The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

For the dedicated fans of The CW Network’s “Supernatural” series, the wait is almost finally over. Season 8 of the monster-fighting, apocalypse-dodging roller coaster is coming back to our screens.

And what a lead up it has been, first we had Jared and Genevieve Padalecki both starring in the stunning Brian Buckley Band’s ‘I am human’ music video, Jensen Ackles’ cover of ‘Angeles’, and finally the new arrival of Misha Collin’s baby daughter. And now on October 3rd at 9pm EST the first episode of season 8 premiers.

New show-runner, Jeremy Craver, ensures that fans are in for a treat this season.

The first episode, titled, ‘We need to talk about Kevin’, is directed by Robert Singer and written by Jeremy Craver himself. It sees the return of Osric Chau’s character Kevin Tran, who has definitely matured since we last left him. Guided by God’s Word (which is going to be a big theme in this season) he has become a hunter himself, and has some very important news to tell the Winchester brothers about a new scheme everyone’s favorite king of hell, Crowley (Mark Sheppard), is cooking up. And Kevin is not the only character who has changed; it has been a long year for both Sam and Dean, and neither of them are the same.

We see a Sam similar to his former Season One self; he has settled into a normal life, with new love interest Amelia ( played by Liane Balaban) after being unable to find his brother, but in true Winchester fashion he drops everything to be at his brother’s side when he returns.

This season promises to have a very exciting character development for Dean Winchester, who’s fresh out of purgatory. Like a soldier home from war he feels like he does not quite fit back in former life before he entered Purgatory, where he had to reach into a more primal side of himself in order to survive, and found that he liked it. In fact he may even miss it a bit.

And then there is Benny (Ty Olsson), another new face on the show. He’s a vampire that Dean meets in Purgatory. They become reluctant allies against the monsters that hunt them but end close friends. However, how much we can trust this character is uncertain as he brings a certain tension between the brothers due to Dean’s reluctance to tell Sam all of the things that the both of them did in Purgatory.

And of course we cannot forget everyone’s favorite angel, Castiel, who, from what we have seen from the released promo videos, does not leave Purgatory with Dean. In fact, Sam is told by Dean that Cas “did not make it” and that he “let go”, and no one involved in the production of the show is letting slip what that means. The entire mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Cas, and what exactly happened down in Purgatory, is retold in a series of flashbacks throughout the season, though, and it has been confirmed that Misha Collins will be appearing in at least 8 episodes but what happens to him is anyone’s guess.

Also, look forward to Jensen Ackles getting behind the camera again to direct for the third time for the series, which is the third episode in the season and titled ‘Heartache’.

“Supernatural” is creeping closer and closer. Are you prepared for Purgatory?
