The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Los Angeles, U.S.A. — On December 12, Discovery Channel announced its order to production of the network’s first-ever, scripted mini-series titled “Klondike” (wt). The mini-series, based on Charlotte Gray’s novel Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike, brings to life the tale about six strangers and their collective fight for survival and wealth in a small, frontier town in the remote Klondike.

“Klondike” is a co-production between Discovery, Entertainment One Television (eOne) and Nomadic Pictures in association with Scott Free Television. Paul Scheuring (“Prison Break,” “A Man Apart”) is the primary writer and will serve as Executive Producer, along with Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker; as well as John Morayniss and Michael Rosenberg for eOne; Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes will serve as co-producers for Nomadic. Josh Goldin & Rachel Abramowitz are also writing episodes as Consulting Producers. Eileen O’Neill and Dolores Gavin will serve as Executive Producers for Discovery.

“We’ve been developing scripted for some time, but wanted to find the perfect fit. When we read Gold Diggers, we knew we finally found it,” said Eileen O’Neill, Group President of Discovery and TLC Networks, “Discovery created and owns the ‘gold’ narrative with several of our hit series and we’re elated to partner with Scott Free Television and eOne Television on a subject we know so well as our first, scripted project.”

‘”Klondike”was the last great gold rush; one which triggered a flood of prospectors ill-equipped, emotionally or otherwise, for the extreme and grueling conditions of the remote Yukon wilderness,’ said Ridley Scott, ” The personal adventures are as epic as the landscape, where ambition, greed, sex and murder, as well as their extraordinary efforts to literally strike it rich, are all chronicled by a young Jack London himself.”

“eOne is delighted to be working with Discovery as they make their foray into scripted television as well as join forces for the first time ever with Scott Free and continue our relationship with Nomadic Pictures,” said John Morayniss, CEO, eOne Television. “We’re looking forward to sharing this innovative adaptation of a well-known era, and sharing this epic mini-series with audiences around the world.”

“Klondike” follows the lives of two childhood best friends, Bill and Epstein, in the late 1890s as they undertake the next, gold rush capital in the untamed Yukon Territory. This man-versus-nature tale places our heroes in a land full of undiscovered wealth, but ravaged by harsh conditions, unpredictable weather and desperate, dangerous characters including greedy businessmen, seductive courtesans and native tribes witnessing the destruction of their people and land by opportunistic entrepreneurs.

Production begins in March 2013 on location in Alberta, Canada. The series will be produced with assistance of the Government of Alberta, Alberta Film Development Program. International distribution will be handled by eOne Television.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

New York, U.S.A. — Is science the secret sorcery to creating a successful magic trick? Discovery Channel and Discovery Channel International go on a worldwide tour with today’s most innovative magicians who transform pure science into mind-boggling magic tricks. Get ready to learn the chemistry, physics and biology powering the world’s greatest illusions. The new nine-part series comprised of 30-minute episodes, “Breaking Magic,” premieres on Sunday, November 11 at 10pm on Discovery.

“Breaking Magic” fuses the showmanship and mystery of street magic with the raw power of science. Watch as each trick surprises unsuspecting bystanders with mystifying results. Discovery Channel recruits today’s freshest and most creative magicians to show how science works with shocking tricks including knocking down a wall with the power of one’s voice, turning a sliver bracelet into gold, slowing the speed of a dropping cannonball and many more.

Hidden cameras on the streets of London, Warsaw and New York City capture bystanders completely baffled by these magicians’ unexpected tricks. Immediately following these demonstrations, each magician explains the scientific reality behind each illusion.

Meet our magicians:

Wayne Houchin (United States of America) – Houchin made headlines when he escaped from a straitjacket while hanging 50 feet above an intersection at the age of 16. Since then, Houchin has worked with famed magician, Criss Angel, and co-founded magic site theory11.com – all while breaking world records in magic.

Ben Hanlin (United Kingdom) - Hanlin is one of the youngest members of The Magic Circle and hit U.K. fame with a 2011 appearance on “Britain’s Got Talent.” At only 25 years old, Hanlin continues to stun audiences globally with his amazing skills.

James Galea (Australia) - Galea is an award-winning magician who consistently headlines numerous venues with his magic shows across the world. His high-profile debut to American audiences occurred when he mystified everyone with his 673 King Street routine on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2010.

Billy Kidd (Canada) - one of the few female magicians in the world, Kidd has mastered the art of magic. She was trained under the world famous magician Gazzo and has traveled worldwide to show audiences her unique sense of comedy, personality and slight-of-hand magic tricks.
