The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Sydney, Australia – Following its highly successful launch in Melbourne last year, this is the first time Australia has hosted a show on this scale for two consecutive years; and it’s likely to continue with the return to Melbourne next year. Exhibitions are enjoying a revival due to their ability to present new to market products, diminishing choice on the high street and the growth of own branding.

Using over 50 prestige Suites at the high end Sheraton on the Park Hotel, the format remains unchanged: emphasis being given to high quality Audio & AV products, each displayed and demonstrated in individual listening rooms. Opening to the public on Friday at 2.00pm - closing at 6.00pm, then Saturday 10.00am – 5.00pm and Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm.

Various ticket options are available from the Organisers website: http://www.chestergroup.org. Both Trade and Press passes are available to those directly engaged with the industry, so not only do shows of this type please the buying public, but also allow valuable networking for the industry.

This type of show has been long overdue for Australia, and has thus tapped into an incredibly receptive market; one of the most outstanding features from last year was the vast age range of those that visited – plus families and groups. The show proved so popular that on neither of the three days was it able to close on time.

With many new exhibitors from Australia and Overseas, the show promises to deliver great enjoyment once again. The Organisers are extremely pleased to confirm that the Australian Hi-fi Association are also associated with this year’s show. Also, the Organisers are Co -Sponsors of the Next Media’s Sound and Image Awards which also takes place at the Sheraton on the Park: Saturday the 20th October.

“We take all the events we organise worldwide very seriously” says Group Chairman Roy Bird

“We do all we can to help the industry not only in the long term, but also so our shows reflect changes and move with the times”

Part of their success is the great local partnerships they have been able to forge together with Media Sponsorships, and they are greatly indebted to the huge support they have received from Jim & Di Preece and the NextMedia Magazine Group.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Andrew Bolt, a popular newspaper columnist for the Herald Sun, a newspaper released in Melbourne, Australia, is being sued by nine Aboriginal people who are accusing him and his newspaper of racial discrimination.

Aboriginal is a broad name used in Australia to describe the people who were native to Australia before the British arrival and subsequent colonization in 1788.

The cause of the legal preceedings are a series of articles deriding the nine for their stated cultural heritage as Aboriginal. The nine plaintiffs have lighter skin then some images of Aboriginal people, and some have one parent who was not Aboriginal.

The Australian government officially defines an Aborignal person as “a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by the community in which he or she lives.”

All nine are from Aboriginal descent and have been accepted into their communities as Aboriginal.

The articles and opinion pieces, written by Andrew Bolt, centre on the allegations that the nine plaintiff’s, who were specifically mentioned by name in the pieces, are not actually Aboriginal and are merely claiming to be so in an attempt to gain publicity and political influence.

The blog entries included titles like ‘White is the new black’, with the articles running with ‘It’s so hip to be black’ and ‘White fellas in the black’.

Black fellas and white fellas are Aboriginal slang used to describe people of Aboriginal descent and non-Aboriginals respectively.

The nine are demanding an apology from Mr Bolt and that the articles and blogs are not reproduced.

The trial in Melbourne continues.

Police have still not determined how the safety barrier failed to stop the woman going over the edge.

The woman is in a stable condition in hospital, suffering a cut to the head.

The ABC reports Ambulance crews on the scene as saying the car had managed to drop to the ground and wedge between two buildings, which made it difficult to get access to the driver.

Investigations are continuing.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

66 year old Judy Moran has been convicted of planning the murder of her brother-in-law Des ‘Tuppence’ Moran in 2009.

Des Moran was shot in a delicatessen in the Melbourne suburb of Ascot Vale on June 15, 2009.

Des Moran was the latest victim in the Moran family, which has been notable for its involvement in Melbourne gangland violence.

Judy Moran’s two sons, Jason and Mark, and her estranged husband Lewis were all killed in gangland violence.

Between January 1998 and April 2010, the Melbourne gangland violence resulted in the deaths of 36 criminals or their partners.

The majority of these murders are still unsolved, though police believe that Carl Williams may be responsible for 10 of the murders. Carl Williams is notorious in the Melbourne underworld before his incarceration in 2007.

Carl Williams was killed in April 2010; beaten to death by a fellow inmate while still serving time in Barwon Prison.

Judy Moran’s conviction has been the subject of intense media scrutiny in Melbourne, as have all the crimes during the Melbourne gangland killings.

Melbourne’ criminal activity has been the subjects of a popular television mini-series known as Underbelly.

In Judy Moran’s case, the jury took seven days to find her guilty.

Ms Moran was arrested on this day of her brother-in-law’s shooting in April last year.

She was the subject of electronic surveillance by police, who overheard Ms Moran and Suzanne Kane, the sister of Jason Moran’s widow, talking to Desmond Moran’s killer about their disposal of murder weapons.

Ms Moran was arrested by homicide detectives on the evening of 16 June after dumping the getaway car used in Desmond Moran’s murder.

Further searching of her house by detectives revealed a safe, which contained three handguns, clothing matching the description of the killer, a mask and stolen registration plates.

Ms Moran is yet to be sentenced.

The Myki system was proposed under the previous Labor government led by John Brumby, and came under multiple attacks from Ted Bailieu when he was opposition leader.

Now Ted Baillieau is premier of Victoria and has called for an audit of the Myki project, with the future of the smart card looking extremely uncertain.

Myki has been rolled out across all trams and trains across Melbourne, allowing customers to use the ‘touch on, touch off’ system at most public transportation points.

John Brumby had faced extreme criticism for the repeated delay to the full roll-out of Myki. With the new audit of the system, the full shift from paper Metcards to the plastic Myki looks set to be delayed again.

Myki would allow customers to top up online, with amounts that suited them, and having a guarantee that the prices would not be higher then when using a metcard.

Unlike other transport cards overseas the Myki is not available for purchase at most stations, to buy the smart card a customer has to go to the ticketing booth at stations or order the card online.

The card includes requirements of proof of ID, to allow the card to have the money transferred should become lost or stolen.

The Myki system has cost the government more then $1.35 billion, going over the budget given to the card.
