The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

After bursting onto the indie rock scene in 2003 with their first album ‘Forever to Tell’, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs haven’t looked back as they electrified fans with their sophomore album ‘Show Your Bones’ in 2006 and then came back in two years later with their ‘Is Is’ EP. In 2009 the band debuted a new sound with the album ‘It’s Blitz!’, and now they are back with their fourth studio album titled ‘Mosquito’. However, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ experimental new sounds have split fans down the middle where people either love it or hate it to such a degree, that even the cover of the album itself has caused controversy. Some fans and critics have dubbed the cover the worst of 2013.

Cover aside, the album has done well on the charts. Released on April 16, ‘Mosquito’ entered the Billboard 200 at number five with 38,000 copies sold in its first week, earning the band their first top ten album on the chart. The album debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 9,150 copies, becoming the band’s third consecutive top ten album.

Compared to their previous albums, ‘Mosquito’ is a characteristic composition with a highlight on songs that experiment with the bizarre. At first listen, most of the songs grab you and make you curious to come back again. The album starts off on a high note with “Sacrilege.” The first single make initial indications of a change in the band’s sound with gospel choirs thrown into the mix at the end, creating a somewhat dramatic ending that the song did not need. Likewise, “Subway” was not in itself a bad song, it was just hard to get through, as it was too long and boring as it dragged on.

The rest of the album makes listening to “Subway” worth the trouble as it continues the liveliness and diversity that “Sacrilege” makes a start at. Most memorable are “Mosquito,” where the band appears to be having fun, and “Area 52″ whose comedic lyrics make for some hints of self-parody. The James Murphy-produced track “Buried Alive” with a guest chorus from Dr. Octagon, a fictional character created by rapper Kool Keith, fits perfectly with the rest of the tracks, despite initial skepticism. “Always” is a romantic ballad with a sequel in the end track “Wedding Song,” rumoured to be the follow-up to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs now legendary love song, “Maps.” These songs provide the album with a strange sense of closeness and familiarity, as the backstory is that Karen O performed it at her wedding to Barney Clay.

Overall ‘Mosquito’ has a listenability that grows on you and gets better with every listen. Yeah Yeah Yeahs move through styles and textures and have managed to capture a sound with an appeal outside of its genre. The album is somewhat choppy though as it moves from song to song but the band’s creativeness minimizes the negative impact in our opinion. ‘Mosquito’ is bizarrely beautiful and eccentric and will continue to be a highly debated album among Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ fanbase.

Review verdict: 4/5

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Under The Influence is an intriguing emerging rock band from Cleveland, Ohio, co-founded by Brent Beiling and Anthony DeSalvo. With their music, which mixes different styles of rock such as punk and psychedelic rock, the Under The Influence’s members are trying to give a new shape to youngsters’ angst.

The project is a serious one, with the band members focused on the development of their sound and general expression. Blending the evergreen feeling of angst towards an unfair world belonging to most outcasts, with the technical sonorities pertaining to psychedelic rock, Under The Influence manages to be part of a fresh wave of rock and roll.

The band is going to release their debut album on August 30. Toonari Post had the chance to interview vocalist and guitarist Brent Beiling, for an insight into Under The Influence’s promising idea.

Toonari Post (TP): What is the force that drove you to undertake this music project? What is the core of your project, what do you want to say with your music?

Brent Beiling (BB): This musical project started off as Anthony (lead guitarist and co-songwriter) and me working on material together and coming up with enough songs to start a band. We have been writing together since we were 17, and we have been in a couple of bands together before.

This was the first musical project in which the genesis of the band was exactly what we wanted to happen. It was the sound we had in our heads when we would sit down with acoustic guitars and crank out melodies and chord progressions. Those days were the true roots and core of “Under the Influence.” We want people to decipher for themselves what our music means to them. If we were to tell you, then it wouldn’t be open for interpretation (which any good art always is).

TP: You defined your style as Punkedelic, due to its rock styles mixture. As the word Punkadelic is nowadays used to define different musical approaches, including a particular kind of electronic music, would you mind clarifying the characteristics of your own style for our readers?

BB: Our music has always derived and been rooted in punk rock. We just play what we want and put a lot of passion into it. As we started maturing as musicians though, we started getting more into heavy and psychedelic music. “Punkadelic” is the blend of punk rock, heavy, and psychedelic music accented with pure pop melodies. I mean it’s really just an idea that we haven’t been able to fully transfer onto our album completely how we had envisioned it, but a few songs like “Jesus Will Return On Halloween,” “Common Enemy,” “The Intro” and “Lucifer Satan Devil” [listen to some of the songs here] will give you a little preemptive taste of what we eventually want to do. As long as our fans are enjoying our music, that’s really all that matters to us.

TP: As said, the concept of your sound develops from punk. Would you say that the main presence of punk can be found in the attitude, while the sonorities are cleaner and develop also towards other directions, such as progressive and psychedelic rock?

BB: We’ve always been pissed off about things. Young people in general are supposed to question the world that they are growing up in, and help to change it for the better. So yes, our attitude about a lot of social and political issues derives from a punk rock type of attitude.

We don’t want to be a punk rock band, we just acknowledge that aspect of our music frequently enough so that people are getting that it is something against the grain of mainstream priorities within commercial rock bands. Not many of them have much to say about what’s going on in the country right now. Even though our musical tastes are maturing somewhat into more progressive, psychedelic, and pop music, we still, and will always, have our anti-establishment attitude. It’s our duty as young people.

TP: Who or what are your main influences?

BB: Our main influences are The Beatles, Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Simeon Soul Charger, Smashing Pumpkins, Mr. Gnome. We have many more but those are our favorite bands at the current point.

TP: How is it to move within the underground scene, or what is left of it, nowadays?

BB: We are still very much so outcast within the underground scene. We have had some exposure in the Cleveland and Akron scene, but we are still trying to focus on writing music and getting our sound together before we start to tour extensively. I tour much by myself and play acoustic shows to promote the band. Our goals are to eventually get signed to an indie label and go on tour.

TP: What are your future projects besides the album release in August?

BB: Our future plans are just to play as many shows while we can. We are hungry for the stage and we really want to show people what we can do. We really don’t have any aspirations of becoming big rock-stars or anything like that; we just want to have a little slice of paradise within the slums of the underground while we are young. We want to express our anger and angst while we have the chance. We are conversing with a couple A&R people at certain independent labels so we might have a chance to do just that. So watch out for us! We might just make some noise in the underground scene.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Macy Gray, newly signed with 429 Records, is preparing for the release of her stunning new album “Covered”—a collection of all new recordings of handpicked songs she’s chosen to reinterpret in her own inimitable fashion. Produced by Hal Willner (Lou Reed, Metallica), “Covered” tackles material largely drawn from indie rock songs from the last decade—interpretations her fans will be familiar with as she’s been performing them live over the years.

The album contains biting, dark signature tracks such as Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” or My Chemical Romance’s “Teenagers” which Gray subversively overhauls into something wholly her own. Also included are short skits featuring J.B. Smoove, Nicole Scherzinger and a guest appearance by Idris Elba.

“Covered” will be released worldwide on 429 Records March 27th.In addition, Macy is planning a worldwide tour and has wrapped filming with director Lee Daniels (Precious) for his forthcoming film ‘The Paperboy” which also stars John Cusack, Zach Effron, Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey. The film will debut at Cannes in May with confirmed worldwide distribution in October 2012.

Since her dazzling debut introduced this singular talent to the masses, Macy has forged an uncompromising musical path beholden to her own vision and garnering accolades at every juncture. With “Covered” Macy has turned the cover album concept on its ear choosing edgy contemporary choices and approaching them in an innovative and uncompromising way. Not surprising considering she’s spent her career defying expectations and stretching musical boundaries.

Says Macy on being inspired by Nina Simone’s cover songs: “She didn’t worry about what people would think or how they would compare it to anybody else. I saw how she just took that song and every song she ever did and made them her own. So I went in with the confidence that we could do whatever we wanted.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Jack White has often been referred to as one of the most talented musicians of the last decade. In 2011, the White Stripes, the rock band composed of Jack and Meg White, broke up. The band rose to prominence during the 2000s and continue to be recognized through and associated worldwide with their biggest hit “Seven Nation Army.”

After the band disbanded, Jack White’s musical future was unclear. He collaborated with different kind of musicians such as Dead Weather, Tom Jones, The Raconteurs, and Insane Clown Posse, with whom White explored new and very particular ways of approaching music.

Now, the Detroit-born artist is returning to the music scene as a complete musician, announcing the release of his first solo album ‘Blunderbuss’, due on April 23-24. The record will be produced by White’s self-owned record label Third Man Records in collaboration with Columbia.

Jack White declared that ‘Blunderbuss’ is “an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”

The first single from the album, ‘Love Interruption’, was released on the 30th of January and is now available for streaming on Jack White’s website and for purchasing on the main digital music platforms. The single will also be released as a 7-inch vinyl edition on the 7th of February; it will contain ‘Love Interruption’ and the non-album track B-side ‘Machine Gun Silhouette’. The vinyl edition of the single is already available for pre-order on White’s website.

The critically acclaimed artist will surprise the audience with this very particular track as the introduction of the new album. Love Interruption is a gentle track built on keyboard and acoustic guitar; it taps into folk and country, giving the impression that White chose to walk a path for his solo career that differs from the powerful rock that has previously characterized the artist.

The lyrics are quite dark, with White saying he wants love to “stick a knife inside me, and twist it all around” and “change my friends to enemies and show me how it’s all my fault.” This dark feeling, though, is then smoothed by what seems to be a raise of self consciousness and a positive attitude of self preservation with the chorus “I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me anymore.”

As if the bulk and talent of Jack White’s achievements so far was not enough to awake the interest of most music lovers, this single has given the audience an additional reason to raise their expectations for the upcoming album release.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Legendary English rock band The Cure will thrill fans this year by headlining a series of major European festivals during the summer. The band returned to the live performance scene last year with a series of “Reflections” concerts, where they performed a long set, going through the first three album of the band’s career.

At the end of the “Reflections” New York performance in November last year, frontman Robert Smith announced their plan of an upcoming tour for 2012.

The band kept the promise, and The Cure recently confirmed on their website a list of European festivals they will be performing at. The band’s announcements will coincide with the festivals’ sites. The dates are only an introduction to the band’s activity for this summer; at the bottom of the list, The Cure website page reads “LOTS MORE TO COME…”

The already confirmed festivals to be headlined by the band, as of January 24, are:

Pinkpop Festival, Landgraaf, Holland – May 26

Primavera Sound 2012, Barcelona, Spain – May 30-June 3

Hultsfred Festival, Hultsfred, Sweden – June 14-16

Hurricane Festival, Scheeßel, Germany – June 22-24

Southside Festival, Tuttlingen, Germany – June 22-24

Rock Werchter, Belgium - 28 June

Les Eurockéennes, Malsaucy, France – June 29-July 1

Roskilde Festival, Roskilde, Denmark – July 5-8

Heineken Jammin’, Venice, Italy – July 7

Rock in Roma, Rome, Italy – July 9

Bilbao BBK Live, Bilbao, Spain – July 12-14

Optimus Alive, Oeiras, Portugal – July 14

So far there is no confirmation for any festival in their motherland, England, as well as no mention of whether the band will come back to perform in the U.S. The band is currently working on a new album, although no indication of release date has been given.

Meanwhile, 2012 will most likely see the release of a deluxe re-issue of the album “Wish” to mark the twentieth anniversary of the record. Though no official statement about the re-release has been given, speculations are fueled by reading the band bio on the official website of The Cure where it states: “The Cure have been re-issuing re-mastered versions of their early albums since 2003, with 1992′s ‘Wish’ (the album that carries the single ‘Friday I’m In Love’) scheduled for the ‘deluxe re-release’ treatment in 2012.”

Furthermore, in celebration of Record Store Day next April, a 7-inch vinyl of “Friday I’m In Love,” the 20-year-old hit single, will be released in the UK to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The release of the single is part of the “Secret 7-inch” project; a project combining music and art. Seven bands and recording artists, including The Cure, will release one of their singles as a 7-inch vinyl and fans and creatives are invited to design sleeves for those singles.

The sleeves will be displayed at the Idea Generation Gallery in London next April, in an exhibition which will run for the entire week leading to Record Store Day on the 21st of said month. On this day, all the vinyls will be available for purchasing, with the buyers not having knowledge of which sleeve, nor which single, they will be buying.

Fans of The Cure have been invited by the band to submit their artworks for the project, and 45 winners will soon be selected.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Alice in Chains, one of the most admired bands from the Seattle grunge scene, plans to release a new album soon. After some rumors about a new record, the guitarist and vocalist of the band, Jerry Cantrell, ended Alice in Chains’ set at their only gig last year by saying, “Time to head back to the studio and finish that record.”

Furthermore, he recently told ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine that the band started writing last year and that the break they took after the release of their latest album in 2009 was not intended to be so long.

One of the reasons for the long break was that Cantrell had to recover from shoulder surgery, which took some time. When interviewed by ‘Rolling Stone’, he added that they kept on writing and working on new material even during his rehabilitation. However, no time indication has been given so far about the release, though it is known that the band is planning to record in the early part of the year, giving hope to those who expect the album to be released in 2012.

The band does not seem to be pressured for a deadline. At the beginning of December 2011, when asked about a time frame for the record via ‘Grunge Report’, Jerry Cantrell replied, “Whenever we’re done. Schedules in music, I know people have done it and say you need an album out by this date, and you’re talking about album tour, it can burn you out quickly.

It did with our band. We’ve been fortunate to be partnered up with companies that respect the process. We’re never really forced to make music. If it doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t. We’ve been writing a lot. I also had shoulder surgery earlier this year. I’m at the tail end of rehabbing that. That put us back a little bit. But we have some stuff. We’ll do some writing. Hopefully we’ll have it out next year. We’ll put it out when we feel that it’s worth putting out.”

Another question regarding the new album is the role of William DuVall. The new singer, who is also the frontman of the rock band, Comes with the Fall, will probably cover a more prominent role than in ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’ of 2009, maybe having a wider influence on Alice in Chains’ sound.

‘Black Gives Way to Blue’ was the first album released by Alice in Chains after the passing of their late former singer, Layne Staley, who was then replaced by DuVall. The record has been addressed by band members to be celebrative of the legacy of the late band member and the band’s goodbye to him.

Staley died in 2002 from a lethal drug mix after struggling with severe drug addiction for years. He is one of those figures in music, and unfortunately particularly in grunge, who left the scene too early. He remains profoundly loved by fans and respected by the music scene.

‘Black Gives Way to Blue’ was a record which stuck to the typical Alice in Chains sonorities, fully respecting the band’s usual musical approach. It will be interesting to see if they will keep the new album on the same level or if DuVall’s presence will bring a slightly different set of sonorities to the group this time.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The year that marked the twentieth anniversary of one of the most meaningful progressions in rock history and of some of the most influential masterpieces like Nirvana’s “Nevermind”, “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Achtung Baby” by U2, just ended. Twenty years after 1991, what is the state of rock music?

2011 was in itself a good year for rock: “Wasting Light” by Foo Fighters, “Endgame” by Rise Against, and “I’m With You” by Red Hot Chili Peppers are just few of the good releases that signified the past year and the presence of the beautiful diversity of rock. However, to make a comparison between the state of rock in the contemporary music scene and the one of 1991, seems unfair.

Twenty years ago, the rise of grunge not only brought to life a new musical style, expressing alternative sonorities and meaningful messages, it also changed the roles in the game of the music industry, making the counterculture mainstream. It is undeniable that almost all rock bands have been influenced ever since by what happened twenty years ago, so in some ways this revolution is still present.

“Never lose faith in real rock ‘n’ roll music … Never lose faith in that. You might have to look a little harder, but it is always going to be there” said Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters frontman and ex Nirvana drummer, when accepting the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video for Foo Fighters’ “Walk.”

What surprises most people nowadays is exactly what Dave Grohl said: you have to look harder to find ‘real’ rock. After rising to power twenty years ago, the contemporary music industry seems to be ruled by a kind of pop music that does not really care about content or sonorities, but rather gossip, fashion and superficiality instead.

Many newer singers and bands seem to care more about impressing instead of touching people, even to the extend of not doing it through music. Lady Gaga, with her multiple costumes and creation of an alter ego, seems to be more concerned with what to wear rather than what to play; child stars like Justin Bieber, who relies on his looks rather than his voice, make provocative declarations like “I feel like the Kurt Cobain of my generation,” in order to make people talk about him, but the mere statement shows that he has no idea who Kurt Cobain was as a musician.

Rihanna has a sexy pose for every word in her songs but who can be sure it’s her real voice in the haze of voice effects and computerized distortions. Furthermore, a new type of music worker is forged through television today. Reality shows will throw any wannabe with any camera appeal to the audience, and the audience seems to blindly enjoy it.

Music charts of 2011 were often dominated by well-advertised groups created by TV standards. For example, since 2005, the UK Chart’s Christmas No. 1 has always been a song from the winner of some reality show, with the exception of 2009 when Rage Against The Machine won after a Facebook campaign against reality shows.

These few examples merit the proposition that what is really missing in the music industry is real music, real artists. Some of the most successful artists are so focused on building their imaginary characters that they forget to actually make music, relying on computerization rather than authenticity. The music industry supports this and the audience buys it all. Meanwhile, great rock bands who carry on their projects and make good music are almost lost in the scene.

“Music the great communicator,” sing Red Hot Chili Peppers in their song “Can’t Stop,” but thinking about the message that current mainstream music is communicating, nothing good comes to mind. In this scenario, there is no sign of a revolutionary and innovative rock movement about to explode. It is true that twenty years ago, nobody saw grunge coming.

On the other hand, the situation is different now. Music gets everywhere through the internet, everybody has the chance to be known somehow, and it should have gotten easier to distribute something with as much potential as grunge had in 1991 and punk in 1976.

“It’s sad to think what the state of rock ‘n’ roll will be in 20 years from now. It just seems when rock ‘n’ roll is dead the whole world is going to explode” said Kurt Cobain in an interview a few months before his death on 1994. Rock is not dead, at least not yet, but Cobain prophesied correctly: it is quite sad to think what Rock has come to today.

Sometimes a song presents on your life in an spontaneous way. Whether you were watching a movie, a show , or you were doing some sport at the gym. In any case what I want to tell you is that there are few songs that stay in our mind. Not only because maybe they came at the right moment, but because they create an atmosphere.

A new song always gives you a feeling of freshness. You can hear the song again and again without getting tired of it and this feeling it’s just amazing. It is the best feeling when you have discover a new song. Therefore I wanted to share an amazing artist that I discovered when I was watching a series named MisFits, and I heard the song Until We Bleed.

The song captured the perfect moment of the scenes, and it just took me once to hear it and it stayed in my mind the rest of the day. I kept mumbling the rhythm that stayed with me even if I didn’t got a clue of what the lyrics where. But that is a good song my fellows! It is not only the melody, but also the rhythm, the beats that make you feel the music inside you.

Well enough of my explanations, I wanted to share something with you and as I told you I discovered this artist. Her name is Lykke Li, she is 25 years old and she comes originally form Sweden.

I have never seen or her about her, but based on my research we can read that she is becoming pretty much an icon in the U.K already. But well for all of you, which have or haven’t discovered her I hope you enjoy this article.

She is a writer and composer. When you hear her music, you will hear a blend of different instruments such as trumpets, saxophones, violins, cellos, synthesizers, which make a perfect combination to integrate electronic, pop, and indie rock music. Her first album, named Youth Novels was released in 2008, when she was just 19 years old. But this year with the release of her second album, Wounded Rhymes her style and music have exploded like a lightning thunder. The album was released in Sweden on March 2011.

Lykee Li shared this words with Pitchfork Media, talking about her song Get Some:

“Get Some” is] just a snapshot, but the album is darker, moodier, and the lyrics are heavier. There’s less atmosphere, more directness. I was 19 when I recorded my first album, and I’ve been exposed to many things during these last few years; all the baby fat is gone. I dove into the craziness and did things that maybe I would think twice about when I get older. And I’m a really restless person; I’m tired of the way I sounded or looked yesterday.

So it’s hard to hang onto this image of me as this young Swedish female in this world. People comment on how you look, it’s so unnecessary. I just wanted people to listen to what I have to say instead of focusing on anything else. And, of course, there are a lot of things I’m angry about in the world”.

She is everything but common, you can see her on stage soon, she will be performing at the Latitude Festival 2011 in the U.K between the 14 and 17 of July 2011 at Henham Park in Suffolk, England.

Her style, fashion, voice and attitude make Lykee Li and interesting musician. She exposes a sweet but also a tough personality.

I leave you with a great list of songs that are featured on her second album for you to hear:

1. “Youth Knows No Pain”

2. “I Follow Rivers”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

This English, Brighton-based sextet released their third album “Rolling Blackouts” on January 31, 2011 in the UK and February 1, 2011 in the US. There are a total of thirteen upbeat tracks, mixing different styles of indie rock, alternative dance, and golden age hip-hop, as well as others.

The first song I ever heard from The Go! Team was Huddle Formation from their first album “Thunder, Lightning, Strike,” released in 2004 and I automatically loved this band. Now seven years later, they released their third and potentially final album, according to NME. Songwriter Ian Parton composed The Go! Team’s debut album “Thunder, Lightning, Strike” alone. He stated on January 31, 2011, that they don’t want to pull a Jay-Z and say that they are done, but then return three years later. Ian feels that this may be the last year touring, but he certainly did not state that the band is splitting. Parton stated that he never imagined this to be a long term project.
“Rolling Blackouts” is very eclectic and definitely feels that the group went ‘all out’ with this one. Their first track T.O.R.N.A.D.O. explodes with singer/rapper Ninja and horns blasting in the background. The melody in this song truly feels as if you can be pulled into a tornado in a split second for all of the two minutes and ten seconds before it abruptly ends. Second track, Secretary Song, collaboration with Deerhoof’s Satoni Matsuzaki, is toned-down, but still has a bubblegum feel with cheering chants.
One interesting fact about The Go! Team is that even though it falls under “indie rock” or “alternative dance,” this group brings all types of genres into their music, from jazz to pop to explosive operative rhythms. Most of their songs are perfect to dance to or listen to while working out. They are lively, mixing many forms of music and just groovy. It is sad that this may be their final album, but they made sure “Rolling Blackouts” sure kept their fans happy and entertained.

Track list:

1.	T.O.R.N.A.D.O.
2.	Secretary Song
3.	Apollo Throwdown
4.	Ready to Go Steady
5.	Bust-Out Brigade
6.	Buy Nothing Day
7.	Super Triangle
8.	Voice Yr Choice
9.	Yosemite Theme
10.	The Running Range
11.	Lazy Poltergeist
12.	Rolling Blackouts
13.	Black Like 8 Track

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

We want more Indie Rock! For everyone that agrees with this thought, let me announce you that the new album of the English indie Rock band , the Arctic Monkeys is going to be released this month, precisely the 5Th of June.

Their different and explosive music encloses the Indie Rock genre up to its top . The name of the album “ Suck it and See”, already anticipates an interesting soundtrack. According to the NME the band was uncertain of what title to chose for their new record. They were debating between” The Rain-Shaped Shimmer Trap”, “The Thunder-Suckle Fuzz Canyon”, “The Blondo-Sonic Rape Alarm”, and “Thriller”,

The band begin to work in this album since 2010, and it is a follow up of their 2009′s ‘Humbug’ album. Alex Turner the vocalist and songwriter explained that they used a different method this time. He explained that the band connected more in a way that they focus on preparing the songs by doing a lot of rehearsal together, rather than spending hours in the studio.

According with NME, They say that this album is a Arctic Monkeys have said they believe their new album ‘Suck It And See’ is a “balance between their first three albums.”

On the show “Zane Lowe’s, on BBC Radio 1 , Alex Turner commented: “I think the new album is a balance between our first three. There’s nothing about taxi ranks or anything like that, but there’s a bit of the standpoint I had on those early songs and the sense of humour, but also there’s a bit of the ‘Humbug’ stuff which is kind of off in the corners.”

This are the 12 tracks featured in the album:

1. Arctic Monkeys – She’s Thunderstorms

7. Arctic Monkeys – All My Own Stunts

8. Arctic Monkeys – Reckless Serenade

Sune Rose Wagner of the Danish rock-duo The Raveonettes told the Danish newspaper Jyllands-posten about their source of inspiration for the newly released album Raven In The Grave. Wagner and his musical partner Sharin Foo has been the front and back of one of the most successful rock bands out of Denmark. Personally, Wagner first made a name for himself in the 1990s with the band Psyched Up Janis, but has since 2001 influenced the indie rock stage with The Raveonettes’ hard-edged electric guitar and dark lyrical content. As a musician, Sune Rose Wagner explains that he finds inspiration in other musical contexts and art forms; “A lot of the tracks on the new album reflect classical music in the sense that they were written from a piano. We never really did that before.”

Wagner has his own piano at his Manhattan apartment in New York and takes classical piano lessons – just as he did when he lived in Brighton, UK and later in Seattle. “I’ve been able to read notes since I was a kid and am perfectly capable of playing any pop song on a piano,” he says. “But I’m just as interested in classical piano music in order to enter different directions in the music. You discover alternative harmonies which leads to completely different ways of constructing a track. On the new album we have tracks which, inspired by classical music such as Richard Wagner, never returns to the point of departure which denies the listener the deliverance you usually get from a pop song.” However, the duo still insists on recording the tracks with a guitar at their studio in Brooklyn.

If you listen to the repertoire of The Raveonettes, you cannot help but notice the cinematic touch of their sound. The musician admits that he has personal ambitions of writing songs for a movie in the future: “For years I’ve had the desire to create a soundtrack. However, I don’t think I will actually do it before I feel ready to deliver a soundtrack in the classic sense – I mean, a sound which is founded in the classical genre. It’s not something you just do. It demands a great insight into compositions and theory.” So far, it has just been the mood and lyrics of the Raveonettes which has benefited from the songwriter’s fascination of film. He tells Jyllands-posten that the song “Attack Of The Ghost Rider” from the duo’s first album Whip It On was inspired by the opening sequence of the classical Alfred Hitchcock movie Psycho – while David Lynch’s Blue Velvet greatly influenced much of the material from the early years of The Raveonettes.

“I’m not sure if other’s notice these sources of inspiration. But I was guided toward the mood of a track – or a sentence of the lyric – because of the atmosphere of various movies” Wagner explains. The new album is inspired by the 1983 American drama Bad Boys starring Sean Penn. “It’s a tough story with love and criminal behavior as the main ingredients while the songs in the movie give off a good portion of longing and hopelessness which I found extremely inspiring.”

Since 2005, the band has been responsible for their own releases after breaking with their record company Columbia Records. According to Wagner, this has been made possible because of the duo’s tour schedule – but he still believes there’s an industry in releasing albums.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

For all the Indie rock fans out there and also for all the people who are just looking for new good music I’ve got some new for you. The 4th of April, of this year, Glasvegas released their new CD named ‘EUPHORIC///HEARTBREAK\\\’. The album contains eleven songs, each of them better than the other one.

The Scottish indie rock band, originally from Glasgow returns with its unique style. The band began to play in small bars in Glasgow and in 2008 with their first debut of their album Glasvegas got an immense recognition, leading them to the second position in the UK album charts. One year later, the band style and music was admired and rewarded, leading to nominations for the Mercury Music Prize.

In a survey of 150 leading music journalists in the UK, “BBC News Sound of 2008 Top 10 Poll, the band was in the list of the best new bands in fourth place. The official comment from the BBC: “Glasvegas draw inspiration from rockabilly and pop from the Fifties and Sixties and build with their melancholic guitar music her own, Wall Of Sound ‘. It sounds about as if Jesus and Mary Chain play Grease’Soundtrack would. “

Glasvegas has gain the reputation of being one of the best live bands of the kingdom.

“The band, the sound, the state of mind — is being heralded as “The Greatest New Rock and Roll Band in the World” (NME, June 21, 2008).

Front man James Allen invented the band name Glasvegas, “. In the past, Scotland has always been very good at it, to make themselves down, each singing in a slightly American accent. I wanted a band name that is proud and straightforward. There are certain words that are the only way out from a bubble. “

For James writing music came naturally. His poems with pop melodies he heard in his head connect with each other. “A boy who was with my sister bought her a guitar,” he recalls. “I plucked the strings and it felt pretty good. I learned a few chords. Where we come from, nobody plays guitar and has this kind ambitions. When I told my family that I play guitar, I thought that it was something great, but everyone just said, ‘Oh, okay. Cool. “

With all this success and fame, the band still maintains itself in the right track, producing more music and enjoying their career. For James, Rab, Paul and Caroline Glasvegas is a way of life. “We get along with each other and we love to,” says James. “We started as friends and we have a strong foundation that can withstand a lot of pressure. That’s great, man, just what I wanted. I’m much better off in a rock’n'roll band than in a football team. “
