The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The Ghostbusters are gone, spirited away by some dastardly demons from another dimension. But spectral shenanigans haven’t ceased in the city that never sleeps, meaning a new group will need to step up and don the proton packs. IDW Publishing and Sony Pictures Consumer Products have announced the launch of an all-new Ghostbusters ongoing comic series, picking up where the first mega-hit ongoing volume left off. The Ghostbusters creative super-team of Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening (along with series colorist-extraordinaire Luis Antonio Delgado) return to bust out more ectoplasmic excitement in this second ongoing volume.

“We’ve seen the Ghostbusters deal with a newly minted servant of Gozer, a child-possessing demon, the Spirit of Death, a cross-country road trip and sloppy business rivals,” explained writer Burnham. “But we’ve never seen what might happen if something got the jump on them. This story takes a look at what might happen if the Ghostbusters were abducted. The city still needs paranormal exterminators, after all.”

Ghostbusters #1 marks the exciting beginning of “The New Ghostbusters” storyline, and will include four covers by Schoening, each featuring one of the New Ghostbusters. Additionally, each issue will contain an all-new Real Ghostbusters 2-page back-up story written and drawn by Burnham. Kicking off in February, will the New Ghostbusters be able to rescue their predecessors, or will they share the same fate?

“Editing the Ghostbusters ongoing series for IDW has been the highlight of my editorial career,” said series editor Tom Waltz. “Way back when we started, we prayed we’d be able to finish four issues. And now, sixteen issues in the can and a new ongoing volume ready to rock the world, I’m proud to say Ghostbusters has proven to be a tremendous success for IDW, and that’s completely owed to our awesome fans and the super-powered creative team concocting comic book magic month after month!”

Fans of the series should ask their local comic book shop about the variant Xermanico cover, and the unique variant tribute cover by Schoening, only for loyal subscription box customers.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

IDW has announced not only a new creative team on their flagship G.I. Joe comic, but also an exciting new era for the beloved heroes based on the iconic Hasbro brand.

Beginning in February with G.I. Joe #1, the anti-terrorist titans will be up against a new threat: publicity. With their formerly secret identities compromised, Duke must lead his squad of Real American Heroes up against the legendarily evil COBRA in the public eye. Written by Fred Van Lente (The Comic Book History of Comics, The Incredible Hercules) with art by Steve Kurth (Ultimate Iron Man, Avengers Vs. X-Men: Consequences), the all-new G.I. Joe is an explosive turning point for those following the Joes ongoing adventures and a perfect jumping-on point for new fans to join the action.

“As a longtime G.I. Joe fan it’s very exciting to be able to launch the series in a bold new direction, with a new status quo that develops organically from events in the current ongoing series,” said Van Lente. “In the first arc, Homefront, the G.I. Joe team gets a new (but familiar) commanding officer, a new (and unfamiliar) public role — and discover that Cobra has brought their war to America in a major way for the first time. We hit the ground running with all-out combat on U.S. soil,” he continued.

This new spin on America’s classic fighting force is also an exciting opportunity for the book’s explosive artist, “It’s G.I. Joe with a superhero spin. This is the G.I. Joe comic I’ve wanted to make for 10 years and the one I’ve wanted to read for 20!” said Kurth.

If all of that weren’t enough, fans will also be treated to eye-melting covers by Juan Doe, Steve Kurth, and Jamal Igle, and a special G.I. Joe “comics history” cover by Van Lente’s The Comic Book History of Comics co-conspirator Ryan Dunlavey. This relaunch also comes with a special treat for the G.I. Joe super fans in the form of a suitably bombastic subscription variant cover by legendary artist Arthur Adams.

It’s a very exciting time to be a G.I. Joe fan, and IDW couldn’t be happier to help rid the world of the COBRA menace.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

IDW is thrilled to announce The Hollows, a new, creator-owned miniseries from Chris Ryall (Zombies vs. Robots, KISS) and Sam Kieth (The MAXX, Arkham Asylum: Madness).

To combat the catastrophic death of a decaying Japan, survivors create genetically engineered supertrees—wooden leviathans capable of supporting entire cities suspended above the radioactive wastes below. Traveling via jetpacks to stay above the toxic air below, the survivors must also band together against the Hollows, irradiated husks whose humanity has been supplanted by an unquenchable desire to consume human energy.

“The Hollows began as a more straightforward tale,” said Chris Ryall, also IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief, “until Sam and I remembered that neither of us really tell straightforward tales. So the desolate setting for the story is really just the backdrop for a more personal tale of love, loss, redemption, faith, flight, and past versus future, all wrapped up and bound to the archaic flying suit of our protagonist, a beleaguered scientist/explorer named Kobayashi who ventures down from his city-state and finds something entirely unexpected. Along with a little scene- and heart-stealing creature called Urp, too.”

The Hollows is the premiere of a wildly original new world realized in the vivid, expressive tones that can only emanate from Sam Kieth’s hands. Planned for four issues, The Hollows has been in the works between Ryall and Kieth for some time now.

“Well for me it was started visually… it stops short of having the heart of a true fantasy story, stops just shy of steampunk. It’s soft sci-fi at best, and the ghostly hollows provide a bit of horror too,” said Kieth. “Reading over Chris’s wonderful script, The Hollows seems to floats effortlessly through all of these genres. Maybe a cross between City of Lost Children and Brazil; hard to pigeonhole.”

A unique, mysterious take on the post-apocalyptic yarn, The Hollows is sure to fly off the shelves like so many of its winged denizens, so don’t miss out this December.

The Hollows #1 (of 4) is 32 pages, full color, and will be in stores 12/19/12.
