The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

“Dishonored” is back with its latest storyline-expanding DLC pack: “The Knife of Dunwall.” The story has you in the role of Daud, the master assassin that murdered the Empress in the main story. However, it seems as though even after making a career of mindlessly assassinating people, Daud actually feels remorse after killing the Empress. The Outsider appears to Daud and tells him that his “story is coming to an end.” The Outsider tells Daud to seek out a person named Delilah.

As Daud, the player is given unique abilities such as the ability to summon assassins to aid him in combat and to imbue his comrades with his abilities. A familiar power, Blink, is still available but very much improved. You can now freeze time at the very top of a jump and plant your next move within that time. Rat Swarm and Possession are not part of Daud’s repertoire, but he makes up for this by having unique weapons such as the Chokedust, which, when thrown, explodes into a cloud of poison which chokes the enemy and allows you to either take the offensive or disappear into hiding. As the leader of the assassins, Daud also has the choice of buying information from informants such as safe codes, whale oil tanks, or even bone charms.

Even though it is only three levels long, The Knife of Dunwall does give the player valuable insight into a very intriguing character. We did not get to uncover much about him during the main story, so it is interesting to hear his thoughts about certain events and how he works as the leader of his band of assassins. In addition, the horrific practices of the whaling industry are shown, which is as interesting as it is repulsive. Enemies within the whaling factory are armed with immense flesh rending saws which can shoot metal at long range.

Each level has multiple ways of tackling it, in true “Dishonored” fashion. Multiple routes provide you with ways of completing a level with low chaos or high chaos. Being an assassin, it may not seem to make sense to leave everyone alive but in order to remain undetected low chaos is essential.

“The Knife of Dunwall” is part one of Daud’s story, and yet it feels like an unfinished game. The DLC is more of “Dishonored’s” great gameplay but the story is mediocre. The end of this episode delivers a watered down twist that is obvious from the beginning.

Rating- 3.8 out of 5 . If anything you should buy this DLC if you crave more “Dishonored” gameplay featuring Daud, wish to know more about the horrific whaling industry or just to see a little more of the enigmatic Outsider. If “The Knife of Dunwall” had been released as a whole, it might have felt more satisfying to play and spend money on. Part two of the DLC (“The Brigmore Witches”) has yet to receive a release date or price. “The Knife of Dunwall” is available on Steam ($9.99 USD), PlayStation 3 ($9.99 USD) and Xbox 360 (800 Microsoft Points).

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

While some gamers may anxiously be waiting for November’s Halo, Hitman and other such popular franchises, October game releases should not be overlooked. These releases include popular franchises such as Resident Evil and Assassin’s Creed.

Action

(10/2) “Resident Evil 6″ (PS3, Xbox 360)

(10/9) “Dishonored” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

(10/16) “007 Legends” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

(10/18) “Transformers: Fall of Cybertron” (Wii, Nintendo DS, 3DS)

(10/19) “Doom 3 BFG Edition” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

(10/23) “Medal of Honor: Warfighter” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

(10/28) “Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask” (3DS)

(10/30) “Lego Lord of the Rings” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, PS Vita, Nintendo DS, 3DS)

(10/31) “Assassin’s Creed 3″ (PS3, Xbox 360)

“Resident Evil 6″ is the twenty-third game in this survivor horror/action game series which allows players to select between three different story lines. A fourth story line is unlocked once the first three are completed. The player is able to play through the scenarios with a friend, either locally or through an online multiplayer setting. A new feature which has been added comes from tablets, which allow players to recover their health. These can be created by finding herbs.

“007 Legends” is a game meant to celebrate the fifty year anniversary of James Bond. A single player campaign was created which will have one mission from each actor’s era. The missions will feature ‘Goldfinger’, ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’, ‘Moonraker’, ‘License to Kill’, and ‘Die Another Day’. The ‘Skyfall’ mission will be released as Download Content. As if that wasn’t enough, some of the original actors from the films added their likeness and voices to the game.

“Lego Lord of the Rings: The Video Game” is the twelfth game in this video game franchise, which is known for its comedic brand of humor, as well as its entertaining cooperative or single player gameplay. However, unlike the other games, LLOTR will take its voice acting and dialogue directly taken from the film trilogy. The game is also an open world game, and will utilize more RPG-like elements.

“Assassin’s Creed 3″ is the fifth game in the main series, and takes place during and after the American Revolution. It also features a new protagonist: half English, half Native American Connor Kenway. The game will feature the “present day” setting, in which the series’ protagonist Desmond Miles will have to prevent the 2012 apocalypse, in which Desmond’s story will finally reach its conclusion.

RPG

(10/7) “Pokemon White 2″ (Nintendo DS)

(10/7) “Pokemon Black 2″ (Nintendo DS)

(10/9) “XCOM: Enemy Unknown” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

(10/9) “Fable: The Journey” (Xbox 360)

“XCOM: Enemy Unknown” is the “reimagined” remake to the 1994 “UFO: Enemy Unknown.” It is thus a return to X-COM series roots, making it differ greatly from the previously announced shooter “XCOM” by 2K Marin. The game has to player command troops through a series of turn-based tactics, such as expanding their base, managing finances, and monitoring alien activities.

“Fable: The Journey” is the fifth game in the Fable series that will be utilizing the Kinect to manipulate magic. By performing gestures with their hands, players will enter a spell-crafting mode which allows them to draw items with their hands and use them as spells. Players will also be able to create spears, shields and hammers to use in defeating enemies.

Racing

(10/23) “Forza Horizon” (Xbox 360)

(10/30) “Need for Speed: Most Wanted” (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, PS Vita)

“Need for Speed: Most Wanted” is the nineteenth game in the Need for Speed series, and will take on the gameplay style of the original “Need for Speed: Most Wanted” released in 2005. Players select a car and compete with other racers; however, in certain races, the police will get involved and try to stop and arrest the player. In the single player section there will be a total of 10 racers to compete against.

Dancing

(10/9) “Just Dance 4″ (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

“Just Dance 4″ is the fourth game in the main series, and the gameplay remains similar to that of the previous games. However, there are some new features, such as a dance battle mode, expansions to the Just Sweat mode, and unlockable routines for songs. Online leaderboards on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will also be available.
