Few places in the world can boast a worldwide musical community like Seattle, WA, and the entire surrounding Northwestern region can. This has probably been the reason lying behind the new initiative “Experience the City of Music” promoted at Sea-Tac International Airport.

The airport will indeed become a window onto the musical soul of the city; as Mayor Mike McGinn stressed, “Seattle is known around the world for its music culture, so it’s great to see this identity embraced and showcased to all the travelers going through the airport.”

Whether having Sea-Tac as a stop-over, layover, or a final destination, travelers will be able to enjoy the Northwestern music coming out of the airport speakers, as well as music videos showed on screens throughout the airport. Waiting at baggage claim will no longer be a boring waste of time, as travelers will have the chance to be amused by some of the best artists that characterize the Seattle music scene.

Furthermore, travelers will hear artists such as Jerry Cantrell read public informative announcements, and will have the chance to enjoy a dedicated music channel web radio available through the free Wi-fi network present at the airport.

The artists featured in the program will be numerous, ranging from historical musicians such as Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Alice in Chains and many more of those who made Seattle’s history, to new emerging groups in the region.

It will, indeed, not only be a celebration of what made Seattle be one of the most famous cities in the world– such as the raise of grunge and the masterly ability of guitar playing by Hendrix–but also a boosting action for the upcoming sounds of the area. Given that over 32 million passengers pass through Sea-Tac Airport each year, this will be an opportunity of unmatched value for local emerging bands to be featured at the airport.

Seattle Music Commissioner Marcus Womack addressed the initiative as a relevant community effort.

“This project has been so much fun to work on because of all the community support and excitement to show off our music culture in such a significant way. I am proud to be on the Seattle Music Commission and drive this forward.”

The opening of the initiative will take place on Saturday, January 28. A free and open to public launch party will run from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Pacific time) in the ‘Gina Marie Lindsey’ Arrivals Hall, with live performances by local bands. Additional live performances will take place onboard in the rail trains connecting to the airport from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..

“Experience the City of Music” is the result of a co-operation between the Port of Seattle, Seattle Music Commission and PlayNetwork, with the support of The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and other organizations based in the city of Seattle.

With a new project in the making for Captain America actress Hayley Atwell, could this mean to new acting gig for Outkast’s Andre 3000?

According to Atwell this likely stand in the realm of possibility; In one reply during the actress’ interview with Esquire magazine the actress notes future plans pertaining to “a Jimi Hendrix biopic- an independent film with Andre 3000 from Outkast playing Jimi Hendrix” (pastemagazine.com).  However, with an added “But I don’t know, really” to the actress’ prior statement, the occurrence of a biopic with Andre 3000 remains vocally unofficial.

Nonetheless, discussion of a movie centered on Hendrix has been floating throughout the conversations of musicians beyond Andre 3000; Lenny Kravitz and Laurence Fishburne are among those who have exhibited an interest in having a biopic produced. And while a handful have campaigned for the biopic’s production, a budding Hendrix movie in 2006 was halted by London’s High Court. This was due to the court’s reported reasoning that filmmakers in the US did not own rights to Hendrix’s music or image (nme.com).

With multiple appearances in shows such as the soap opera Families and drama series The Shield, Andre 3000 owns his fair share of acting experience.  Add on his movie role as Percival in 2006’s Idlewild and the artist, born André Lauren Benjamin, surfaces as an even better match for the legendary Hendrix’s biopic.

Though he has been pushing for a Hendrix biopic since 2004, Andre 3000 is still prepared to release his solo album by the year’s end along with a rumored reunion CD with Big Boi. Being the group that brought us spirited dance songs such as 2003′s “Hey Ya”, “The way you move” and “Roses” (Speakerboxxx/I Love Below), an Outkast album is sure to stll gratify music fans in 2012.

While the future of a music legend’s biopic remains to be seen, music buffs will have to tide themselves over with other means of reaching solid entertainment.

Multiple means of music outlets (youtube.com, Pandora.com, itunes) are sure to semi-pacify music thirsty fans, however, there is little that could match the potential exquisite nature of a Jimi Hendrix Biopic.

In the meantime, a hopefulness that Mrs. Atwell’s “I don’t know” regarding the biopic will transform into certainty shall act as a sustainer for music devotees.

Captain America: The First Avenger: starring Atwell along with Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving premieres everywhere July 22.
