The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

New York, U.S.A — Sirius XM Radio announced on October 12,that David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, of Crosby, Stills and Nash, will sit down for a rare Q&A session with a select group of SiriusXM listeners at the SiriusXM studios in New York City.

“SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Crosby, Stills and Nash” will air live on Classic Vinyl, channel 26, on Wednesday, October 17 at 2:00 pm ET.

The special is part of SiriusXM’s “Town Hall” series, intimate gatherings with iconic musicians and a studio audience of SiriusXM listeners. Previous “SiriusXM Town Hall” specials have featured Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Coldplay, Ringo Starr, Roger Waters, Renee Fleming, Gregg Allman, Usher, Linkin Park, Ziggy Marley and the surviving members of Nirvana.

Hosted by SiriusXM’s Earle Bailey, the “SiriusXM Town Hall with Crosby, Stills and Nash” will feature each of the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees answering questions from the studio audience of SiriusXM listeners about their legendary career: from their first-ever concert at Woodstock to the release of CSN 2012, the band’s first live performance video in over two decades.

Crosby, Stills and Nash (CSN) begins the final five shows of their wildly successful 2012 tour at New York City’s Beacon Theatre beginning October 16 and concluding on October 24th with a special presentation of the group performing its first album in its entirety as the second set that night. That show also marks the conclusion of CSN’s extensive 2012 world tour, which comprised more than 80 dates in the U.S.,Australia, New Zealand, and South America.

Crosby, Stills and Nash collectively commented, “It will be fascinating to hear what questions will be asked. We are looking forward to this event and will be as honest as we can be.”

“Crosby, Stills and Nash are icons and musicians of the highest order who have written and performed some of the most important and unforgettable songs of any generation,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “Self reflective, personal, as well as worldly and socially active, their music was the soundtrack of not just a generation but the country as well. And CSN’s influence on songwriters and performers has been unmistakable. After all their travels, we can’t wait to hear their answers to questions from long-time fans. ”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Cast members from The Beatles Love by Cirque du Soleil performed live at the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year gala at the Los Angeles Convention Center. All 60 dancers and acrobats from Love performed to a specially edited track by Producer Giles Martin, featuring songs from the two-time Grammy Award-winning Love album.

Iconic artist and philanthropist Paul McCartney was honored as the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year at this special event celebrating his exceptional artistic achievements as well as his philanthropic work. The sold-out tribute to McCartney benefits MusiCares’ emergency financial assistance and addiction recovery programs.

Proceeds from the annual Person of the Year tribute — now in its 22nd year — provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that members of the music community have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.

Additional performances included multi-Grammy winning artists and current Grammy nominees Tony Bennett, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, and Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas; Grammy winning artist Duane Eddy; multi-Grammy winning artists Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and James Taylor; two-time Grammy winning artists Diana Krall and Neil Young with Crazy Horse; two-time Latin Grammy winning artist Sergio Mendes; and current Grammy nominee Katy Perry.

The evening also featured a special performance by 14-time Grammy winning artist and 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year Paul McCartney. Love, a Cirque du Soleil creation and co-production with Apple Corps Ltd., celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatles and is presented exclusively at The Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

This joint artistic venture marks the first time that The Beatles company, Apple Corps, has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. The project was born out of a personal friendship and mutual admiration between the late George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte.

Since its June 2006 premiere, Love has performed over 2,000 shows for more than 4.3 million people. Recently named “Best Show in Las Vegas” by USA Today, Love has been voted “Best Show in Las Vegas” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for four consecutive years and continues to be a celebrity favorite.

In February 2011, The Beatles’ Grammy Award-winning Love album and ‘All Together Now’ documentary made their digital debuts, exclusively on iTunes.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Columbia Records has announced that it has signed the well-known indie band Walk Off The Earth, whose current YouTube video, a five-person, one guitar cover of “Somebody That I Used to Know,” has racked up 50 million views on YouTube in less than a month.

The powerful fan response to the video has turned the five-year-old Canadian group into a media phenomenon and propelled them onto American network television, where a posted video of their appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show received a half-million views in less than a week.

In fact, Walk Off The Earth’s version of “Somebody That I Used To Know” saw the highest Billboard debut since April 2011, blasting onto the charts at #14 with over 70,000 singles sold to date. The viral effect has been international as well – the song hit #1 on iTunes in Sweden and Germany as well as WOTE’s native Canada, where the track has achieved digital gold status.

The band has already gotten thumbs-up from an impressive roster of show business veterans, including actor Russell Crowe, Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Wiz Khalifa (they covered his song “Roll Up”), Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest and Adele. Their version of her hit “Someone Like You” has had 3 million YouTube views.

WOTE’s presence on Facebook has grown exponentially as well since the video was first posted on Jan. 5. They now have 300,000 people who “like” them – an 85 percent jump in just three weeks; in addition, their page on Wikipedia has been averaging 10,000 page views a day.

Goyte featuring Kimbra’s original video for “Somebody That I Used to Know” was an internet sensation on its own before Walk Off The Earth’s Gianni Luminati decided it was a perfect song for his band members, known for their creative remakes of current songs. (After seeing the Walk Off The Earth version, Goyte tweeted his approval, calling the new video “hilarious and brilliant.”) In the video, the five play the same guitar simultaneously as Ryan Marshall, Luminati and Sarah Blackwood trade off on vocals. The other band members are Joel Cassady on drums/percussion and Mike Taylor on keyboard.

But the Burlington, Ontario-based Walk Off The Earth, as their loyal fans will attest, is hardly an overnight sensation. Together since 2006, the five accomplished performers have remade dozens of songs and self-released 2 full-length albums of original material, including the first single, “These Times.”

Their ability to take a familiar song and give it an innovative twist has made their YouTube channel a hit, with 280,000 subscribers and 80 million combined views of their videos of both originals and covers. ”It’s been a crazy, dream-come-true moment for us,” said Luminati. “Our fans brought us to where we are now,” said Blackwood. “We will continue to play for them for a long time to come.”

It was Luminati – a musician since childhood who specializes in layering musical sounds and beat-boxing – who first envisioned the five group members playing the same guitar.

Once he heard the Goyte tune, “I knew right away it was the perfect song for the idea,” he recalls. “I started messing around with different parts seeing if it would work.” Once he realized it could be done, he asked his bandmates to learn their individual parts before attempting to make the video.

Once reunited, he admits they had trouble getting all the pieces to fit together: “It was pretty frustrating.” And once they turned on the camera it took 30 takes until they finally succeeded at around 4 a.m., when Luminati uploaded the video to their YouTube channel. (“All of our videos are one cut because I don’t know how to edit,” he admits).

“I went to bed at five or six in the morning, and by the time I woke up around 11 a.m. it was well on its way around the world,” he remembers. “We were already getting talked about on local radio stations.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Current Grammy nominee Adele will make her much anticipated return to the live stage on the 54th Annual Grammy Award. This will be her first time performing live in nearly five months since being forced to cancel a sold-out U.S. tour to undergo surgery on her vocal cords.

Music’s Biggest Night— hosted by two-time Grammy winner LL Cool J — takes place live on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in high definition and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The show also will be supported on radio worldwide via Dial Global, and covered online at Grammy.com and CBS.com, and on YouTube.

LL Cool J has hosted “The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night” since its inception in December 2008, and this is his first time hosting the annual Grammy Awards telecast.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

It was recently announced that for the first time Amnesty International’s world-renowned Secret Policeman’s Ball will be hosted in the United States. The event – a star-studded, legendary night of comedy and music – will take place on March 4, 2012 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

This historic event is a spectacular evening of original comedy, multiplatinum, award-winning musical performers and collaborations, never-before-seen sketches, stand-up and guest appearances, all written around and in support of free speech. An audience of more than 6,000 people will gather at Radio City Music Hall to experience a special night filled with original performances from some of the world’s most popular entertainers including: Coldplay, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Mumford & Sons, Russell Brand, Reggie Watts and many more.

“I used to think humor was a luxury, but at the last election Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert taught me it was a necessity,” said John Cleese. “The Secret Policeman’s Ball was - and is - a coming together of the very best comedy talent of any generation to celebrate their art, remind audiences how important free speech is, and highlight just how much vital work Amnesty International does to protect it. I implore you to support it.”

“We are so happy to be involved with the 2012 Secret Policeman’s Ball,” said Chris Martin of Coldplay. “We have followed and supported Amnesty International – and the amazing work they do around the world in the field of human rights – for years, and it is a pleasure to be asked to contribute to such an inspiring event.”

Beginning in 1976, the Secret Policeman’s Ball pioneered cause-focused benefit concerts that bring together star-power and world leaders to raise awareness about critically important global issues. The Secret Policeman’s Ball has featured legendary artists and entertainers who both share world-renowned talent and a dedication to changing the world.

“Secret Policeman’s Ball has a long and hilariously off-color history of using comic genius to fight for free speech and human rights around the world,” said Lily Sobhani, Executive Producer of the Secret Policeman’s Ball. “We are thrilled that the leading lights of comedy and music are coming together to bring the Secret Policeman’s Ball to the United States for the first time.”

“Entertainers have used political cartoons, protest songs and straight-out skewering of politicians and leaders to challenge virtually every government’s failure to uphold fundamental rights,” said Suzanne Nossel, Amnesty International USA’s new Executive Director. “We are thrilled that some of the most creative political humorists of our time will perform when Amnesty International hosts the first Secret Policeman’s Ball in the United States. And on March 4, those of us who can make fun of our government and walk away in safety will dedicate the program to those who cannot.”

Amnesty International is thrilled to present the Secret Policeman’s Ball, being produced by Amnesty International; world leading producer of global events Control Room; and leading independent creative agency, Mother.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Sirius XM Radio has announced recently that Ringo Starr will sit down for a rare, exclusive Q&A session, hosted by Russell Brand and moderated by legendary producer Don Was, with a select group of SiriusXM subscribers at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, California.

“SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Ringo Starr” will air live on The Spectrum, channel 28, on Monday, January 30at 4:00 pm ET, the day before the release of Starr’s new album, Ringo 2012. The special is part of SiriusXM’s “Town Hall” series, an intimate gathering with an iconic musician and a studio audience of SiriusXM listeners. Previous “SiriusXM Town Hall” specials have featured Bruce Springsteen, the surviving members of Nirvana, Tom Petty and Coldplay.

Hosted by Russell Brand, and moderated by Don Was, who is featured on Ringo 2012, the “SiriusXM Town Hall with Ringo Starr” will include the legendary singer/songwriter/drummer answering questions from the studio audience.

“I am a massive fan of Ringo and of all his work, but like most people I am ignorant as to his life before he rose to prominence with Thomas the Tank Engine,” said Russell Brand. “Now we can unravel the enigma of Ringo.”

“As a member of The Beatles and with his enduring series of hits as a solo artist, Ringo Starr changed not only popular music, but pop culture,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “We are thrilled to give Ringo’s fans the chance to sit, talk and ask questions of this music icon as part of our Town Hall series.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Everyone who is music-conscious in South Africa is talking about it, ‘it’ being South Africa’s boom in popularity as a destination for international acts. This seems to go hand in hand with South African musicians’ new-found popularity abroad. Just think of artists such as Die Antwoord or Jack Parow. South Africa is serious about its music, and it’s a lovely surprise to see the world take notice.

International acts provided South Africa with much happy entertainment throughout 2011. The year featured an impressive line-up of top musical acts from around the world. These included The Script, Coldplay, Kings of Leon and U2 with their amazing spider-looking contraption of a stage. Roxette graced South African stages during their first world tour in sixteen years, and Faithless allowed South Africans of all ages to jam to their live music, right before another of their rumoured band break-ups.

Rammstein paid a visit for the first time in their career, and Deadmau5 took South Africa by storm – one which was unanticipated by the concert organizers, who had to book a bigger venue for their Cape Town concert. They just had too many South African fans. In fact, each of these concerts was particularly well attended – a sign of South Africa’s appreciation for being recognized as a part of the international circuit.

Various South African musicians opened for these big names, proving that they can be as good as big Grammy-award-winning stars. The Arrows did well when they opened for The Script; and Goldfish, an energetic South African duo playing double bass, keyboards, tenor and soprano sax, energized the masses when they opened for Faithless at Cape Town’s Grand West Casino.

Also worth mentioning is The Parlotones who opened for Coldplay. With his soothing, sultry voice and famous, striking eyeliner, The Parlotones lead singer Kahn Morbee soon had the crowd singing and dancing to their songs, not to mention the girls’ swooning at the Parlotone boys.

Equally, 2011 was a year for South African musicians to make waves abroad. Die Antwoord, a band claiming to be from “the dark dangerous depths of Afrika” (www.dieantwoord.com), has graced international stages as well as channels such as MTV. Look out for their new “Evil boy” toy range alongside their new album, “Ten$ion”, in 2012. Also on the move are acts such as the rapping, funny-yet-serious Jack Parow.

On the more theatrical side of things, local theatres are currently buzzing with the success of Andrew Lloyd-Weber’s internationally-acclaimed “The Phantom of the Opera,” and a band that composes for theater, “Mr. Cat and the Jackal”, made some interesting new sounds to the delight of South African theatre-lovers.

South Africa is proud of its cultural diversity and this is evident in its extraordinary variety of music festivals. New Year’s celebrations are never complete without the “Tweede Nuwe Jaar” Street Parade, or simply the “Coon Carnival,” a parade and street party during which colourful Cape minstrels take to the streets with authentic Cape Town sounds.

In 2011, up to sixty minstrel choirs paraded Cape Town streets singing traditional songs. Their colourful costumes, smiling faces and overall good-naturedness ensured a happy new year for all in attendance. Another mainstay, the National Festival of the Arts, transforms the small Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown into a massive cultural hub, featuring acts ranging from traditional African music and dancing to classical piano concerts.

Other festivals include “Rocking the Daisies,” “Rock the River SA” and the “Oppikoppi” festivals. These featured line-ups of more contemporary indigenous musical acts, entertaining the young-at-heart. The 2011 “Rock the River” ensured that their line-up catered even to dubstep fans, providing everyone with a chance to dance during festivals over Easter and New Year’s Eve. Lovers of trance music gathered together for a weekend of celebration at Synergy in November. These festivals are adored by music-lovers of all kinds.

This is but a small part of the musical happenings that kept South Africans smiling and dancing through 2011. Altogether it was a good year for musicians and audiences alike. May 2012 bring even more opportunities for South Africans to experience their favorite artists live and for South African stars to take on the world with their unique sounds.

The album’s sales were significantly less compared to the previous two albums which debuted on the chart with 721,000 and 737,000 albums sold. According to Nielsen SoundScan, “Mylo Xyloto” is the third biggest debut this year, selling 447,000 physical and digital copies.

Only Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne have managed to sell more in one week this year. Gaga’s “Born this Way” sold 1.1 million albums, and Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV” sold 964,000. Kelly Clarkson’s new album, “Stronger,” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 200 and sold 163,000 copies.

This is the American Idol winner’s fifth studio effort as she stands as the most successful artist to come out of the popular show. The Canadian singer, Michael Buble, finds success in his holiday album, “Christmas,” which sold 141,000 copies and debuted at No. 3 behind Coldplay and Kelly Clarkson.

Rihanna had a big week, too, as her new single, “We Found Love” in which she collaborated with the Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Rihanna takes the crown from Adele’s “Someone Like You” who held the No. 1 spot for four weeks in a row.

This marks the Barbadian’s eleventh No. 1 ranking on the chart since her career began in 2005. She now ties with Whitney Houston, but surpassed Stevie Wonder and Janet Jackson, both of whom had 10 No. 1 hits. Her sixth album titled “Talk That Talk” is due to be released later this month, just a year after the release of her successful fifth album “Loud.”

Justin Bieber’s holiday album, “Mistletoe,” is set to debut at No. 1 next week, though the single of the same name dropped in rank from 11 to 73 in just one week on the Billboard Hot 100. In the meantime, a young woman by the name of Mariah Yeater hit the Canadian singer with a paternity suit claiming they had a sexual encounter after a concert last year in Los Angeles.

A California court will have a hearing next month, but Island Def Jam records have publicly denied the accusation and stated they will do everything they can to protect the young singer.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Gwyneth Paltrow admitted it wasn’t easy to make her marriage work. The actress even said she might not be together for good with the Coldplay singer Chris Martin.

Despite this, she confirmed that Coldplay singer was a great father for their children Apple and Moses. The two stars married in California in December 2003. In their seven years of marriage, the actress and the lead singer used to split their time between homes in North London and New York.

There always have been rumours and claims in U.S newspapers and magazines that their marriage was permanently under strain. Finally and without hesitation, Gwyneth Paltrow admitted in an interview with Elle magazine the pressure of her marriage.

“Sometimes it’s hard being with someone for a long time. We go through periods that aren’t all rosy. I always say, life is long and you never know what’s going to happen,” Paltrow said.

Despite her statements, the winner of the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the 1999 film Shakespeare in Love, says the couple have no intention of separating. She said if one day they decide to end the marriage it would be friendly because they have too much respect for each other.

“If, God forbid, we were ever not to be together, I respect him so much as the father of my children. He’s such a good dad,” Paltrow said.

Paltrow thinks that you can never be relaxed or think that you have everything done with marriage. The couple is brought together by music. The lead singer of Coldplay isn’t the only one with musical talent.

This year Gwyneth made her first spot performing at Grammy Awards, with the help of some of her famous co-stars. She also made an appearance at Glee, CMA Awards and on Saturday Night Live, where she kept being breathtaking. Coldplay is one of the most powerful musical groups, and Paltrow is very proud of her husband’s band.

“He’s a musical genius. It’s like living with Picasso,” she said. Martin “makes music for his fans, and he doesn’t want people to conjure a lame famous couple when they’re getting into his music.” Paltrow is a woman with many talents. The actress has taken on the role of the GOPP guru. She has launched different websites since 2008.

She launched Goop.com where she gives different tips and tricks to her fans, including workout routines they want to know. She believes her online newsletters are a good way to guide any who is looking for health regimens.

“It’s so much easier to sit home and criticize other people,” she said. “What I love is inspiring people. People come up to me and say, ‘I want to have two kids and wear a bathing suit and not feel terrible about myself. I see how hard you work, and it makes me feel like I can do that too.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

This past weekend was one of anticipation and excitement as fans came out to see the popular English rock band Coldplay perform at Glastonbury, England’s renowned music festival. The presence of this Grammy award winning band made this spectacular event even more amazing, it was their 1st headlined Glastonbury appearance since 2005.

The festive city was filled with bright lights and a screaming crowd as the band got down and performed a number of the fans favorite hits on the legendary pyramid stage. Keeping that excitement alive, they surprised fans with not only one or two news songs, but a total of four unreleased tracks. Right before giving fans a taste of their upcoming album, lead singer Chris Martin warned the crowd “Please forgive us for playing new songs, one day they’ll be your favourites, but now it’s OK to be thinking, ‘What the fuck?’”

And judging by their reaction, the fans loved each one. The new tracks include: ‘Hurts Like Heaven’, ‘Major Minus’, ‘Us Against The World’, and ‘Charlie Brown.’ This performance marked the very first time these songs were played live in the UK. It’s been quite some time since their last album Viva La Vida which sold nearly seven million copies back in 2008, but after three years they’re back to give fans more great music.

Five days in a enormous greenfield, surrounded by thousands of people with the same goal: to be part of the largest summer festival in the whole world. That’s Glastonbury (UK).

Located in Southwest England, 10 kilometers away from Glastonbury City, you will find the entrance (after some queues) of a huge tented city. And believe me, it will worth it. There is no place like Glastonbury. Get wild on it, you won’t be the only one.

A perimeter of eight and a half miles of wildness and excitement

That’s right, an enormous area in the Vale of Avalon, good weather and tons and tons of music. What else do you need? This festival means a convergence of different life styles, cultures and gives you the possibility to be in touch with people of all over the globe.

There is no way to be bored in Glastonbury

With more than 20 different areas and lots of activities, there is no way to feel bored in this huge summer festival. From the main music stages, passing by the theatre and circus, the green fields, the dance village… and keep counting!

But, who?

The most important names in music were invited to this 5 non-stop days of live performances. U2, Coldplay, Beyoncé, The Chemical Brothers, Kaiser Chiefs… are some examples of what audience could see from 22nd to 26th June.

Want to to see more? Check out this ace poem from Glastonbury 2011 website poet in residence, Tony Walsh. From G to the Y, every letter has a meaning. Video: Why Glastonbury by Tony Walsh and Rohan Van Twest

Bad news, readers. There is no festival scheduled in 2012. We just need to wait until 2013 to assist again to this hotspot in music. Glastonbury will be back soon.
