The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

On February 17, the company originally responsible for “Halo,” possibly one of the biggest franchises available on Xbox 360, has revealed their new project “Destiny.” A futuristic shooter that seems to be set on a near-apocalyptic setting with humanity attempting recovery while still declining.

Premise:

In an age where humanity once colonize other planets, the Earth home planet suffered from a catastrophe known only as “The Collapse,” which decimated the human population until only a small fraction of it remained. The mysterious appearance of a massive spherical structure known as “The Traveler” prevented the extinction of humankind and gave a place to rebuild right beneath where it lays floating on top of the Earth. Once humanity started to explore the outskirts of the planet again, they discovered they were not alone, hostile and unknown creatures have now become present on the edges of civilization. The player is placed into the game as a soldier able to wield some of The Traveler’s power to defend the city and reclaim what humanity has lost. (Click here to watch the recently released ViDoc revealing the project.)

Rumors/ Expected Gameplay Elements:

Not much about the game has been released, only a few concept art videos with what to expect on this year’s E3 and few rumors about what the game will do differently than other games in the bungie repertoire. So far, the people we have been able to talk to seem to be thinking of this game as another “Halo” project or “Halo-like” game, but from what little info available, it is pretty evident that Bungie is aiming in an entirely new direction, even if some successful “Halo” elements are borrowed and implemented to “Destiny.”

The following quote comes from an article published by Gamespot on February 15, 2013.

“According to the documentation, Destiny will be a first-person shooter set in an “always-connected” universe that allows gamers to create a character and earn customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.”

In the ViDoc we see some of the developers tweaking with a few Iphone apps that allow the player to stay communicated with the gaming community they’ve created exclusively for Destiny; it is apparent that Bungie isn’t just building a game, they are attempting to build an entirely new experience for their players. Bungie’s 10-year publishing year with Activision is evidence of that, we can not assert that this deal means continuos updates to heighten the player experience and keep us hooked, but judging by the fact that some developers have stated things such as”

“We’re building something alive, it has a nature that we don’t totally control, things are gonna happen that we don’t plan and that’s amazing” (heard on ViDoc)

It seem comfortable enough to speculate that somehow, Bungie will manage to make this new universe feel fluid, alive and connected for all of their players. I am curious to know whether it will be a single player campaign with a multiplayer or if they will break away from that traditional structure and somehow merge the two into a more fluid mechanic, if someone can pull a move like that, it is definitely Bungie.

Those who are loyal to Bungie should be very excited for the turnout of this project, from what little information is available it looks like it could be a promising title that any gamer should consider picking up.

An official release date is yet to be announced, but it is rumored to be in 2014.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The following is a list of games that will be released in June of 2012 with their respective dates and console releases. The games coming out in June of this year vary from several re-releases to a couple movie tie-in games to some unique original projects which have the potential of becoming some of the hottest games of the year! It will be interesting to see which of these games will last the span of time or fall into the abyss shortly after their release.

Action

6/5- Madagascar 3: The Video Game (Nintendo Wii, DS, 3DS, PS3, Xbox 360)

6/10- Pinkmin 2 Selects (Nintendo Wii)

6/12- 4 in 1 Action Pack (PS3)

6/12- Gravity Rush (PS Vita)

6/12- iCarly: Groovy Foodie (DS)

6/12- Lollipop Chainsaw (PS3, Xbox 360)

6/12- Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection (PS Vita)

6/12- Phantom Breaker (Xbox 360)

6/19- Disney Pixar Brave: The Video Game (PC, Nintendo Wii, DS, PS3, Xbox 360)

6/19- Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Nintendo Wii, DS, 3DS, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360)

6/19- Steel Battalion Heavy Armor (Xbox 360 Kinect)

6/26- The Amazing Spider-Man (Nintendo Wii, DS, 3DS, PS3, Xbox 360)

‘Pinkmin 2 Selects’ is a re-re-release of the popular Nintendo classic and is a greatest hits release of the re-release of ‘Pinkmin 2′ for the Wii.

‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ is a new take on the zombie “beat ‘em up” genre, led by SUDA 51. The story, written by James Gunn (Dawn of the Dead), is about Juliet Starling fighting off hoards of zombies at her school, San Romero High, with the living head of her boyfriend. The GameStop pre-order exclusive includes the alternate costume Ashley Williams from the Evil Dead Series.

Just like the PS3 and Xbox 360 release, the ‘Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection’ is a high-definition remake of Metal Gears 2 and 3 for the PS Vita.

‘Lego Batman 2′ is a sequel to the popular Lego Batman game, but this time, players have the opportunity to play as other DC super heroes, as players fight off minions of the Joker and Lex Luthor and, like the other games in the Lego series, players have the option to drop in and out for co-op play.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is a return to the Spider-Man movie tie-in games, and like the movie it is based on, this is going to be an attempt to revive the series after the abysmal failure that was Spider-Man 3 the movie/game as well as the lack luster standalone Spider-Man games.

RPG

6/1- End of Nations (PC)

6/12- Gungnir (PSP)

6/18- Pokemon Conquest (DS)

6/19- Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gods and Kings Expansion (PC)

6/19- The Secret World (PC)

6/26- Guild Wars 2 (PC)

6/26- Record of Agarest War 2 (PS3)

‘Pokemon Conquest’ takes Pokemon battles and adds a new twist to it. Instead of the turn-based combat in a typical Pokemon game, it now has a tactical RPG combat system, where the player controls his team of Pokemons on a battlefield while defeating other warlords and having them join your party in conquest of the Pokemon Kingdom.

‘The Secret World’ is a very unique MMO that has done something almost no MMO has ever done. ‘The Secret World’ takes place in the modern world and is based on every myth, legend, and conspiracy that exists in this world. Players are thrown into the game with a clean slate. You play the game the way you want; there are no classes or leveling in the game. Players make their own decisions on what their characters will become, and they can choose the abilities that they want. This is definitely one of the more unique MMOs to come out this year.

‘Guild Wars 2′ is the long awaited sequel to the MMO ‘Guild Wars’. ‘Guild Wars 2′ features dynamic events that change as time progresses, and the events the players participate in affect other events in the game. The series also introduces a new, more action-based combat system to bring in more rapid-paced, intense action.

Shooter

6/1- Inversion (PS3, Xbox 360)

6/1- Max Payne 3 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

6/12- Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier (PC)

6/26- Spec Ops: The Line (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

‘Max Payne 3′ is the very long awaited sequel to the Max Payne series. The game focuses on a new shooting mechanic for more precision gun play and also revamps the famous bullet time as seen in the original Max Payne series. ‘Max Payne 3′ also features a multiplayer mode that features the combat system and cinematic feel of the single player game and the traditional modes of the average multiplayer mode. ‘Max Payne 3′ is a new perspective on the original Rockstar series for the PS2 and Xbox.

‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier’ is a continuation of the Ghost Recon series. There are several different modes in the new Ghost Recon series, such as co-op with up to three other players, PvP mode, and Guerrilla mode (players and teammates fight waves of enemies). The game also introduces Gunsmith mode, in which the player customizes all their weapons for an increase in game customization.

‘Spec Ops: The Line’ is a third person shooter that will attempt to give players a truly brutal war experience. As the player leads their delta squad through the remains of a destroyed Dubai, the players will be thrown into a unique battle zone of sand, sand, and more sand. This detailed focus on the in-game sand mechanics offers a very unique experience in desert combat. Players will be fighting their way through gunfights that take place through intense sandstorms as well as sand avalanches. This is indeed true desert combat at its core.

Sports

6/12- DiRT Showdown (PS3, Xbox360)

6/26- Summer Stars 2012 (Nintendo Wii)

Simulation

6/5- Sims 3 Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats Pack (PC)

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Las Vegas, U.S.A.- Fourteen years later, and Tiger Jam has yet to skip a beat! This past Saturday, Tiger Jam 2012 again rocked the Las Vegas strip, bringing host Tiger Woods and talents including Jon Bon Jovi and Friends and American Idol winner David Cook to the stage for an incredible performance. Held at the renowned Mandalay Bay Events Center, the sold-out concert and accompanying attractions raised approximately $1 million for programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation.

Kicking off the weekend, VIP Tiger Jam guests were treated to a day of golf at Cascata Golf Club, which included a private exhibition with Woods followed by a round of golf. Next, guests went head-to-head for an exclusive night of poker, competing against some of the game’s biggest names.

Tiger’s Poker Night, held Friday, April 27, featured such legends as Phil Hellmuth, Jr., who emceed the event and took second place; Ben Lamb who finished fourth; and Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson, won first place. Proceeds from the Texas Hold ‘em style charity poker tournament went directly to the college-access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation, while the winner of the tournament received a foursome of golf with Tiger Woods. Following poker, VIP guests gathered at Moorea Beach Club for a performance from The Bravery.

On Saturday, headliners Jon Bon Jovi and Friends took the stage, delivering a rocking performance that included some of Jon’s greatest hits such as: Livin’ on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name and Wanted Dead or Alive. Opening the show was singer, songwriter and American Idol season seven winner David Cook.

Live and silent auctions preceded Saturday night’s event. VIP guests mixed and mingled over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Tiger Jam reception. During the live auction, a Lindsey Vonn skiing weekend package that included a skiing lesson from the Olympian, went for $20,000; a Maui Jim Fishing Excursion went for $10,000; a getaway to Turtle Island, Fiji raised $19,000; and the Ultimate Gastronomic Golf Getaway With Mario Batali in NYC, went to the highest bidder for $10,000.

After the main concert event, guests returned to the House of Blues for the after-party hosted by M.C. Hammer.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Larry g(ee) recently debuted his soulful EP, entitled Weekends. Produced by Beau Patrick Bedford, Weekends is a solid collection of four songs, including the popular single, “Yo Mama”, along with “I’m You’re Fool,” “Camera Phone,” and “Game.” Backed by a stellar band with more than a dozen members, Weekends is an extraordinary first EP that showcases Larry g(ee)’s talent.

Toonari Post had the chance to catch up with the Dallas, Texas singer to talk about his signature music and where his influences come from.

TP: How would you describe your music? What kind of genre do you think it falls under?

LG: I’d have to say soul/indie pop band.

TP: How did you get started as a musician?

LG: In 2004, I started out singing in various coffee shops, clothing boutiques, and open mic nights in Dallas, during a very short singer songwriter phase.

TP: When did you know that you wanted to pursue music professionally?

LG: It was after I had been let go by a longtime employer, I worked in retail. It was one of those “you don’t have anything to lose just go for it moments”, and I haven’t looked back ever since.

TP: Where do you get your inspiration to write music?

LG: Personal experiences definitely.

TP: How long did it take to write and record Weekends?

LG: The songs were written in a span of 3 to 4 months, but the process of getting the album recorded and made, I’d say a year.

TP: You have a large band backing you up on your songs, how did you form the band? Have you known them for a long time, or is your relationship with them new?

LG: The producer of the album and good friend, Beau Bedford, works with a number of musicians in town. As soon as we laid down the scratch tracks he knew exactly who to reach out to. He’s got a great circle of musicians that he works with but it’s totally attributed to how talented Beau really is. I’m blessed to have worked with him. Some of the other artists on this album are friends who donated their free time to help out. It’s been a beautiful experience. My time spent with the band has developed into good friendship over the past year.

TP: What artists would you like to collaborate with in the future?

LG: Mostly producers, Salaam Remi, Mark Ronson, Pharrell, Mike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt.

TP: Where do you see yourself in five years from now?

LG: Touring in the states and overseas.

TP: What artists are you currently listening to?

LG: The Weekend,Curtis Mayfield, Kings Go Forth, ASAP Rocky, Allen Stone, it’s kind of all over the place.
