The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

A chupacabra was allegedly shot and killed in Texas by a 13-year old boy. The chupacabra is a mythical creature originally found in Puerto Rico. Sighting of the creature have been reported in Mexico and the Southwest United States. The chupacabra sucks the blood of livestock, especially goats. The descriptions of the chupacabra vary greatly but usually is a hairless four-legged creature.

According to a local television station in Texas, Carter Pope spotted a strange animal walking across a field. He called for his father and grabbed his gun, firing three shots. He killed the animal, who some believe is a sick coyote.

“It just walked across and started shaking, slowly moving across. No hair on it at all, the back legs were shriveled up, and I honestly think it was a chupacabra,” Pope told KSDK, the local station. Carter and his father collected hair and skin samples from the animal, and will get them tested to see if what the animal is.

Earlier this month, retired wildlife biologist Jack Crabtree and his wife spotted a similar hairless creature wandering by a creek at the back of their house in Lake Jackson, Texas. Despite the strange creature, Crabtree does not believe the creature was a chupacabra. “It was immediately clear to me it was a coyote with a severe case of mange,” said Crabtree, a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

“It was obviously sick.” Crabtree sent the pictures that he and his wife took to the local newspaper jokingly. The newspaper did not take it as a joke and published the picture on the front page with a headline about chupacabra. “I’ve been amazed with the fascination people have with chupacabras and other mythical animals,” he said. “I’m really not a believer in chupacabras or Bigfoot or the Abominable Snowman.”

Another potential spotting was ruined recently when testing showed that an animal shot in Nelson County, Kentucky was nothing more than a hairless raccoon.
