief. Had Hollywood really hit rock-bottom of ideas this time? Were there no remakes left to soak their creative dry-spell?

Of course, that was before I learned that ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ was in fact a successful graphic novel from Platinum Studios, controllers of the largest independent license library of comic book characters, created by the Studio’s founder Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and published in 2006. The unconventional genre-clash gained so much attention that Universal Studios and DreamWorks soon got their hands on it and next month, movie audiences will get to explore the result. It is considered the dark horse this season – “the true wild card among the summer 2011 popcorn films – a gritty cowboy tale that just happens to be interrupted by an alien invasion flick,” writes herocomplex.latimes.com.

Blockbuster filmmaker Jon Favreau has purposely put together, along with producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer and executive producer Steven Spielberg (there he is again!), this hybrid cowboy tale in such way to avoid the obvious entrapment of comedy or camp – all considering the ‘on-the-nose’ title. According to herocomplex.latimes.com, much effort was put into the screenplay so to make the story a western first, a sci-fi second. Speaking about the universe of the movie; “The audience knows what [the aliens] are after years of Spielberg movies but the guys on the horses in the movie have no words for what they’re seeing,” explains Roberto Orci, one of the writers and producers.

The cross-franchise action has Daniel Craig starring as the stranger who stumbles into the town of Absolution with no memory of his past but with a mysterious shackle on his wrist.  Little does he know that the city is held in an iron fist by Harrison Ford’s Colonel Dolarhyde who’s cruel reign leaves no room for strangers. However, the tale of dust and true grit is abruptly interrupted when scarcely comprehensible objects attack the desolate city from the sky and abduct the stunned and helpless. Soon the hard-eyed stranger is the small town’s only hope for salvation.

Also starring is Olivia Wilde, Paul Dano and the charismatic Sam Rockwell. But it’s Ford’s turn as Absolution’s menacing Colonel which is drawing most attention in the cast, and according to an interview with the icon himself: “Ford seemed as surprised as anyone by the fact that he hadn’t starred in a cowboy movie since Jimmy Carter was in the White House.”

“For years, I’ve thought the western – as a genre – needed this guy,” said Ron Howard. “Harrison has this persona that fits the western. In a way he was a cowboy in ‘[American] Grafitti’ and ‘Star Wars’ and when you see him on screen in this setting it just feels right.”

With expectations heightening each week for phenomenal visual effects and competent acting, the ultimate clash of universes is bound to keep cine-fanatics on their toes. And think about it – is the idea that far-fetched after all? Plenty of time to make up your mind before July 29.

Iran is claiming that that they have built the world’s first “flying saucer”, according to the official state-run Iranian news agency.  The news agency asserted that the craft was unveiled to Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamene in a special ceremony last month.  The unmanned craft is intended largely for aerial imaging.

The saucer, named ‘Zohal’, which translates to Saturn in Persian, is part of a “new generation of vertical flyers,” according to the Daily mail.  The original news release stated described the flying saucer in more detail.  The release read in part:

Zohal, designed and developed jointly by Farnas Aerospace Company and Iranian Aviation and Space Industries Association (IASIA), can be used for various missions, specially for aerial imaging.

The flying machine is equipped with an auto-pilot system, GPS (Global Positioning System) and two separate imaging systems with full HD 10 mega-pixel picture quality and is able to take and send images simultaneously.

Zohal uses a small, portable navigation and monitoring center for transmission of data and images and can fly in both outdoor and indoor spaces.

Not everyone is a believer, however.  A picture that accompanied the press release may not actually be a picture of the machine. Another press release by the Iranian Students’ News Agency may be a more accurate depiction of the craft.

“It is equipped with autopilot, image stabilizer and GPS and has a separate system for aerial recording with FULL HD quality as well as another system for aerial photography with 10 megapixel capability which can be sent and recorded simultaneously. The machine involves a small and portable land station with the monitoring capability and is able to fly indoors and outdoors,” according to the students’ press release.  “Easy transportation and launch and flying with less making noise are some of the advantages of the device. “

A new study by the scientists at NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA suggests that our galaxy may be more crowded than once thought.  The study discovered that one out of every 37 to one out of every 70 sun-like stars may have an Earth-like planet in its orbit, according to Space.com. These planets are at a position that liquid water could exist on the planet’s surface, according to the researchers.

These new calculations are based on data collected by the Kepler space telescope, which shocked the world in February by revealing 1,200 possible alien worlds, 68 of which were about the size of Earth. The spacecraft does so by looking for the dimming that occurs when a world transits or moves in front of a star.

What does the new data mean exactly?  “This means there are a lot of Earth analogs out there — two billion in the Milky Way galaxy,” researcher Joseph Catanzarite, an astronomer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, told SPACE.com. “With that large a number, there’s a good chance life and maybe even intelligent life might exist on some of those planets. And that’s just our galaxy alone — there are 50 billion other galaxies.”

There could be billions of Earth-like planets just in the Milky Way Galaxy and that means that the likelihood of other life form is also greater.  After the researchers analyzed the four months of data in this initial batch of readings from Kepler, they determined that 1.4 to 2.7 percent of all sunlike stars are expected to have Earthlike planets — ones that are between 0.8 and two times Earth’s diameter and within the habitable zones of their stars.

There may be more life out there in these other galaxies.  The same scientists predict that about 12 Earth-like worlds will be discovered after three to four years of Kepler data is analyzed, according to Space.com. Four have already been seen just in the few months of data already released.  Kepler mission scientists have estimated that, altogether, there could be 50 billion planets in the Milky Way, though not all would be Earth-size worlds within the habitable zone of their local stars.

Honorable Paul Hellyer, a former deputy prime minister of Canada and the longest serving current member of the Queen’s Privy Council, which is made up of “prominent Canadians appointed to advise the queen on issues of importance to the country,” has been an outspoken believer of UFOs.

Speaking to AOL News, he says he is sure other life form exists. “Oh, I’m absolutely convinced of it. These things were not invented here. And I think people have to get accustomed to this new reality,” Hellyer said.  “We lived too long in a sense of isolation, thinking that Earth was the center of the cosmos, that we were the only species and, therefore, probably the most advanced. And when we come to the realization that we’re not any of those things, then I think we should be aware of it, learn to live with it and certainly try to take advantage of anything that we can learn from visitors from anywhere.”

Hellyer was one of the speakers at the annual International UFO Congress in Scottsdale, Arizona held last month.  He reported that he spotted a UFO last year with his wife north of Toronto.  They watched the object for about 20 minutes and were not able to determine what it was.  Hellyer never discussed his beliefs about alien life form when he was a high ranking government official.  “I got periodic reports on sightings and I looked at them very casually, and it was decided that about 80 percent of them were natural phenomena of one sort or another, and the other 20 percent roughly were unexplained, and therefore unidentified.”

Hellyer also accuses the United States of being actively involved in the cover-up behind UFOs and he states the U.S. have benefitted from technology obtained from aliens.  “That is my belief. I do not have proof of that, but I believe that they have developed energy sources, and publicly I’m saying that if they do not exist in commercial form, that extraterrestrials would certainly give us that information if we would ask them for it and stop shooting at them.”

Prior to the earthquake that rocked Japan, sending tsunamis of destruction and killing thousands of residents, something else strange was happening.  There was a dramatic increase in UFO activity.

It began about three weeks before the massive quake hit, the fifth largest ever since human kind began recording the intensity of earthquakes. A UFO fleet was spotted by witnesses while it moved over Japan’s Mount Fuji before the individual crafts spread out across the area.  The event, although easy to dismiss by skeptics, was reported in all seriousness by China’s main government news agency, Xinhua.  But, western media ignored the event.  There is video of the UFOs.  It is difficult to really see much.  There are certainly bright white objects in the day sky that appear to be floating around, unlike a plane.  But, the image never becomes very clear.  There are numerous witnesses to the event, though, that all describe similar objects in the sky.

Shortly after that sighting, there were further UFO sightings around Japan.  Footage of a single UFO was captured days later.  The mysterious object is shaped like an orb and seems to be metallic.  It appears to travel slowly, going in and out of the clouds.  Another UFO fleet was filmed just days before the massive earthquake.  The video captured of the fleet appears very similar to the earlier footage.

Some speculate that they can see UFOs even on news coverage of the earthquake and tsunami.  Two videos seen here and here purport that a UFO is flying past the cameras, although I was unable to see much.

Throughout the region covering Asiatic Russia, China and Japan, mysterious objects have been seen over the skies in the last few months at an alarming frequency. Japanese UFO researchers have suggested in the past that a wormhole exists in the vicinity of Mount Fuji and UFOs are entering Earth’s atmosphere through it.  Some researchers have suggested a possible connection between UFOs and earthquakes.

Whatever is going on, it is startling to realize that our natural disasters are becoming bigger and more extreme.   Whether it is because of climate change, alien invasions, or end times—it certainly seems to suggest something bigger is on its way.

UFO sightings continue to be reported during this winter from all across the world.  Although many have been dismissed as hoaxes, many more still remain unexplained mysteries.  The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) has had a more active than usual past few months of unexplained lights in the sky and other UFO type sightings.

In the middle of March, there were numerous reports of lights over night skies across the United States.  In two separate California events, witnesses filed reports for red-orange lights in the sky on March 8 and March 9.  “We look up after last night’s sighting and see a reddish orange light moving across sky – too slow to be a plane or satellite – in the southern view of the sky,” the reporting witness stated. “It came from the west above the ocean and headed east.”

Another witness reported that in Golden Valley, Arizona, there was a “yellow to amber” orb in the sky on March 9, 2011.  The strange object traveled silently below the normal flight path of an airplane and dimmed to a “dull gray” color according to the report on MUFON.  “Notably about these objects is ‘how’ they move,” the report read. “If you watch very carefully you will notice their movement is not in a straight path but in a jittery, wobbly type of motion. It is not extremely noticeable but you can see it.”  Three photographs were also submitted with the report from Arizona.   – Photo # 1, Photo # 2, and Photo # 3.

Over Georgia, a witness reported a sphere shaped object hovering over trees on March 9^th.  The report stated it was not the first time the objects had been seen.  “I observed a shining oval/sphere shaped object hovering above some trees for about 20 seconds, then it disappeared,” the witness stated. “It seemed very close. This has been happening here for several months now, but this is the first time I have reported it.”

Another report from California stated that a couple saw three star-like objects hovering in the sky for a 15 minute period, also on March 9^th.

“… we noticed an orange light traveling in the western sky, from north to south,” according to the report. “This object seemed to be at a much lower altitude compared to the other two objects. This object traveled in a generally strait (sic) direction but it did appear to slightly change direction at times. It also changed speed, sometimes slowing down, then speeding back up. We watched it for about 40 seconds, until it disappeared, possibly behind some clouds.”

An astrobiologist working at NASA’s Marshall Space Flying Center in Alabama has stated that he found alien life form.  In a recently published article in the Journal of Cosmology, Dr. Richard B. Hoover claims to have discovered a preserved alien life form residing inside a meteor.

Dr. Hoover began his study by deducing what type of meteor would be best suited to alien life form.  He narrowed his search to the CI class of carbonaceous chrondite meteors.   These meteors are rich in water, amino acids, and other organic compounds — a virtual pantry for a microorganism.  Picking the most ideal type of CI meteorite — CI1 optimized his chances, but narrowed his pool of available samples.  It is believed that only nine such meteorites exist on earth.  Dr. Hoover was able to obtain one of the few meteorites.  After smashing a piece of the meteorite, he then scanned the result dust and fragments, using scanning-electron microscopes and field emissions electron-scanning microscopes.  He found what appeared to be a fossilized bacterium.  The identified specimen appears remarkably similar to the bacteria Titanospirillum velox, a sulfur-loving archaebacteria, which was discovered in 1999 mud samples from Spain.

The meteorite was reportedly broken under sterile conditions.  Still, some skeptics argue that the meteorite could have been contaminated.  The meteorite was collected in the frigid reaches of Antarctica immediately after their observed fall.  The fact that they were collected so quickly limits the possibility that indigenous microbes contaminated them.  The possibility of atmospheric contamination still remains, though.

Dr. Hoover believes that this is not a case of contamination.  He is convinced that he has become the first human to record a scientifically verifiable encounter with an alien being.  He states in a recent interview, “I interpret it as indicating that life is more broadly distributed than restricted strictly to the planet Earth. This field of study has just barely been touched — because quite frankly, a great many scientist would say that this is impossible.”

In the published study, Dr. Hoover writes an accompanying note encouraging others to review his work.  “Given the controversial nature of his discovery, we have invited 100 experts and have issued a general invitation to over 5,000 scientists from the scientific community to review the paper and to offer their critical analysis. No other paper in the history of science has undergone such a thorough vetting, and never before in the history of science has the scientific community been given the opportunity to critically analyze an important research paper before it is published.”

Dr. David Marais, an astrobiologist at NASA’s AMES Research Center states, “It’s an extraordinary claim, and thus I’ll need extraordinary evidence.”

Serbian air traffic controllers reported that a female-sounding alien spoke to them in a cat-like language.  The mysterious object – which they believe was a high-speed UFO –also burst onto flight monitors over the remote Russian city of Yakutsk, the Daily Mail reported.

The UFO rapidly changed directions in the sky and reached speeds of 6000 miles per hour according to the aviation workers.  Surrounding planes were traveling significantly slower.  The UFO was logged at a height of 64,895 feet above sea level and appeared to interfere with aviation frequencies.

They repeatedly tried to make contact to the mysterious object.  “I kept hearing some female voice, as if a woman was saying mioaw-mioaw all the time,” one air traffic controller told the pilot of a passing Aeroflot flight.  The UFO was automatically designated as “00000″ as it did not have a flight number.

On footage posted on You Tube, the air traffic controllers’ communications to a Russian plane were disrupted by interference from the UFO.   The footage was first posted last month but it is unclear when it was taken. A shot of the airport did not appear to show any snow which is normal for eight months a year in Yakutsk.  At one point, the UFO is shown moving away from Yakutsk at a rapid pace before turning and heading back toward the city.

PILOT: Can’t get you, can’t hear.

Then the controller starts checking out connection.

PILOT: Ok, I hear you now. There was this strange meowing female voice interfering with the frequency.
CONTROLLER: When did you hear it? In which time interval?
PILOT: All the time from the very beginning when our communication started.

Airport officials have not commented yet on the alleged UFO.

Sammy Hagar, most well known for his stint as lead singer of Van Halen, has published a memoir detailing his days as a rock star.  However, the most notable portion of Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock is not about groupies, fights, or drugs.  It is about alien abduction.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has a section in his memoir that recounts some strange dreams about UFOs that Hagar had as a youngster.  Hagar also reports in his book that he believes he may have been “manipulated” in some way by a force not of this Earth, if not abducted by aliens.

In an interview with MTV Hive about the memoir, Hagar goes into more detail about his belief in aliens and alien abduction.  “People say there’s no other life in the universe. But you know how big the universe is? It’s freakin’ huge! If we’re really the only ones out there, that’s scarier to me than thinking there are aliens,” Hagar told MTV.

Hagar stated in the interview, and in his book, that he believes he may have been abducted by aliens.   In his book, he describes a dream where he was connected to aliens.  “I saw a ship and two creatures inside of this ship… And they were connected to me, tapped into my mind through some kind of mysterious wireless connection,” the passage reads in part. Only, he believes it was real and not just a dream.  Speaking in the interview about the experience, Hagar insists it was not a dream.  “It was real. [Aliens] were plugged into me. It was a download situation. This was long before computers or any kind of wireless. There weren’t even wireless telephones. Looking back now, it was like, “Fuck, they downloaded something into me!” Or they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment. “See what this guy knows.”

He also describes another strange experience that he did not include in his book.  “Another thing happened when I was about four that I didn’t put into the book. One time I saw what I considered to be, well, at the time I thought it was a car with no wheels. We lived out in the country and I saw this thing floating across a field, creating this big dust storm. I threw rocks at it and shit. And I don’t know what happened after that.”

There have recently been two separate, but eerily similar UFO sightings.  The first one occurred in Utah on January 26^th.  The second sighting occurred halfway around the world over the Dome of the Rock in Israel on January 28^th.  Since these sightings, the skies have been relatively quiet.

In Utah County, three red lights appeared between 7:15 and 7:30 in the evening.  Witnesses described the lights as hovering in formation and dropping what appeared to be flares.  One witness to the event, Mike Galbraith, was in a parking lot of a shopping plaza in American Fork, Utah, when he noticed the strange lights.  Galbraith, who served in the Air Force, grabbed his cell phone and quickly started to record the strange event.   Galbraith said, “They looked like they were flying in formation perfectly together and then whatever was dropping looked like it was burning real bright.” Galbraith doesn’t believe the trails of white that appeared to drop straight down from the red lights were flares. He stated that military flares don’t typically look like that.

“They usually shoot out the sides, or they shoot down, and there are a lot of them and you could definitely hear them.”  He said there was no sound.  He also said he could not tell the shape of the objects, but they were unlike any plane or helicopter, and were flying at an unusual altitude.   The control tower at the Provo airport had no reports of anything unusual, nor did the Utah County Sheriff’s Department.

Two nights later, an unidentified object was seen hovering over the Dome of the Rock.  Captured on video, the image is startling and, if real, one of the best videos of a possible UFO sighting.  On the video, a ball of light appears in the sky and hovers for a minute.  It then begins to descend, straight down directly over the Dome of the Rock for a moment.  The craft then flickers and shoots upwards at an incredible speed, to the shock of the witnesses.  The video also shows a series of red lights flashing in the sky, similar to the Utah sighting. There were four videos of this event captured from different angles.  Although many have dismissed it as a hoax, some suggest that only one of the videos is a fake and the other ones are unknown.

The Voynich Manuscript, a book that was found nearly a century ago, has mystified scientists and experts for years.  Written in what seems to be an “alien” language, with some characters resembling Latin letters, and others unlike anything used in any known language.  One mystery surrounding the book, which is owned by Yale, was recently solved.

Last month, according to the University of Arizona, the book was carbon-dated by a team of scientists from the University and it can now be determined when the mysterious book was written.  Carbon-14 dating suggests the book was created between 1404 and 1438, nearly a century earlier than originally thought.  However, much of the rest of the book remains a mystery.

The University of Arizona press release explains the mystery with the book in more detail.  “This tome makes the “DaVinci Code” look downright lackluster: Rows of text scrawled on visibly aged parchment, flowing around intricately drawn illustrations depicting plants, astronomical charts and human figures bathing in – perhaps – the fountain of youth. At first glance, the “Voynich manuscript” appears to be not unlike any other antique work of writing and drawing.”

“Is it a code, a cipher of some kind?” asked Greg Hodgins, who led the UA team.  “People are doing statistical analysis of letter use and word use—the tools that have been used for code breaking.  But they still haven’t figured it out,” Hodgins said.

The parchment pages of the Voynich manuscript, which was discovered by a book dealer in an old chest outside of Rome in 1912, were made from animal skin and therefore are able to be carbon dated.  Hodgins, a chemist and archaeological scientist was able to use carbon dating on tiny bits of the pages extracted with a scalpel.  Dating the book from the early 15^th century does not make it the oldest book, but it does make it older than the Gutenberg bible—the first book printed with modern presses.

“There are many reasons why a manuscript would have been written in code at the time,” Hodgins explained, “fears of accusations of heresy or witchcraft among them. Then again, there is also the possibility that the manuscript doesn’t say anything at all. Some of the top researchers in the field lean toward the latter explanation, particularly since it has proven impossible using the latest computer technology to decipher the script.”

Three UFOs were recently captured on video flying over the U.S. city of Chicago, Illinois.  In a video that lasts for nearly 15 minutes, an alleged UFO is seen hovering in the sky above a grocery store parking lot.  The cameraman was filming an American flag in the parking lot that was blowing in the breeze when the videographer noticed the UFO.

The alleged sighting occurred at 6:50PM on February 28^th.  The video is shaky and it is difficult to make out the UFO at first.  The cameraman tries to zoom in to capture the mysterious light better but the image becomes distorted.  Many people believe it was a planet that was captured and not anything from another planet.  During the last two minutes of the video, three UFOs can be spotted through trees.  One of bright lights is described by the video’s subtitles as purple but on the footage, the color does not change and remains white.  The entire video can be viewed on Youtube.

This UFO sighting closely followed another UFO sighting also in the skies over Chicago.  Alex Scerbicke of Bartlett, Illinois, recorded video footage of what appears to be a UFO or group of UFOs changing formation on February 19th. The video has since been removed.  According to the website, Niternat, some witnesses report that the light show happens every night in the same spot over Chicago.  One witness reports there are sometimes up to 10 lights in the sky near each other.   The lights are extremely bright and often rainbow colored.  Another witness stated he saw a strange pattern of orange lights in a giant V shape.  Believing they were just aircrafts in a hold pattern for O’Hare International Airport, he and his son drove their snowmobiles up a large hill to watch the lights.  The witness reports they watched the lights for over 30 minutes and they never moved from their position, just changed their pattern of lights.
