The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

After a hiatus of 10 years, music icon David Bowie is back with a new single and a forthcoming new album. The album ‘The Next Day’ is already available for pre-order on iTunes, and it will be officially released on March 12 in two editions: standard and deluxe. The former will present 14 brand new songs; the latter will include three bonus tracks.

After the release of the album ‘Reality’ in 2003, the Englishman never hinted to the work on a new album; nevertheless, on the day of his 66th birthday, January 8, Bowie gave his fans the best of gifts: his come-back. As reported in a statement on Bowie’s official website:

“In recent years radio silence has been broken only by endless speculation, rumor and wishful thinking ….a new record…who would have ever thought it, who’d have ever dreamed it! After all David is the kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants…when he has something to say as opposed to something to sell. Today he definitely has something to say.”

Bowie comes back into the music scene with the surprise song “Where Are We Now?”; the lead single of ‘The Next Day’ was written by Bowie, which accompanied the track with a video directed by Tony Oursler. The video and the song show a look back into the Berlin period, which gave Bowie three of his masterpieces. “Where Are We Now?” is a melodic ballad, which contrasts the concepts of self-awareness to life and emotional uncertainty; it is a lucid look back into what one has been just to realize not to be sure where that path led.

For the realization of his new record, Bowie chose to work once again with producer Tony Visconti, the same producer who worked with the artist on ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Young Americans’, and ‘Scary Monsters’ to cite a few.

While enjoying the new single, excited for the new album, music lovers are now hoping for Bowie to announce a world tour.
