The British royal family has taken legal actions against the French magazine Closer, owned by the former Italian Premier and present media mogul Silvio Berlusconi, which last week published topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge. The scandalous images were taken a month ago during the private family vacation in southern France.

The sensational images were printed under the headline “Oh my God! The Photos That Will Go Around the World!,” showing photos of the royal couple sunbathing in the French chateau of Queen Elizabeth’s nephew, Lord Linley.

The Britain’s newspaper The Evening Standard issued that during their “secluded” vacation, the royal couple could have been observed from a nearby street. According to the article, Kate Middleton was rubbing sun cream into Prince William’s back while he was reading his iPad on the terrace of the 19th-century mansion.

Meanwhile, the French magazine Closer insisted that the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge were not properly secured and that “if two public figures chose to strip off in full view of a public road, then they can expect to be pictured, and they were.”

Closer’s editor, Laurence Pieau, claimed that the “pictures are not shocking”, because they depict “just a beautiful couple, an in-love couple in the south of France.” As he himself claimed, Kate is just “the girl next door.”

It is not the first conflict between the French media and the British royals. Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, have consistently blamed the Parisian paparazzis for the tragic death of their mother, Princess Diana, on August 31, 1997.

St. James Palace’s officials stated that “the photos are genuine and the couple are furious.” It was officially announced that on Friday the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge began legal proceedings against the French gossip magazine Closer. The royal spokespeople declared last week that “their royal highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and unjustifiable manner.”

This is the second media scandal the royal family has had to face within a short period of time. A month ago, nude photos of Prince Harry, the younger brother of Pricne William, were released by the British tabloid The Sun, in spite of the warnings of the royal family that they would sue the newspaper if the images were published.

According to the French lawyer Jean-Frédéric Gaultier, the royal couple could bring a suit against the French gossip magazine Closer and coerce it to stop the spreading of the photos. However, Kate and William can also sue the yellow magazine for personal damages.

In the meantime, the scandalous pictures of Kate Middleton has started to travel around the world. The Italian gossip magazine Chi, also owned by Silvio Berlusconi, published the photos of the Duchess of Cambridge with the heading “Court Scandal: The Queen is Nude!” According to the editor of Chi, Alfonso Singorini, the photos were not meant to ruin Kate’s image, but to depict the “the modern concept of the monarchy.”

Irish Daily Star also issued two pages devoted to the scandalous images of Prince William’s wife. The edition however was not distributed in Northern Ireland, which is part of Great Britain. In his defense, the editor of the Irish newspaper, Mike O’Kane, said that the Irishmen do not revere the Britain’s royal family as the British do. “She’s not our future queen. The duchess would be no different to any other celeb pics we would get in, for example Rihanna or Lady Gaga,” O’Kane commented.

The British press, which has been keeping the privacy of the royal couple since their marriage in 2011, refrained from publishing the photos of Kate Middleton and sharply condemned its international colleagues. The Daily Mirror called the French newspaper that released the photos a “sneaky French mag.”

This was definitely not the greatest week for the British Royal family, due to a naked-photos scandal. Prince Harry was enjoying himself with friends during holiday in the United States when some embarrassing images of him surfaced from a wild night of partying in Las Vegas.

Specifically the two images obtained of Harry, sold for £10,000, were published and leaked online on tuesday night by the american celebrity news website TMZ. The two pictures were both showing the third-in-line to the throne naked in his birthday suite.

In one of the photographs, prince Harry is pictured naked benting over a second person, who also appears to be naked. It is not clear whether the person is male or female. In the other photograph the young prince is also pictured nude, covering his genitals with his hands and wearing only a necklace and a watch while another person, who also appears to be naked, stands close beside him.

TMZ reported that the two images were both taken after a game of strip billiards last weekend at a private suite in the Wynn Resort. The Prince visited Vegas to enjoy himself with some friends, after official business at a charity event in San Diego.

Prince Harry who has now returned to the motherland has some serious explaining to do to the Queen.

A video from the very same trip to Vegas has also been released, showing the Prince racing Ryan Lochte, the US Olympic swimming gold metallist in the pool of a nightclub in the hotel they were staying. Ryan Lochte, who was in Las Vegas in order to celebrate his 28th birthday, admitted that he was ‘surprised’ Prince Harry had challenged him to the race, which of course Ryan won.

Ryan also said that Harry was a great guy, and it has been a honour to have met him. Challenging one of the world’s top sportsmen wasn’t a first for the 27-year-old Prince, since he had managed to beat the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt in a joke race in March during a Caribbean tour.

Although banned to be printed in the United Kingdom, the nude images of Harry were quickly spread worldwide online. The Sun became the first newspaper in Britain to have published the naked images of Prince Harry, despite warnings from the Royal family’s lawyers. Elizabeth Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s daughter, claimed The Sun was right to publish the photographs. Elizabeth told Telegraph that “it would be very sad if we lived in a world where you can’t publish that. Even in my MacTaggart tunnel of the last couple of days, i went online and checked and checked out the pictures.”

A palace official, declining to be named in line with protocol, stated that Prince Harry has been on private holiday before, resuming his military duties. For those who don’t know: Harry is a captain in the British Army Air corps. On Wednesday, the British Royal family requested the country’s newspapers not to print the nude images of Prince Harry dancing around excitedly with friends on holiday in Las Vegas.

While now it’s nude pictures that are dominating the headlines, the young Royal is used to controversy. It is not the first time he’s coming into the spotlight. After all, he has the reputation of the ‘wild child’ in the Royal family:

Back in 2002, young Harry earned the nickname ‘Harry Pothead’, given to him by the British Press after admitting to having tried out cannabis and engaging to underage drinking. In January 2002, Prince Charles sent Harry and a friend to visit the Featherstone Lodge Rehabilitation Center in South London for a day in order to learn about the effects of drug-taking.

In 2004, Harry comes once again in the spotlight for wearing a swastika armband to a friend’s ‘Colonial and Native’ themed party. The tabloids exploded with reports that Harry was a Nazi. Clarence House quickly released an apology, saying “Prince Harry has apologized for any offence or embarrassment he has caused. He realizes it was a poor choice of costume.”

His reputation as a wild child was increased when The Sun claimed to have video of a 23-year-old Harry drinking in large gulps from a bottle of vodka, spitting it out on a cap and inhaling the shot through his nose while his friends were cheering him on. His representative made no comments on the incident, claiming it was a ‘private matter’.

Moreover, in 2009 there was additional footage of Harry in which the Prince was calling his fellow Army colleagues by racist or other derogatory names. Prime Minister David Cameron spoke out against his utterances, claiming they were unacceptable things to say. Harry of course quickly apologized for the incident saying he was sorry for any offence his words might have caused.

Less than a year ago Kate Middleton, known as Catherine to the royal family, became a part of a royal fairy tale when she married her prince charming, heir to the throne of England, Prince William. Prince William and Prince Edward have been extremely protective over Kate as she adapts to life in the public eye. But it’s now apparent that Kate can hold her own, and has proven herself by living up to the royal family’s expectations.

William, who arrived home last week after spending seven weeks in the Falkland Islands serving his duties in the Air Force, was greeted by Kate at the airbase where she welcomed her husband home. It was the longest time the royal couple has been apart since their nuptials on April 29, 2011. With much concern of how Kate would fare on her own, it has been shown that Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, was meant for royalty.

While William was gone, Kate proved herself time and time again that she was born for the role she is playing. She engaged in several royal engagements, as well as charity events. And during those seven weeks, Kate even made her first solo royal speech. With grace and poise she gave a public speech at the opening of the East Anglia Children’s Hospice, located just outside of London. Before giving her speech, Kate was greeted by 600 fans.

Kate, who even wrote the speech herself, admitted she had a “pre-conceived idea as to what to expect,” and by adding that “it was far from being a clinical depressing place for sick children, it was a home. Most importantly, it was a family home, a happy place of stability, support and care. It was a place of fun.”

During her speech Kate also recognized her husband by stating, “I’m only sorry that my husband couldn’t be here today. He would love it here.” And with William gone for almost two months, it gave Kate a chance to get close to the one she is bound to impress the most, the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth.

The queen has invited Kate to several official public engagements recently, something that she never invited Princess Diana to do in her first year of marriage to Prince Edward. Of the appearances, Kate joined the Queen and Prince Philip as they kicked off the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Tour. Kate has also recently been by the queen’s side for royal appearances in London at both Fortnum and Mason.

Prince Edward gave a statement to the press regarding his high opinion of Kate and her accomplishments. He stated, “Catherine is doing very well. She has taken to royal life like a duck to water. She’s very gracious and the family is very proud of her.”

Currently Kate and William are spending a lot of quality time together catching up and spending time with the newest addition to their family, a four-month-old cocker spaniel named Lupo.

William is only on short leave from duty right now, and he will soon resume his search and rescue duties at the Royal Air Force Valley. Looks like this time around, William will be less worried about Kate, as she gets another opportunity to charm the world with her compassion and care, by showing the public her dreams and plans for the betterment of society, and for the future England.
