Marvel Entertainment and ESPN The Magazine are proud to officially unveil LeBron: King of The Rings, an all-new, full-color, ten-page comic which debuted exclusively in ESPN The Magazine’s NBA Preview on Friday, October 19. Two years ago, LeBron James predicted he would win not one, not two, not three … but seven NBA titles. What if he was right? In their second collaboration, The Mag and Marvel Custom Solutions have united to create LeBron: King of the Rings, an epic tale of zombies, clones, holograms, bionics and a star who will stop at nothing to fulfill his promise.

Featuring a cover by Adi Granov, this is the first comic book created in collaboration by Marvel Custom Solutions and ESPN The Magazine.

Marvel Entertainment and the Brooklyn Nets have announced the creation of Brooklyn’s new Super Hero and the first one in NBA history. Enter BrooklyKnight, protector of Brooklyn’s hometown team, defender of New York’s largest and most courageous borough, and ruler of Barclays Center.

BrooklyKnight made his debut in the Brooklyn Nets’ first-ever regular season game in their new home, Barclays Center, against the Toronto Raptors. Before the start of the game, the BrooklyKnight boldly landed at center court to inspire his team and rally the crowd. To commemorate the first appearance of this historic new sports icon, Marvel Custom Solutions worked with the Nets to create BrooklyKnight #1, an all-new 32-page comic book by Jason Aaron, writer of Thor: God of Thunder and Wolverine & The X-Men and illustrated by artist Mike Deodato of Amazing Spider-Man and New Avengers fame. All guests at tonight’s game received copies of the limited edition comic book.

“As a Brooklynite and a hardcore hoops fan, for me to get the opportunity to help create a Super Hero for my home borough’s new team was a dream come true,” said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “Working with the Nets staff, we have created a team Super Hero that is unlike anything the NBA has ever seen; a timeless character who can stand shoulder to shoulder with icons like Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, and Thor. In the move that shocked and saddened comic book fans worldwide, beloved super hero Professor Charles Xavier meets his demise in Avengers VS. X-Men #11. In the penultimate chapter of the biggest comic book story in 2012, superstar creators Brian Michael Bendis and Olivier Coipel rally the forces of the Marvel Universe against the final two members of the seemingly all-powerful Phoenix Five—Cyclops and Emma Frost. But as this epic battle rages, Cyclops makes a decision that not only takes the life of the man who formed the X-Men and raised him like a son, but that also may damn both the Avengers and the X-Men.

The Marvel ReEvolution is here—and comics will never be the same. The future of comic book publishing was unveiled on Monday to the raucous crowd at SXSW Interactive’ s ScreenBurn Arcade courtesy of industry superstars Axel Alonso (Editor  in Chief, Marvel Comics), Peter Phillips (SVP/GM, Marvel Digital Media) and Jeph Loeb (Head of Marvel Television) during the historic Marvel: House of Ideas panel.

An industry first, the Marvel ReEvolution seamlessly brings the worlds of print and digital media together for a comics experience like no other. The first two elements of this exciting new initiative were revealed as Marvel Infinite Comics, a new comic book format, and Marvel AR, the first major augmented reality app from a comics company. And fans will not have to wait long to get in on the action as they will both be released with the hotly-anticipated Avengers X-Men #1 on April 4, when the two biggest Super Heroes teams in the world go to war.

“Marvel’s always led graphic fiction industry in digital media innovation and the Marvel ReEvolution is a quantum leap into the future of publishing,” said Dan Buckley. Publisher & President of the Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide, Inc.

“We see print and digital product as complementary, not competitive—so we’ve made sure that not only do we have new digital content but also digital products that enhance the printed page. The release of Avengers VS X-Men #1, the biggest story we’ve ever told, is the activation point for the re-evolution of comics as a whole.”

Marvel Infinite Comics represent a new form of comic book storytelling, using tablets and smartphones as a new canvas for storytelling, taking advantage of modern technology while staying true to medium’s greatest strengths.

The first comic released in this format will be Avengers VS X-Men #1 Infinite, from acclaimed creators Mark Waid and Stuart Immonen and available on April 4 for purchase on the Marvel Comics app, free with the redemption of the code found in print copies of Avengers VS X-Men #1 or included with the purchase of the digital version.

“We call these Marvel Infinite Comics because the storytelling possibilities are, frankly, infinite. Writers and artists now have a whole host of new tools at their disposal to redefine the comic book medium,” said Alonso.

“Current tablets and smartphones, along with comiXology’s Guided View technology, allow us to develop new, full length stories for a different medium that are very much truly comics—but experienced by readers in a way no other major company has ever executed.”

The Marvel AR app, powered by Aurasma, will be released in April for iOS and Android devices. Marvel is also pleased to announce, that in collaboration with the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate, an all-new graphic fiction adaptation of the legendary John Carter novels with John Carter: The Gods Of Mars #1 hitting comic shops everywhere March 2012.

From the creative team of rising stars Sam Humphries (Sacrifice) & Ramon Perez (Jim Henson’s Tale Of Sand), the heroic John Carter makes his return to Barsoom to not save it from Martian beasts – but Martian gods! Finally, Marvel: Season One, a line of all-new graphic novels, just got bigger as Marvel has added three titles to the highly anticipated line-up with Ant-Man: Season One, Hulk: Season One & Doctor Strange: Season One.

These all-new complete stories offer fans a chance to immerse themselves in the Marvel Universe like never before. This February, prepare for the Punisher story you never thought you would read as Jason Aaron & Steve Dillon bring their epic run on PunisherMAX to an end with PunisherMAX #22. Frank Castle has been through it all and just when you think you know what’s coming in the series finale, think again.

“It’s been a big sick bloody thrill working on this series and a right honor following in the footsteps of Garth Ennis,” explained Aaron. “I must say, I’m as proud of this series as anything I’ve ever done at Marvel, in large part because of the amazing art team of Dave Johnson, Matt Hollingsworth and of course Steve Dillon. This was always intended to be one big story, with a very specific beginning, middle and a slam-bang mother of an end. I’m afraid I can’t say any more about the ending than than.. other than that it gave me chills, just getting to write it.”

“I’ve drawn a lot of Frank Castle over the last dozen or so years and I’ve been lucky enough to work with some really good writers while doing so,” said Dillon. “Jason has really delivered on this one, so much so that I wait for the script to arrive in my inbox like a fan waiting for the book to hit the shelves in the store. He’s taken some great characters, like the Kingpin and Bullseye, and given them his own MAX twist. He’s also taken Frank on a tortuous, personal journey and it’s all been great fun to draw.”

To ensure retailers have enough copies to meet demand, Marvel will be going back to press on PunisherMAX #17 and PunisherMAX #18. The chapters kicking off “Homeless,” the name of Aaron and Dillon’s final arc, are only a taste of what’s in store for Frank Castle and Marvel wants to make sure no fan misses the beginning of the end.

“The day has come. You always knew the Punisher’s one-man war against organized crime would end bad, but you never knew how bad,” added Marvel Editor In Chief, Axel Alonso. “With PunisherMAX #22 Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon bring the tragedy of Frank Castle’s life to a boil and their epic run to a bloody climax that will haunt readers for years to come.”
