The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Windsor, England – Collecting fast food coupons helps you, not only to save money, but also to reduce the time you spend in the kitchen, by offering your family a tasty and healthy restaurant dinner.

Do Fast Food Coupons and Healthy Eating Go Well Together?

More and more people became aware of the negative effect an inadequate diet has on their health. As a direct result, they began to drop fast food in a dramatic proportion, and this affected the business of the great restaurant chains in a negative way. However, many of the restaurants got back on track by including healthy foods in their menu, and offering discount coupons for them.

For instance, with the help of the KFC coupons, you can order a healthy portion of grilled skinless chicken breast instead of the popular, but calories rich, fried chicken legs or wings.

Another measure taken by the fast food chains in order to attract people who are fond of low calories products was to instruct their employees to offer information on the content of different sauces and salad dressings. This way, the customers know exactly what they order and how good the respective dish is for their health.

Besides introducing healthier specialties in their menu, the fast food restaurants turned their attention towards families with children that prefer to go out for dinner.

One of the measures these companies took was to use freshly baked pastries for the burgers and sandwiches, instead of the frozen ones. Besides, the offer of fresh fruit pies and cakes enriched considerably, so the parents have several healthy alternatives for the ice creams and other highly processed deserts that their children used to eat in such locations.

In the light of these facts, collecting local fast food coupons or those offered by the great restaurants chains is a way to ensure your whole family a complete restaurant meal, but also to teach your kids some things about healthy food.

The coupons are available for all kind of products, from appetizers to desserts and beverages, and, of course, for a wide range of soups and main courses. By collecting restaurant coupons for all the mentioned categories, you can enjoy a delicious meal at a really affordable price.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Now everyone knows that you should eat healthy in order to be a healthy person however, but here is another reason; to improve your video gaming abilities. There being various different types of games which would mean that you require different types of food. This can apply to puzzle-based games, strategy games, first-person shooters, and more.

One of these types of food is fish, which greatly enhances your brainpower. Fish is a good source of protein that is filled with omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids assist in brain functioning and can also lower the risk of having dementia or a stroke. Thus fish plays a large role in slowing mental decline and enhancing memory however; you will need to eat three servings per week to receive these benefits. If you ever find yourself playing a game with memory based puzzles or an RPG where you need to remember all your quests, then you might want to eat something that’s pretty fishy.

Another type of food which will increase your brainpower is bananas, which have been shown to enhance memory. Furthermore, they contain vitamin B6, which helps in the body’s production of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. All of these improve your concentration. If you play fast-paced first-person shooters or stealth games then you should definitely go bananas.

Spinach is also sure to improve your mind, since the minerals in it have been proven to improve concentration. A regular consumption of spinach has also been linked to a reduced risk for brain deterioration and memory diseases such as Alzheimer’s. It is full of vitamins such as magnesium and vitamin B12, which both play an important role in the creation of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the brain. This will keep your brain thinking quickly in games which might be timed such as racing games or battle games when you are competing against friends. In either case, this is a vegetable that is sure to make you stronger.

However, if you want to get a bit of a workout from your videos games and decide to play the Wii or Kinect then you’re going to need the right meal to help keep you from getting tired too fast. Unlike the other video games where you are stationary, it is important in cardio based games to watch what you eat.

For example, if you plan on playing these stimulating games and eat two or three hours before you play, then you should eat a meal in the 300-400 calorie range. The best kind of meal would be a lean protein with veggies or a fruit and nut bar with a small serving of yogurt. If you plan on working out one or two hours before you play an active game you should eat a snack under 200 calories. A bowl of cereal or trail mix would be ideal.

If you would rather not have to wait too long to play your entertaining games and plan to eat 15 or 30 minutes before you play, then it is recommended that you eat about 25 grams of carbs. Snacks that would fit into this category would be some raisins, saltine crackers, or applesauce.

However, if you don’t have any time to wait and have to play the game immediately, then you should have a snack that is about 15 grams of carbs: seven to nine jellybeans or one slice of white bread.

If you are interested in researching this for yourself, all this information can be found here.

Even though people do not generally eat healthy to help their gaming capabilities perhaps this will give people just another good reason to eat healthy. In fact, a majority of the time people expect video games to be a detriment to a fit human being. However, maybe video games will give people a good reason to continue trying to become healthier.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

For the first time, hungry celebrities attending the 2012 Sundance Film Festival had the chance to nosh on offerings from Udi’s Gluten Free Foods. Throughout the event, festival attendees were greeted with Udi’s goodies, including bread, bagels, granola and more with zero gluten and the 100 percent high-quality taste Hollywood’s elite expect.

Many of the television, music and movie stars who stopped by the booth were already familiar with Udi’s products and most importantly, the reality of living gluten free. At the red carpet for the Creative Coalition’s Annual Spotlight Initiative Awards Gala Dinner, honoree Annalynne McCord revealed that she recently discovered her own gluten intolerance and the need to make dietary adjustments.

The actress was thrilled to learn that the entire dinner was being sponsored by Udi’s Gluten Free Foods and prepared using gluten free ingredients, including Udi’s Gluten Free Pizza Crusts and White Bread. As with other healthy eating movements, celebrities are known for being early adopters and trend-setters.

“Based on our experience at Sundance, it’s safe to say that the entertainment industry is ahead of the curve in terms of awareness of gluten free foods and the medical and non-medical reasons for eating gluten free,” said Denise Sirovatka, vice president of marketing. “We feel fortunate to have met so many vocal, Hollywood influencers, and Udi’s is committed to helping them and their fans live a happy, gluten free lifestyle.”

During the festival, famous faces, including Elizabeth Olsen, Emily Blunt, James Marsden, William H. Macy, Ice T, Lil Jon and many more, sank their teeth into Udi’s delicious gluten free offerings. Eager to share their love for the brand, one actress even requested that Udi’s send products to the set of her hit TV show.

The decision to participate in the flurry of activity in Park City during the annual Sundance Film Festival was an easy one for Udi’s leadership once the festival theme, “Look Again,” was announced. Whether consumers have never gone gluten free before, or they haven’t yet found the fun in living gluten free, Udi’s is on a perpetual mission to encourage consumers to “look again” at how great life without gluten can be.

Going gluten free — whether mandated by a medical condition or by choice — has become a major trend among consumers and in the food industry. Shoppers are buying more gluten free products — like Udi’s foods available at grocery stores across the country — and restaurants are adding more gluten free options to menus.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

HealthyWomen, the nation’s leading nonprofit health information source for women, and Allrecipes, the world’s number one digital food brand, joined forces to survey home cooks about their healthy eating habits and, in particular, fast food consumption.

Findings from the 1,563 persons polled, who were largely female, showed more than 56 percent ate at fast food restaurants at least several times a month. Among those, nearly 15 percent ate fast food two or more times a week. As consumers ponder their New Year’s resolutions, cutting back on fast food meals is one way to reduce weight and improve health.

“The majority of respondents, 75 percent, say they pay more attention to eating healthy now than they did five years ago,” said Elizabeth Battaglino Cahill, RN, executive director of HealthyWomen. “Unfortunately, the quick stops at fast food restaurants often sabotage their efforts.”

Indeed, the majority of respondents (54 percent) admitted they feel “a bit guilty” after eating fast food and another 16 percent say they just feel “bad.”

So why stop at the fast-food drive thru? Half of the survey’s respondents said convenience to accommodate busy schedules and faster meal availability were the top reasons for eating fast food instead of cooking at home. To skip a fast food meal and instead cook a healthy meal at home, 83 percent said it would have to be prepared in 30 minutes or less.

Nearly half of survey respondents (47 percent) report the most challenging aspect of eating healthy is finding recipes that are healthy, affordable, and easy to make. Finding recipes that are flavorful and healthy is the biggest challenge cited by nearly one-third.

The study was conducted November 8-14, 2011, among 1,563 Allrecipes community members. Visit Allrecipes’ Fresh Bites blog to read a complete survey overview in the January issue of Allrecipes’ Measuring Cup Consumer Trends Report.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

According to a study published by the National Institutes of Health conducted by doctors at the University of Michigan, one in two women of childbearing age in the United States is considered overweight or obese.

Weight-related complications during pregnancy are commonplace and healthcare providers are trying to dismiss the idea that pregnant women need to “eat for two” by doubling their caloric intake. Working with a healthcare provider, overweight women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant can find a strategy to a healthy weight gain that works for them.

Increased risk of developing gestational diabetes is a crucial reason for overweight women to closely monitor how much weight they gain during pregnancy. Gestation diabetes causes the hormones released from the placenta, the baby’s support system, to be blocked by the woman’s body.

The result is that her body is unable to process insulin. High blood glucose levels build in the mother’s system and stream to the baby through the placenta causing the baby to grow rapidly and gain unnecessary weight.

Overweight pregnant women are also at risk of developing high blood pressure. This condition tightens the blood vessels in the uterus that supplies the baby with oxygen and nutrients. It also puts the mother at risk for having a heart attack or stroke resulting in a greater likelihood that she will deliver her baby early.

Having regular checkups before becoming pregnant may help prevent obesity related complication during pregnancy. The March of Dimes recommends, “If you’re overweight or obese, your health care provider or a registered dietitian can help you lose pounds so that you reach a healthier weight before trying to get pregnant. They will talk with you about exercise and eating healthy.”

What is the correct amount of weight gain? The amount a woman’s health care provider recommends will depend on her pre-pregnancy weight. If she has a normal weight and a body mass index (BMI) in the normal range (between 18.5 and 25) then she should gain between 25 and 35 pounds.

Underweight women, with a BMI less than 18.5, should try to gain between 28 to 40 pounds. Overweight women, with a BMI between 25 and 29.9, should gain between 15 to 25 pounds and obese women, those with a BMI greater than 30, should limit their weight gain to between 11 and 20 pounds.

Women who are overweight or obese should not intentionally try to lose weight while they are pregnant however it is not uncommon for plus-sized women to lose weight while pregnant without dieting. Morning sickness can contribute to weight loss because its diminished affect on appetite and associated vomiting can cause a loss of calories.

Even so, a developing baby will still get nourishment if a mother is not dieting because overweight women have an extra reserve of calories stored in fat.

Healthy eating should be a goal of every pregnant woman, regardless of her pre-pregnancy weight. Setting a goal for how much weigh to gain with a health care provider is the key to ensuring a successful, healthy pregnancy.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Despite our greatest effort, the ultimate recipe for a perfect healthy body does not exist. All people are different and we have to realize that we cannot expect to all fit model sizes. Due to our various body types, this would simply be impossible. Additionally, if you are unhappy about your weight, it is not worth starving yourself either. For the healthy body, we need to eat right and it means learning how to combine your foods – not to stay away from it. This also means realizing that some types of diets are healthy for some but not for others. Lots of vegetables can be great for one person – but bad for the next and the same goes for proteins. You have to figure out how your metabolism works before you can really know what type of diet suits your system.

The nutritionist Maria Ramos gives us these ten advices for eating better:

Don´t be a shopaholic at the supermarket: Keeping a varied diet is not the same as buying one of everything. Variety comes from choosing the healthier options and making sure that you do not end up eating the same stuff every day. You don’t have to turn your back on foods. You can still eat healthy if you simply eat appropriate portions and eat frequently.

You have to eat at least five pieces of fruit or vegetables per day: Fresh or boiled, they will provide you with the vitamins, minerals and fibers you will need every day.

Try to eat cereals every day: Restricting your carbon hydrate intake is not healthy for your body as it is the fuel you work on. Bread, rice and pasta give us all the energy we need.

Legumes in the dish: chickpeas, lentils and so on have an extraordinary positive effect on our internal system. We should eat them several times a week.

You have to drink 1.5 liter of water per day: We are made of 60% water and to keep this balance, you need a daily intake of liquids. Fresh juices, teas, or just water are the best options while it should be said that soda and other fizzy drinks do not count.

You have to choose the fats properly: Animal fats are good but rich in saturated fatty acids and cholesterol, so you should eat them in moderations. The best fats come from olive oil, linos, fish, nuts and dried fruits.

Learn how to cook properly: When we roast or fry the food it has a tendency to break down the nutrients in the food. It is often better to cook at low temperatures and spare the oil. Using and oven or a steamer is also very good alternatives. This will also keep the flavor of our food.

Avoid fast foods: This type of diet usually has a lot of additives to conserve the food and help it to be ready in a few seconds. You have to think that you can prepare a better meal in the same time.

Eat fish: Three times per week would be ideal. However, watch out for salmon, tuna and sword fish because these types sometimes contain toxic agents so eat in moderations.

Keep an eye on your weight: The appropriate weight is the result of eating healthy and doing exercise. Rapid weight loss can be dangerous.
