The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The 2011 black comedy ‘Horrible Bosses’ had moviegoers commiserating knowingly and by turns laughing until their sides split with its portrayal of three employers, each epitomizing the “boss from hell,” and three protagonist employees who decide their only respite is to off one another’s bosses.

New Line Cinema confirmed to E! Online earlier this month that a sequel to the box office hit will be in the works as of summer this year; with the original main character cast, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jason Bateman returning to play the three beleaguered white collars. Dale Arbus (Charlie Day) is a newly-engaged dental assistant taxed with deflecting the overt sexual advances of his boss, Dr. Julia Harris, played by Jennifer Aniston – revealing a sultry side to the actress known for her comic timing that surprisingly suits.

Nick Hendricks (Jason Bateman) works at a financial firm for the autocratic-to-the-extreme David Harken (Kevin Spacey), who chews him out for being two minutes late (using surveillance camera footage as grounds for incrimination) and deceives Nick into believing a promotion is around the corner, only to snatch the role of VP of Sales for himself. Who hasn’t met one of those? Kurt Buckman (Jason Sudeikis) loved his job until his boss died of a heart attack and the company is taken over by the next of kin: a party animal and cocaine addict (played by Colin Farrell) who brings prostitutes to the office and fires a member of staff for being “fat”. The trio hatch a plot to kill one another’s bosses under the tutelage of self-proclaimed murder consultant Motherf**ker Jones (Jamie Foxx).

On paper, the plot sounds rickety; but the film milks most of its laughs from strategically-placed expletives, toilet humor and endless spates of misfortunes descending on the characters until you can hardly believe three people can get themselves into such a colossal mess. The redeeming factor is that the plausibility is airtight, so that viewers can’t help but think “Oh my God, that could happen to me.” Dale is prevented from resigning because of Julia’s threats that she will lie to his fiancee that she and Dale had sexual relations (unless he actually consents to the act), and Nick’s boss has threatened to pencil in a fictitious “drinking problem” and “disruptive behavior” into his reference letter.

The film grossed $209 million during its theatre run – not a bad return on investment for a project that cost $35 million to make – and racked up one of the top box office openings ($28.1 million) of all time for a film of its genre.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel will feature “a brand new set of bosses”, although Aniston’s and Spacey’s characters may make cameo appearances. Two of the three screenwriters from the original, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein – minus Michael Markowitz – will be staying on to pen ‘Horrible Bosses 2’. New Line Cinema is currently in talks with ‘Horrible Bosses’ director Seth Gordon about spearheading the sequel.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

With summer coming, all of us are beginning to worry about our bikini bodies and what we can do to lose weight fast. There are many diets out there that have reached popularity, but have negative health effects. Plus, they may not be effective in the long run.

One old diet is the Cotton Ball Diet. The cotton ball diet is exactly what it sounds like: you eat cotton balls, either by themselves or soaked in gelatin. The idea is to fill up your stomach with something that will take away hunger but not add any calories. However, the cotton ball diet deprives your body of key nutrients. Even the fiber that people believe they are getting isn’t the type of fiber necessary to sustain bodily functions. Not to mention the inevitable digestion problems.

Another old diet it the Tapeworm Diet. Before being banned in the United States, Fly by Night, Inc. sold pills called Megaslim that supposedly contained a live tapeworm. You could eat as much as you want, and the tapeworm would absorb at least half of the calories for you. Yet tapeworms may not actually eat enough of what you ingest to make you lose weight, and can cause bad infections, malnutrition, and even death by reaching other parts of your body, like your heart or brain, through your bloodstream.

New diets, reinforced by celebrities, are reaching popularity as well. The Lemonade Diet, also called the Master Cleanse, involves drinking a mixture of freshly squeezed lemon juice, syrup, purified water, and cayenne pepper for ten days.

The purpose is to cleanse the colon of built-up toxins while making the dieter feel younger and more energized. Beyoncé made this diet popular when she announced that she lost twenty pounds for the set of DreamGirls. However, after ten days on this diet you verge on starvation. Beyoncé herself says she wouldn’t recommend this diet for anyone.

The Cabbage Soup Diet involves one week of eating cabbage soup, water, and vitamins. The soup consists of cabbage, peppers, onion, tomatoes, carrots, mushroom, celery, and spices. You can eat as much as you want of this soup, but nothing else. Some celebrities like Sarah Michelle Gellar have reported results about this diet. You burn more calories digesting these foods than eating them.

The Grapefruit Diet, in which you eat nothing except one grapefruit per meal and a lot of water, is based on the principle of cutting back carbohydrates. A variation of this diet is to eat a grapefruit before every meal to cut back on meal size. The grapefruit can be replaced with any other fruit or vegetable.

Dieters average losing about ten pounds in a twelve day period. Yet this diet averages about 800 calories a day. The minimum calorie goal is much higher, and depends on the dieter’s height and weight. Similarly, both Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston support the Baby Food Diet, with which you replace two or three meals a day with jars of baby food.

You can also have one adult meal and snack on the baby food all throughout the day instead. This diet cuts out a lot of the fillers and added ingredients that adult food features. It also cuts out too many calories: dieters eat less than they should.

The goal with any of these diets is to shed pounds fast, and see immediate results. Yet most of these pounds come from water weight-dieters are likely to gain it all back once they begin to eat regularly again! Plus, most of them deprive your body of key nutrients and starve you, which could have damaging effects on other internal organs if used too drastically or longer than recommended.

Make sure to talk to a doctor if you are going to attempt one of these diets. It is much healthier to simply watch what you eat, cut out fatty or processed food, and exercise regularly. Those pounds have a chance of staying off, even if it takes a longer time.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Most actors and actresses on the small screen start off on TV, then end up on the big screen in Hollywood as A-Listers starring in major motion pictures.

Think about Jennifer Aniston and Will Smith, who both got a jump start to their now-flourishing acting careers in ‘Friends’ and ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air respectively. This past TV season it seems that it has been the other way around, with already established movie stars making guest appearances on TV sitcoms.

Over the past decade, there have been several guest appearances on some of TV’s hottest sitcoms, some that improved a celebrity’s or show’s rating, and then some appearances that didn’t fare as well as the show had predicted. Paste Magazine made a list of the ten best guest appearances over the past decade, and some of them are shocking.

Reality Stars Kim Kardashian, Spencer Pratt, and Heidi Montag starred in one episode of “How I Met Your Mother” in 2009. These stars, which have faced a lot of scrutiny and criticism from the press, actually did an exceptional job on the episode. They weren’t taken too seriously as they talked to Marshall about his cover in a Tabloid Magazine, something the real life reality stars can relate to.

Comedian Bob Saget also made a hilarious appearance on Entourage where he played himself, and brought a lot of added humor to the episode. Cher made an appearance on the hit show, “Will & Grace” where she sang her pop chart-topping hit, “If I Could Turn Back Time.” Viewers tuned into that episode where Cher shows she is the real deal. And who better to make a guest appearance than the world-renowned savvy entrepreneur, Oprah Winfrey?

Oprah made a guest appearance on “30 Rock” where she sits in an airplane next to a young lady as the woman complains about the problems she is having in her life, one of which is not receiving her monthly subscription to “O” Magazine. To top off the “best of the best” TV appearances, who could forget Brad Pitt guest starring on “Friends” with then-wife, Jennifer Aniston? The adoringly cute episode became a smash hit and exposed the lives of the changing celebrity culture.

And now for the worst…While Jennifer Aniston’s ex-husband was a hit on her show, Aniston didn’t make the guest appearance viewers were hoping for on one of the episodes of “Cougar Town.” On www.Tv.Com, critics stated that, “the woman is so desperate for attention-and so limited in her acting range, that it’s impossible to separate the actress from the characters she plays on screen.”

Many Americans have the Bieber Fever right now. But did he really make an appearance on the show “CSI?” Bieber and CSI do not even belong in the same sentence, and when critics were asked why he was voted as one of the worst guest appearances of all-time, they responded with, “do we really need to give a reason?”

Critics felt that Sasha Grey’s appearance on Entourage was awful where she played a porn-star. Critics believe Grey is “not really known for her acting,” and for another, her appearance started “a weird and unnecessary Twitter frenzy.” The most shocking to make TV’s worst guest appearance was America’s favorite golden girl, Betty White, where she played a professor and librarian on the show, “Community and the Middle.”

Critics thought that her “giggle-inducing grandma schtick started to feel like geriatric gimmick.” Ouch Betty! Luckily for White, she still took home an Emmy for her stint on SNL, which aired right before her guest appearance on the show.

So what does the near future hold for Hollywood guest appearances? WeLoveSoaps.net is positive this will be a big year for Hollywood guest appearances on several TV series by calling the year of 2012, “The Year of the Soap!” Lindsay Lohan recently announced that she will be acting as herself as a guest star on the hit singing show, “Glee.”

But there are several other very famous celebrities that will also be hitting the small screen for an episode, or even a few. For the month of April alone, several big names will be appearing on some of TV’s hottest series. Luke Perry, former stud of the hit show “Beverly Hills 90210” will show his face on “Body of Proof.”

Georgia Engel will stand next to Ashton Kutcher in one of TV’s most popular comedies, “Two and a Half Men.” TV dramas including Criminal Minds, CSI: New York and NCIS: Los Angeles will also be seeing some famous faces including Erica Gimpel (appearing on Criminal Minds), Blake Gibbons (appearing on CSI), and Christel Khalil (appearing on NCIS: Los Angeles). Additionally, Hollywood hunk Mark Consuelos might appear on Law & Order’s, “Special Victim’s Unit,” but it has not yet been determined.

WeLoveSoaps.net might be right when they say this is the year of the soap considering the guest appearances are for this month alone! It’s going to be exciting to see what A-Listers will be making appearances, both good and bad, in the following months.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

It couldn’t get more official than this: Jennifer Aniston has taken the plunge and rented a house together with her boyfriend, actor Justin Theroux.

The 42-year-old star of Horrible Bosses sold her old Beverly Hills home in California last month for a whopping $38 million and has moved in with 40-year-old Theroux in a temporary, cosy two-bedroom property in the Hollywood Hills while they search for a permanent home.

This comes after Justin reportedly took Jennifer on a romantic Hawaiian getaway originally planned with his ex-girlfriend for his 40th birthday. The ex was Theroux partner of 14 years, Heidi Biven, who was out of the picture shortly before his relationship with Aniston became public.

According to Monsters and Critics online magazine, the former couple had planned the trip to Hawaii with the intention of looking up property together. Biven, who works as a fashion stylist, told a friend that she was “psyched” about the trip back in March, according to US Weekly sources. This was shortly before the breakup.

Rumor has it that Jennifer may already be pregnant but friends close to Theroux say that he won’t marry the former Friends actress. Now magazine reported that Theroux’s friend, composer Craig Wedren believes he won’t make such a commitment.

“He isn’t the marrying type, as you can see from the 14-year relationship that didn’t end in marriage,” he told Now magazine. “He isn’t the king of guy to be owned.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Is your boss a slave-driving mad man? Overly sexual and less than ethical? How about an outright sleaze? According to Warner Brother’s summer hit ‘Horrible Bosses’, more often than not the blue collar workers of the world have at least one of the three writing their paycheck.

Friends Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day) live ordinary and uneventful lives, with the exception of their extraordinarily intolerable bosses. The three dutifully work and contribute to society while suffering the orders of professional bullies, sexually aggressive dentists and ignorant superiors. While many average citizens feel that their bosses have no real purpose to their existence, these three friends decide over beer and bar food that they have been driven to the edge and must kill each others bosses. Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell are the head honcho menaces stripping our three protagonists of their sanity and happiness, one day at a time. Dave (Spacey) corporate pressures Nick into Scotch chugging—at 8:15 am. Julia (Aniston) repeatedly fondles unconscious patients as well as Dale, Bobby (Farrell) constantly discriminates against the overweight and handicapped while putting Kurt in the middle. Turning in their two weeks notice is not an option for the gang, so instead they venture into the shady world of suburban homicide. There they meet Jamie Foxx as Motherfucker Jones, who mentors the harmless middle class citizens looking to pull off the perfect crime with absolutely no weapons, no training, no clue.

Packed with crude and sexual content, which is in large part thanks to Aniston’s man eating role as Dale’s dentist boss, this R rated comedy stands to prove it’s a bit spicier than what viewers usually encounter. Director Seth Gordon, who’s other movies include, “Four Christmases” and “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters”, said that there is, “No redeeming message” to the movie, rather that it is,”just for laughing and laughing hard.”

So, why should we?

With an all star cast of established favorites and again, Jamie Foxx playing a character named Motherfucker Jones, the simplicity of the initial premise provides something that all viewers can relate to and few hopefully have had the chance to live out. With the plan of killing each others bosses and attempting to make it look like an accident, the successful outcome of all three murders is anyone’s guess. However, while Horrible Bosses has the disgruntled and poorly treated workers of the world go up against the few which hold all of the power, they are still merely blue collar workers, making their means of espionage counterproductive mayhem.

Here in lies the promise of the movie and why it is worth seeing amidst a sea of many comedies which all, frankly, have no redeeming message. If it can give us the laughs we want but provide them through plot development instead of a completely typical ending, then why not enjoy it for enjoyments sake? Do we want to see a successful stake out, or the gang settle in for a day of surveillance only to realize come nightfall that no one checked to see if anyone was actually home? Would we like the murders to just be taken care of in suave and technologically savvy manner or watch as Dale hands Spacey a peanut butter sandwich which he has a deathly allergic reaction to—only to have Dale stab him with an EpiPen and save his life? We want to see this story play out because the truth is that there are a lot of bad bosses out there, and we want to see our own beer and bar food loving doppleganger employees win.
