The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

On the 26th of September, the famous Italian fashion brand, Gucci, celebrated its 90th anniversary by opening a museum. A main focus of Gucci’s celebration was to inaugurate the Gucci Museo, located inside the historic Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence’s Piazza Signoria. Gucci Museo is now open to the public.

Among items on display are high-fashion pieces that have brought the company its great success through the years. The featured clothing are accompanied by many modern art installations supported by the Pinault Foundation. The inauguration party attracted around 200 high-profile celebrities.

Among those who attended were Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Magazine, as well as Bill Viola, a famous American artist. According to Gucci.com, The Gucci Museo is divided into thematic rooms — an idea inspired by the House’s iconic motifs and symbols. The exhibition space begins on the ground floor with the theme called Travel.

It presents an exhibit of trunks, suitcases, accessories and articles created for the international elite, which have been collected throughout the years and have brought international appreciation to the brand in the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s. Suitcases and travel accessories are memorable for Gucci.

The fashion line’s founder, Guccio Gucci, designed his first collection after being inspired by the luggage laden clientele upon arriving at London’s Savoy Hotel, where he used to work as a porter in his earlier years. The Gucci Museo also provides a place for people to gather in the Gucci Caffè.

The place is highly recommended on Gucci website as being great attraction, not only for museum visitors to enjoy but also for Florentines and visitors to the city alike. In partnership with Rizzoli Bookstore, the Gucci Museo will be offering publications about art, fashion, photography and architecture, featuring both vintage and contemporary works.

According to the PPR.com, a luxury brand holding company, the Gucci brand is part of the Gucci Group, which is owned by the French company. The PPR owns many leading brands and companies like YSL or Balenciaga. Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini, works to promote the brand’s highly valued products such as leather handbags, accessories, luggage and shoes, silks, timepieces and fine jewellery.

Eyewear and fragrances are made and distributed under license by global leaders in these two sectors. The Gucci brand mixes modernity and innovation with tradition and heritage in an extraordinary way.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Fashion Designer Stella McCartney celebrated her 40th birthday surrounded by her famous friends at a party in London last week. McCarney showed up in a sparkling blue-sequined dress of her own design, her hair pulled back into a simple bun and her skin glowing. The entire look was very modern and elegant.

Stella McCartney is the daughter of famous former Beatles Sir Paul McCartney. She was born and raised in London. Although being only 40 this year, Stella is a well-recognized and honored fashion designer.

Her achievements are in fashion and social awareness and have been proven in the following awards: the Woman of Courage Award for work against cancer at the prestigious Unforgettable Evening event (2003, LA), the Star Honoree at the Fashion Group International Night of the Stars (2004, NY), the Organic Style Woman of the Year Award (2005, NY), the Green Designer of the Year at the ACE Awards (2008, NY) and many others.

In 2009, she was honored by the NRDC, featured in the Time 100 and recognized as a Glamour magazine Woman of the Year. Stella is a lifelong vegetarian and does not use any leather or fur in her designs. Her collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrance and organic skincare.

Recently McCartney has opened 15 freestanding stores in prime locations including Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, London’s Mayfair, LA’s West Hollywood, Paris’ Palais Royal and in Milan, as well as opening doors in Beirut, Las Vegas and Rome. Her collections are now distributed in over 50 countries through 600 wholesale accounts including specialty shops and department stores.

Being a top fashion designer to celebrities, it was no surprise that Stella’s party had an impressive guest list. According to the Daily Mail UK, among the celebrities who accompanied Stella’s birthday fun were model Kate Moss, actress Kate Hudson who arrived with her partner and Muse frontman Matt Bellamy and Gwyneth Paltrow.

One of the guests of honor was Sir Paul McCartney, Stella’s father who arrived with his fiancée Nancy Sheval. Other guests included U2 frontman Bono who showed up with his wife Alison Hewson, actress Jamie Winstone, actor Alfie Allen, singer Sharleen Spiteri and designer Tom Ford.

It wasn’t just Stella who proved that maturing women can still be attractive and stylish. Looking at the photos from Stella’s birthday party available on dailymail.co.uk, beautiful women such as Rachel Weisz said that turning forty was “so not a major milestone.”

The all-night birthday party took place at the Asprey House in Wellington Arch and ended with an after-party at the Groucho Club in Soho according to Daily Mail UK. There may be more partying time in Stella’s McCartney future, because she’s set to show her spring 2012 designs on October 3 during Fashion Week in Paris.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The Jours Après Lunes, a French lingerie brand launched a new line for girls aged 4 to 12 year-old a few weeks ago, which was met with many negative opinions. The collection includes a range of panties, bras and t-shirts with ribbon and lace details. The girls modeling for the line in heavy make-up play with strings of pearls wrapped around their necklines and their hairstyles suggest images of rock stars.

The atmosphere of photos, which feature bare legs and stomachs, are reminiscent of Thylane Blondeau’s shoot who posed with two other girls for Tom Ford in the January 2011 edition of French Vogue.

Thylene Lena-Rose Blondeau is ten years old model from France. She has modeled for Vogue, Lacoste, Dani Brubaker & many moreShe has modeled for Vogue, Lacoste, Dani Brubaker & many moreShe has modeled for Lacoste, Dani Brubakeris and many other brands however her name started to be recognizable after photo shoot for French Vogue were she poses lying on tiger leather, wearing gold dress and high heel shoes.

Thylene is not the only one popular kid model. She entered into the fashion world follows a trend for younger models. Elle Fanning (13 years old) or Haille Steinfeld (14 years old) has both recently signed contracts with Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu. These kinds of actions provoke viewers to ask the question: “Where are the boundaries and where does unhealthy provocation start?”

So far various commentators from fashion world and psychologists have expressed their concern over the obvious sexualization of the young girls and the dangers that can be connected with these kinds of “fashion development.”

“It’s cute when a little girl dresses up in her mom’s clothing and jewelry and high heels,” said Marilisa Racco, author of Le Snob Lingeries to the New York Daily News after she saw photo session released by The Jours Après Lunes. “These pictures are not cute. It’s entirely inappropriate to put a 4-year-old in a bouffant like she’s Brigitte Bardot in And God Created Woman.

It’s inappropriate to sexualize children. A pearl-encrusted triangle bra on a little girl does not sit well with me.” Penny Nance CEO of Concerned Women for America organization criticized Jours Après Lunes, adding that designer Sophie Morin should be ashamed of herself.

“This is a pedophile’s dream,” Nance told The Daily Caller. “Sophie Morin, the lingerie designer, at Jours Après Lunes should be ashamed and French mothers should be outraged and demand a response.” Sophie Morin fends off these attacks on fashionista.com web-blog and expresses her surprise at the publicity over her clothing line.

She says that “The trans-generational mother/daughter aspect of my brand doesn’t offer anything new and is identical to what lots of ready to wear brands offer.” She also explains that “All the photos show children playing children’s games, as we’ve all done. If you look at the details, you’ll often find elements of children’s games: dolls accessories, wooden animals etc.”

The similar negatives comments appeared after Thylene’s Blondeau shoots for Vogue. UK Mothers’ Union organization commented these images in newspaper the Daily Mail, “We have grave concerns about the modelling agency who represents Blondeau, which clearly does not know if it represents a child or an adult.

Photo shoots requiring her, a 10-year-old girl, to dress in full makeup, teetering heels and a dress with a cleavage cut to the waist across her prepubescent body deny Blondeau the right to be the child she is.” Additionally Mothers’ Union chief executive Reg Bailey has been commissioned to arrange an independent review about the pressures faced by children.

He has invited the fashion and advertising industries for discussion in October. Psychologists also comment this social problem. Clinical psychologist of the British CBT & Counselling Service Dr. Emma Gray told the Daily Mail that Thylene’s images published in Vogue present “a child being exposed to a world she is not yet equipped to deal with, solely to serve the needs of the adults around her.

If children are to develop into happy, grounded and psychologically balanced people, their childhood needs to be spent appropriately preparing for the demands of the adult world… Prematurely exposing a child to the adult world is dangerously preventing the completion of their development into a person who can survive it.”

Bloggers also show their disagreement about these images. As a comment for Thylene’s photos one blogger said on Tumblr: ‘This is disgusting. I wonder where the parents of these kids are.’
