Equinox is for some people a natural phenomenon; for some it remains a usual day. However, when the day and night become the same length, people in a small city of Sandvika, not far from Oslo, the capital of Norway, will gather together to enjoy the Kulquinox festival.

Kulquinox, a word combination of culture (in Norwegian, kultur) and equinox is one of the concepts developed by Cosmic Wind Cultural Collaborations. As the word indicates, it is a cultural festival which takes place twice a year around the time of the fall and spring equinox.

From music and dance to poetry and acrobatics, the wide range of the festival program is as diverse as the audience itself. For the coming Kulquinox on September 15, 2012, there will be performances of national and international artists to the public such as Sandra Kolstad, a well-known Norwegian visual performer and electronic musician; Assula, a visual artist from Danmark; Lex Tit, a mimer and clown from the UK, Helene Boehler with MBira, a fascinating African instrument; Mongolian Jetset, a promising psychedelic musician band from Norway; Mike Gallaher, a US jazz musician and a dance group who is going to surprise the audience with a fusion of Celtic, tribal and belly dancing.

Taking place in a large and open backyard with a café, theater stage, beach lounge and wide space for lighting and projection, Kulquinox is not only promising international cultural highlights but also a vibrant atmosphere for the local culture.

This will be the 4th annual festival. In 2008, Cosmic Wind Cultural Collaborations established a culture house in Stabekk, a district of Oslo. The house quickly became a popular meeting point for important players on the cultural scene and created a community of friends. In that year, Cosmic Wind organized a night of cultural events, offering concerts, light shows, dance, debate, film, gaming and acrobatics. What began as a summer celebration four years ago has now become a festival.

Last year, over 100 artists from different genres took part collaborating, performing and communicating with each other and the audience till the sun showed its first beautiful morning rays.

In addition to a full program including astronomy show, music, visual art, film, ceramic exhibition, dance and poetry for young and old, there was a market place for crafts. Many large and small organizations such as Red Cross Norway; Amnesty International Norway; Kulturtalk, a consulting company in culture, Norsk Taiji Senter and the Baerum Kunst, a local artshop were presenting and promoting themselves and enjoying the surroundings. The festival really began to take shape and find its place in the local life. It also brought possibilities for local enterprises, such as Lykkehaven café-restaurant, which serves ecological food at the festival.

“The purpose of the festival is to create an event with associated workshops, which promotes collaboration across artistic genres and cultural boundaries,” explains Mr. Aamot Wind, one of the collaboration leaders. “Moreover, the festival has a social profile. We encourage people to participate in workshops, shows and activities. We bring people together and thus promote a positive local community.”

Being an artist himself, Wind is probably one of the most noticeable people in the crowd. With dreadlocks rolling down to his knee while interviewing him in a café, he certainty convinced Toonari Post that a unique look is always an attraction to the public. In that sense, he is already a good example of an exhibition object for the coming Kulquinox.

Anders Behring Breivik, the man who massacred 77 people in Norway on July 22, has said he deserves to be set free and that he should receive a medal of honor for the brutal killings. Breivik, 32, has proudly confessed to detonating a fertilizer bomb outside of Oslo government headquarters and for gunning down people at the Labour Party youth camp. However, he has denounced the charges that say his attacks were a  criminal act and refuses to acknowledge the court’s authority.

On Monday, he walked into the Oslo courtroom for the final detention before his trial and raised his handcuffed arms in “some kind of right-wing extremist greeting”, according to his lawyer, Geir Lippestad. Breivik read to the court from his prepared statements and said that the massacre was meant to oppose the “traitors” that welcome immigrants who encourage “an Islamic colonization of Norway”. He asked the court to let him go free and told the judge that he should receive a medal of honor for the slayings.

Breivik stated, “The attacks on the government headquarters were preventative attacks on traitors to the nation, people committing, or planning to commit, cultural destruction, including destruction of Norwegian culture and the Norwegian ethnicity.” He also claimed, “The ethnic Norwegians will be a minority in Oslo in the next 10 years. It is a fact. I represent the Norwegian resistance.”

The 100 survivors and the victims’ family members who witnessed this were shocked by his statements. “It wasn’t good that he got to say what he wanted to say,” said Amel Baltic, a 16-year-old survivor of the Utoya massacre. “It made me irritated.” Some survivors of the attacks are worried that Breivik will use his trial as an excuse to further his extremist views.

Breivik identifies himself as the commander of a militant regime that’s purpose is to cause the downfall of European governments. After they have fallen, a new order will be put into place and Muslim immigrants will be deported. The police have not found any evidence of an organization bent on destroying European governments, however, and think Breivik worked alone.

The judge ruled that he must stay in custody until April 16, which is when his trial will start. He could receive up to 21 years in prison, unless he is diagnosed as mentally ill. Then, he would be sent to a psychiatric prison. The first mental evaluation deemed Breivik criminally insane and psychotic, which drew much criticism. Another evaluation was issued, but Breivik staunchly refused to work with the psychiatrists.

The defense lawyer, Lippestad, thinks Breivik’s comments highlight what is yet to come during the trial. “It’s a preparation for the trial. Much of this case is about his personality,” the lawyer stated.

AJC applauded the Norwegian prime minister for publicly apologizing for his country’s role in the Holocaust. ”Without diminishing the Nazis’ responsibility, it is time to recognize that police and other Norwegians took part in the arrest and deportation of Jews,” said Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. “I find it appropriate to express our deep apology that this could have happened on Norwegian soil.”

The prime minister was speaking yesterday at a Holocaust remembrance ceremony at the site where, 70 years ago, 532 Norwegian Jews were forced onto the Donau ship and sent to Auschwitz. ”During the war, a total of 772 Norwegian Jews and Jewish refugees were arrested and deported. Only 34 survived,” said the prime minister. ”The murders were without a doubt the Nazis’ work, but it was Norwegians who arrested. It was Norwegians who drove the cars. And it happened in Norway.”

Twenty years ago, as the Prime Minister noted, Norway’s parliament provided both private and communal restitution for the “economic liquidation” the Norwegian Jews had been subjected to, which signified, “a moral acceptance of the state’s responsibility” for what had befallen the country’s Jews.

“Now, 20 years later, Prime Minister Stoltenberg has gone an important step further with his expression of regret for the role played by some Norwegians in the Holocaust,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “His words on International Holocaust Remembrance Day are a powerful reminder that the Nazi evil was too often assisted by some locals in occupied countries. We welcome the prime minister’s apology, as well as his forthright call for vigilance against those who continue to hate.”

In his speech, Stoltenberg said, “Seventy years later, it pains me to say that the ideas that led to the Holocaust continue to live on.” He expressed concern that Norwegian Jews have said they live in fear today. “We shall not have it like this in Norway,” said the prime minister. “No one should have to hide his own faith, cultural identity or orientation.”

The Norwegian Vikings also discovered Vinland, The modern America, by 1000 CE — much earlier than Columbus. Although Fjords can be found in many parts of the world, the word originates from Norway, and the western region of Norway is where most of them can be found.

Fjord (the “j” is pronounced like an “y” in English) is one of the few Norwegian words that have been internationalized, especially in English where it is used directly. Fjord comes from the Norse fjǫrðr. This stems, in turn, from the prehistoric Indo-European word prtús, derived from por or per, meaning “go”, “pass” or “to put over on the other side.”

A fjord is a long, narrow and deep bay, usually surrounded by equally steep mountainous terrain. The largest fjords extend 200 kilometers (125 miles) inland and go around 1300 m (4265 feet) deep. In July 2005, a number of Norwegian Fjords were added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The outstanding landscape was inscribed in the list due to its unique natural quality and beauty.

Sognefjord is believed to hold the most beautiful fjord landscapes in the world. The depth varies between 10 and 500 meters and the surrounding mountains are up to more than 1400 meters high. Sognefjord has more than 1300 meter deep at the deepest. Numerous beautiful waterfalls and rivers characterize the landscape, crossing the rocky mountains, deciduous and coniferous forests on their way down to the fjords.

Stunning villages with a sustained cultivated landscape with remainders of old farms and mountain meadows and unique cultural monuments give an extra dimension to the dramatic natural landscape. A fjord is formed when a glacier cuts a U-shaped valley by grazing the surrounding substratum through several ice ages.

Glacial melting is complemented by the ricochet of the Earth’s crust as the ice load and eroded sediment is removed. In some cases this rebound is faster than the sea level rises. Most fjords are deeper than the adjacent sea. Fjords generally have a sill or rise at their mouth caused by the previous glacier’s terminal moraine, in many cases causing extreme currents and large saltwater rapids.

Saltstraumen in Norway is often described as the world’s strongest tidal current. These characteristics distinguish fjords from rias, which are drowned valleys flooded by the rising sea. In 2000, some coral reefs were found along the bottoms of the Norwegian fjords. These reefs were found in fjords from the north of Norway to the south.

The nautical life on the reefs is said to be one of the most important reasons of why the Norwegian shoreline is such an important fishing ground. Since this discovery is objectively new, little research has been done. The reefs are the home to thousands of lifeforms such as plankton, coral, anemones, fish, sharks and many more species.

Most are adapted to life under the greater pressure of the water column above it, and the total darkness of the seemingly bottomless sea. In some places near the seaward margins of areas with fjords, the ice-scoured channels are so many and varied in direction that the rocky coast is divided into thousands of island wedges, some are large and rugged, while others are merely rocky points or rock reefs that are difficult to navigate.

These are called skerries. The skerry term is derived from the Old Norse sker, which means a rock in the sea. Skerries are most commonly formed at the channel of fjords where glacially formed valleys that are perpendicular to the coast join with other cross valleys in a complex grouping.

The island fringe of Norway is such a group of skerries (skjærgård); many of the cross fjords are so arranged  parallel the coast and provide a safe canal behind an almost endless chain of rocky islands and skerries. By this canal one can travel through a protected passage almost the entire 1,601 kilometers (995 miles) route from Stavanger to North Cape, Norway.

The Blindleia is a skerry-protected waterway that starts near Kristiansand in southern Norway.

Norwegian police took the self-confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik back to Utøya island to stage a reconstruction of his slaughter of 69 people last month.

“We were able to animate his memory with regard to what happened out there,” police prosecutor Paal-Fredrik Hjort Kraby told reporters, adding that many new details emerged in the eight-hour journey around the island.

The victims had been attending an island summer camp run by the youth wing of Norway’s Labour party, which Breivik condemned in a rambling manifesto. Most of the victims were in their teens or 20s, and some were shot while attempting to swim to safety.

Despite Breivik’s admission that he committed the attacks, Kraby said an extensive reconstruction was needed to show survivors and relatives exactly what happened and also to clarify details of the attack that would be presented at Breivik’s trial, expected to begin next year.

“It’s important they get to know as much as possible about what happened on the island, even if it has to come from the suspect himself,” Kraby said. “We’re seeking as many details as possible about each killing.”

Breivik was wearing a bulletproof vest and a leash held by a guard while he returned to the scenic Norwegian island through a simulation of his actions.

Moreover, a police helicopter was circling and commandos were armed and ready for action while Breivik returned to Utøya aboard a ferry similar to the one he had taken the day of the attacks.

He wasn’t wearing handcuffs in order to give him greater freedom of movement during the simulation, Kraby said.
Breivik showed police how he stalked his victims at times holding up his arms as if pretending to take aim at fleeing members of that political youth camp who were his targets on the island of Utøya.

Parts of the simulation were recorded and broadcast by the Norwegian media. The frightening pictures, which showed Breivik in action brought back the memory of the terror from that rainy afternoon on July 22. The video of the simulation posted on the website of the newspaper VG shows him pointing an imaginary rifle into the water to show how he shot his victims.

The 32-year old self-described Christian crusader was calm and co-operative as police prosecutor said. ”The suspect showed he was not unmoved by being back on Utøya,” Kraby said. ”But he did not show any remorse.”

Breivik has admitted to plotting and carrying out the attack as well as detonating a bomb a few hours earlier that killed eight people inOslo. Most of his victims were affiliated with the Labour Party, the leader of the country’s governing coalition, which has helped turnNorwayinto a haven for asylum seekers.

Survivors of the gun attack which claimed the lives of 69 people last month at Utøya revisited the massacre scene a few days ago in the company of families and friends of those who died.

About 500 people visited the island in light rain. As many as 1,500 people are expected to visit over the weekend (20-21 August) including the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg.

Survivors and victims, who were not allowed into the court hearing, were represented by lawyers. Breivik could face a 21-year prison sentence if found guilty of terrorism charges, but that could be extended indefinitely if he is still deemed to pose a threat to the public.

The massacre in Norway has dominated media attention. The unexplained killings are horrific and tragic. Within minutes of the news, the speculation about the gunman began in the United States. He was labeled, almost immediately, as a Muslim. This says more about us as a nation than the tragedy in Norway. However, the gunman turned out to be a Christian- a white, blond-haired Christian. So much for the new stereotypical boogeyman.

But, Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly was not happy with the Christian label. O’Reilly criticized the media for labeling Anders Behring-Breivik, the Norwegian killer, as a Christian, saying that such a thing was “impossible.” Even though Breivik labeled himself a Christian in his 1,500 page manifesto and stated he was coming from a Christian perspective. The Norwegian police also called Breivik a Christian. However, this was not enough evidence for Mr. O’Reilly.

“No one believing in Jesus commits mass murder,” O’Reilly said on his Fox show Monday. “The man might have called himself a Christian on the net, but he is certainly not of that faith…we can find no evidence, none, that this killer practiced Christianity in any way.” This was said with a complete straight face. No one believing in Jesus commits mass murder? Seriously? The list is endless but the Crusades sort of stand out to me.

O’Reilly particularly criticized the New York Times for calling Breivik a “Christian extremist.”

“So why is the angle being played up? Two reasons: First, the liberal media wants to make an equivalency between the actions of Breivik and the Oklahoma City bomber Tim McVeigh and al Qaeda. The left wants you to believe that fundamentalists Christians are a threat just like crazy jihadists are,” O’Reilly stated.

“In fact, in the “New York Times” today an analysis piece says that some believe we have overreacted to the Muslim threat in the world. Of course, that’s absurd. Jihadists have killed tens of thousands of people all over the world. The Taliban, Iran and elements in Pakistan use governmental power to support terrorism by Muslims. But the left-wing press wants to compare nuts like Breivik and McVeigh to state-sponsored terrorism and worldwide jihad.”

O’Reilly called this media attack “dishonest and insane.”

The man behind the bombing and mass shooting which resulted in the death of 76 people in Norway on Friday has revealed to his lawyer, Geir Lippestad, that he believes he is a ‘savior’ of Norway and Europe. The attorney told the Associated Press in an interview that he believes his client is “ insane” but did not know if he was going to use an insanity defense.

Apparently, Anders Behring Breivik is unaware of the impact his actions have had and he asked his attorney how many people he had killed — a question Mr. Lippestad said he did not answer.

In a statement to AP, Lippestad explained “His reason [for the attacks] is that he wants to start a war against democracy, against the Muslims in the world, and as he said he wants to liberate Europe and the Western world.”

“He asked me if I was shocked and if I would explain to him what happened,” Lippestad continued. “He didn’t know if he had succeeded with his plan.”

The Huffington Post reported that Breivik has admitted to taking drugs to boost his performance during the killing spree and believes his ‘operation’ has gone according to plan. “He expects that this is a start of a war that will last for 60 years. But his mind is very [...] well I don’t want to comment more on his mind, but that’s what he believes,” said Lippestad, who himself is a member of the targeted Labour Party. “He looks upon himself as a warrior. And he started this war, and takes some kind of pride in that.”

Breivik has insinuated that he is part of a wider network across Europe called ‘Knights Templar’ which is dedicated to what the 32-year-old has described as ‘anti-jihad’ in his 1,500-page manifesto. However, police have stated that they believe he acted alone, despite no conclusive evidence excluding accomplices. European security officials have in any case heightened their awareness of far-right statements online.

On Tuesday, the Norwegian police began publishing the names of some of the victims, revealing devastating last minutes before death. Gunnar Linaker, 23, was on the phone with his father when Breivik opened fire. Roald Linaker told AP “He said to me: ‘Dad, dad, someone is shooting,’ and then he hung up.”

More names will be revealed in the coming days as victims are being identified and their relatives informed.

The 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik who took responsibility for the twin attacks in Norway on Friday, appeared in court Monday, admitting to the massacre but denying the terrorism charges.

The charges against him refer to ‘destabilizing vital functions of society, including government, and causing serious fear in the population’, according to the BBC. Breivik had requested to wear a uniform to the hearing but was denied by the court. He had asked for full media presence, but this was also denied as Judge Kim Heger ruled that Breivik might be using the opportunity to signal yet unidentified accomplices.

According to the Norwegian penal code, the crimes of the right-wing extremist can result in up to 21 years of prison, but the Norwegian police is considering charging the attack according to a revised section of the law that refers to crimes against humanity. One of the clauses in the 2008 revision includes the persecution of a group based on their political convictions. This could give Breivik up to 30 years in prison.

So far, Breivik has to remain eight weeks in custody under a letter-, visitation- and media ban. Four of these weeks will be in total isolation. During the hearing, he recognized that he would be spending the rest of his life in prison.

According to Breivik’s lawyer, the 32-year-old does not believe his act was wrong. Breivik also claimed that people would try to shoot him on the way to the hearing and is under the impression that torture is common practice in Norwegian prisons. “He has a different understanding of how it is to be in prison, completely removed from reality,” said his lawyer, Geir Lippestad.

The prosecutor Christian Hatlo, described Breivik’s appearance in court as ‘calm’. “He had a great need to explain why he had done what he did. He was to some extend allowed to do so but once he started to read from his alleged manifest, and that started to drag on, he was interrupted by the judge.”

Breivik had argued that he “was acting to save Norway and Europe from ‘Marxist and Muslim colonisation’” and according to a BBC report, he claimed that his operation was aimed specifically at Norway’s governing Labour Party. He accuses them of failing the country on immigration.

Two psychiatrists have been appointed to assess Breivik’s mental health.

The Norwegian police announced during a press conference that Anders Behring Breivik, the 32-years-old Norwegian man arrested on Friday and charged over the bomb attack in Oslo and the massacre at Utøya Island, have confessed.

Breivik killed 85 people in the shooting at the annual summer camp of the country’s ruling Labour party of Utøya, and seven were the victims of the bombing in the government quarter in center of the capital Oslo. Five are the people still missing and 20 those seriously injured. Thus, the death toll could rise further in the next hours.

On his Facebook page the killer described himself has Christian and conservative, with a passion for hunting and war videogames. He was defined by the police a “Christian fundamentalist” strongly hostile to Islam. According to the Norwegian press the man was also tied to extreme-right groups.

On the web site www.document.no he published some posts which show his nationalist ideas and his aversion to multicultural society. More than one year ago in a post he defined the labourist Gro Harlem Brundlandt, who had been Prime Minister for three legislatures between 1981 and 1996, as the “killer of the country”.  She also participated at the Labour party’s rally at Utøya on Friday and made a speech a few hours before the shooting.

Owning a farm Breivik could buy a kind of fertilizer that can also be used to make bombs, and practicing hunting we could own several registered weapons.

An eyewitness reported there was another killer at the island, but it’s not clear yet if he had a partner or not.

This afternoon, a bomb exploded in the capital of Norway outside the offices of Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and a number of surrounding buildings. An eyewitness reportedly saw the blast shattering all the windows in the high-rise building. “I saw three or four injured people being carried out of the building a few minutes later,” Ole Tommy Pedersen told AP.

Within 45 minutes, the city centre was evacuated and the police confirmed that people had been killed. Both police and military was on the scene and the injured were treated in the streets.

According to the New York Times, the terror group Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Meanwhile, a youth camp linked to the leading Norwegian Labour party was involved in a shooting outside Oslo and it is believed that the two events could be linked. Norwegian police have confirmed that at least 30 people have been killed in the camp shooting when an unknown gunman, dressed as a police officer, opened fire indiscriminately on the attendees. The camp was taking place on the island Utoeyais and some tried to flee the violence by jumping into the water.

Seven people have so far died from the bombing in Oslo and two are badly injured. Residents are advised to stay at home.

During the initial international military operation in Libya, the coalition forces engaged in operation Odyssey Dawn between March 19-31. However, the operation was essentially a code word for actions of war disguised as humanitarian aid. The allied forces collaborated against Muammar Gaddafi on their mission of ‘liberation’ to save the people of Libya from their ‘bloodthirsty’ oppressor, forgetting that for several years they had a civil relationship and strong political and financial bonds with the very same man.

At the beginning, NATO’s participation and exactly who was going to be heading the mission, was a mystery. However, within a few days, France’s PM Nicola Sarkozy, took the lead in this operation. “Sarkozy likes nothing better than a crisis, a fight and a gamble,” said Financial Times columnist Peggy Hollinger. “With his approval ratings at an all-time low, this Libyan intervention could be just what he needs to revive his faltering popularity at home.” However, without the firepower of the United States in the form of Tomahawk Cruise Missiles and aircraft carrier based aircraft, nothing would have been achieved. For the U.S., Odyssey Dawn was a coming out party for America’s newest military formation, African Command (Africom). It is no accident that at the very moment that African oil reserves are becoming a major source for the United States, Washington should create a military formation for the continent. It is very important to keep in mind that the control of energy resources is always central to U.S. strategy, and with world reserves declining, the scramble to hold the petroleum high ground is always part of the agenda.

The big argument for the operation leadership was between France and England, while the Americans made their involvement obvious via missiles but reiterated that they did not intend to deploy any soldier into Libya. Washington, Paris, and London concluded that Muammar Gaddafi is not a target himself, even though his palace in Tripoli had been under attack. A missile also landed just 50 meters away of the famous tent that he used to welcome the foreign leaders in.

The types and numbers of forces against Gaddafi were massive. France, Britain, United States, Canada, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Norway and Qatar and United Arab Emirates comprised an undefeatable opponent against Gaddafi’s forces.

I’m wondering, what kind of humanitarian mission consists of fighting as well as spying aircrafts, aircraft carriers, submarines, battle cruisers, tankers, and a rain of missiles?

On the other hand, regarding Libyan forces, colonel Gaddafi is considered to have a personal army consisting of thousands of members, much more than a   simple army. However, we cannot be sure how many of them have defected so far. They have tanks, aircrafts, armed and armored vehicles for transportation, submarines, armed ships, and picket boats at their disposal. Although, many of them are either destroyed or useless.

Is this another war for oil? We all know the scenario and the answer is probably affirmative. Curiosity, somehow wouldn’t let me rest, and after a little research a dilemma suddenly appeared – Was the Libyan war being pursued for  obtaining black gold or for water?

One conspiracy theory, called New World Order (NWO), seems to suggest a link. Between the lines, since the beginning of the past century, oil magnates created a cartel to take control of all oil reserves around the planet, as well as  take some of them out of production. Nevertheless, some years ago the NWO conspirators reached the conclusion that very soon oil would be replaced as the Earth’s most valuable resource by another, less suspected one. Instead,  that valuable resources will be pure, sweet drinking water. Of course, water is an abundant resource with enough on this planet to satisfy the needs of many times the current levels of population. But, exactly as they did with oil, another abundant resource, they plan to make drinking water artificially scarce by having control over its main sources.

So, why Libya?  In late 1983, Qaddafi created the Great Man-Made River Authority. The job of the authority was to take water from the aquifers in the south, and bring it in the most efficient and economic way to the Libyan coastal belt. In 1996, the Great Man-Made River Project, reached one of its final stages, and a huge amount of sweet, unpolluted water began reaching the homes and gardens of the citizens of Libya’s capital Tripoli. The rest I leave to you.

I do not assume that all these are necessarily truth, but I believe it is important to have as much information as possible so we can make up our minds more accurately.
