The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

After twenty-one hours of deliberation the jury in the Jerry Sandusky trial found Sandusky guilty on forty-five of the remaining forty-eight counts against him. His sentencing could be over four hundred years. These guilty verdicts prove that the jury rejected the defense’s claim that the victims were lying to win money in a civil suit.

The biggest fear for the victims and their families was that Sandusky would be found innocent, according to ABC News.

Victim 1′s mother stated, “it was very hard on [my son]. Even after therapy, he doesn’t feel comfortable saying what happened to him to me.” Victim 1 was the first to come forward in this recent investigation of Sandusky. Another investigation began in 1998 but was later dropped.

The mother of Victim 1 said that her son has been seeking out counseling at the foundation “Let Go…Let Peace Come In.” According to the director of the foundation, Peter Pelullo, “what people don’t really understand is when we’re touched like that as a child… part of our brain just shuts down and we need mental help and care to connect those brain stems, which were completely burned out.”

Sandusky was found guilty of forty-five of forty-eight child molestation related charges. Originally he was charged with fifty-two but one was withdrawn by the prosecution and three were dismissed by the judge. The charges range over ten victims and fifteen years.

The jury seems to have been unconvinced by the testimony of Dottie Sandusky. She appeared as a loving and loyal wife but refused to admit that the abuse was going on.

Sandusky’s lawyers claim that they will try to appeal the verdict citing several different reasons as grounds. The defense lawyers tried to have themselves removed from the Sandusky case at one point and also claimed that they did not have enough time to prepare their case. Perhaps the only grounds that would be considered by the courts is a tape that was misleadingly edited by NBC; however, ABC News claims the video will most likely be called a harmless error.

Juror Joshua Harper stated after the trial, “I looked at him during the reading of the verdict, and the look on his face, no real emotion, just kind of accepting, you know, because he knew it was true.” After the trial the jurors heard that Matt Sandusky had come forward during their deliberations to say that he was also a victim of his adoptive father. Harper stated, “we were all basically told at the same time, we heard about it at the same time, and we were just looking at each other like we had suspected that but we had no evidence of it. It just solidified our decision.”

Now that Sandusky has been found guilty it is likely that Penn State, The Second Mile, and Sandusky will be sued by the victims and their families. During the case it was revealed that Head Coach Joe Paterno as well as Vice President Schultz at Penn State knew about Sandusky’s crimes. The only action Penn State took was to take away Sandusky’s keys to the locker room and to tell his foundation The Second Mile; no one called law enforcement.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

After staying silent for more than six months Dottie Sandusky broke her silence on June 19 in defense of her husband, assistant coach for the Penn State football team Jerry Sandusky. Jerry Sandusky has been charged with forty-eight counts (four counts were dismissed) of sexual abuse with ten different victims and will serve five hundred years in prison if found guilty.

Dottie Sandusky, born Dorothy Gross, met Sandusky in Washington, Pennsylvania and the couple got married shortly thereafter in 1966. They were unable to have children of their own so they adopted six children together. She maintains her husband’s innocence and claims that she never heard or saw anything suspicious.

Paul DerOhannesian, a defense attorney from Albany, New York, claimed that Dottie Sandusky would provide, “a more favorable image of Sandusky as someone attracted to his wife, as someone who had a genuine care and interest in children, and to portray more elements of Sandusky’s life than the jury has heard.”

However, after the witness testimony from the defense many agree with experts that she may have been unaware or in denial of the abuse. Dr. Martin Finkel, a pediatrician who has worked for more than thirty years with sexually abused children, says that Dottie Sandusky could be denying her suspicions because she is afraid of the humiliation and the loss of financial security. Finkel added, “none of this stuff that happens to kids ever happens in the public arena. It always has to happen in the context of secrecy. It has to happen out of sight. The intent on the part of the perpetrator obviously is not to get caught.”

Several victims have mentioned Dottie Sandusky in their testimonies. Victim 9 claimed that he screamed for help during at least one of the abuses from Sandusky while he was in the basement of the Sandusky home. Victim 9 claims that he stayed in the Sandusky home basement around one hundred times during which time Sandusky fondled him, forced him to have oral sex, and raped him. Dottie Sandusky said that not only did she never hear anything but that the basement is not soundproofed at all and that she has good hearing, implying that Victim 9, now eighteen, is lying.

Another victim claimed that Dottie Sandusky walked in on Jerry Sandusky trying to force the victim to perform oral sex in a hotel bathroom at Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. Dottie Sandusky claims that the victim is lying and that they both were fully clothed.

After nine days of trial the jury began deliberations on June 21. Since the jury has forty-eight counts of abuse to sift through they will probably be deliberating for quite a long time.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The Sandusky trial has heard the testimonies of several victims who met Sandusky through his charitable organization for at-risk youth, The Second Mile. Sandusky has been charged with fifty-two counts of sexual abuse over a ten year period and will serve five hundred years if he is found guilty. The victims, although identified by name in the trial, do not wish to have their identities revealed.

Victim 5 was only abused once by Sandusky in 1998. He was referred to The Second Mile to improve his spoken English. Sandusky invited the boy to some football games and then to work out with him. After working out for a short time, Sandusky suggested they take a shower. According to the victim, Sandusky “threw some soap at me and started lathering my shoulders. I crept forward a little bit more, as did he, and I felt his body on my back. I kept lurching forward but I didn’t have anywhere to go.”

Victim 6 met Sandusky in 1998 around the age of eleven. His interactions with Sandusky resulted in an investigation in 1998 but no charges were filed. According to the victim Sandusky “bear-hugged” him in the locker-room shower after practicing wrestling moves with the coach for about fifteen minutes. The victim testified “I felt uncomfortable with it, but it was Jerry Sandusky so I didn’t want to make him move.” When Sandusky started to soap him up he felt even more uncomfortable stating, “at that point, it just was escalating the uncomfortableness but I was just trying not to make him feel that I was feeling a bit awkward about it.” Shortly after the bear-hug the victim claims he blacked out. “[the bear hug] is the last thing I remember about being in the shower. It’s all black.”

Victim 6 maintained contact with Sandusky including texting him on Father’s day, borrowing his car, getting tickets to games, and going on a mission trip to Mexico. The Penn State police investigated Sandusky after the boy’s mother became suspicious; however, no files were charged and there was no further sexual contact reported.

Ronald Schreffler, a former detective for Penn State, said that he eavesdropped on conversations with Sandusky and the boy’s mother and heard the assistant coach tell her, “I wish I could ask for forgiveness. I know I will not get it from you. I wish I were dead.” Shortly thereafter Schreffler recommended to Sandusky that he should not shower with boys again; Sandusky agreed saying he had used “bad judgment.”

The defense claims that although Sandusky has acted somewhat unseemly and inappropriately, he is not a molester. Instead, the defense claims that all of the victims are lying to get money from the university and Sandusky. Sandusky’s defense originally attempted to dismiss the letters from Victim 4 as evidence. Now the defense is using the letters to explain that Sandusky is mentally ill, claiming that they will “explain that the words, tones, requests, and statements made in the letters are consistent with a person who suffers from a Histrionic Personality Disorder.”

The National Institute of Health states that people with Histrionic Personality Disorder “act in a very emotional and dramatic way that draws attention to themselves.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The Sandusky trial, which began June 11, has heard the testimony of eight victims. The trial ended June 14, earlier than expected, but with plenty of testimony and evidence presented by the prosecution. Jerry Sandusky is charged with fifty-two counts of sexual abuse over a ten year period. He will serve five hundred years if he is found guilty of all of them.

Although the victims are identified by name in the trial, none of them wished to be revealed in the public. The Toonari Post will only refer to the victims by numbers.

Victim 1, currently 18, met Sandusky through Sandusky’s charitable organization, The Second Mile, a charity for at-risk youth. Victim 1 claimed that he stayed in the basement at Sandusky’s house more than one hundred times. Sandusky would come down to the basement to say goodnight and began making contact with the boy by kissing him on the cheek or forehead. Sandusky’s contact eventually escalated to more explicitly sexual contact when Victim 1 testified that Sandusky “rub[bed] underneath my shorts” and “put his mouth on my privates.” The victim testified that Sandusky said, “’it’s your turn’” and then the victim added, “he made me put my mouth on his privates.”

Mike McQueary, the assistant coach of the Penn State Football team, testified that he saw Sandusky performing what he believed was anal sex with a boy in the team showers. The victim, known as Victim 2, has not been found by authorities, according to Fox News. The incident reportedly took place in February 2001, although McQueary originally believed it was 2002. McQueary told school officials about the incident but never actually used the phrase ‘anal sex’ because he was too “embarrassed.”

Victim 3 testifed that he slept over at Sandusky’s house over fifty times in a three year period (1998-2001). The boy met Sandusky when he was eleven years old. He stated that the coach would tickle him, blow on his stomach, kiss his shoulder, and would sometimes touch his penis. He testified that at one point Sandusky “pinned me to the floor, pulled down my gym shorts, and started to perform oral sex on me.” Victim 3 also stated that he showered with Sandusky in the Penn State University showers and that Sandusky would soap him up and bear-hug him from behind and from the front. After the victim was put into foster care, he stopped hearing from Sandusky.

Victim 4, who is now 28, -like most of Sandusky’s victims – also met Sandusky through The Second Mile. Victim 4 stated that he had no parental supervision before Sandusky entered his life. This is similar to the situations of the other victims according to statements they made about foster care and absent fathers. Victim 4 claimed that he regularly gave Sandusky oral sex in the showers stating, “it would have to be forty times, at least.” Sandusky also tried to penetrate him in the shower and would caress him and kiss his thighs. The victim also claimed that Sandusky would buy him cigarettes and drove him to buy marijuana. “He treated me like a son in front of other people. Outside of that, he’s treating me like a girlfriend.”

Victim 4 claims that the abuse began at the age of fourteen and occurred in the athletic building at Penn State, Toftrees Golf Resort and Hotels, and trips to Florida and Texas for football games. Sandusky wrote letters to Victim 4. One states: “I know that I have made my share of mistakes…My wish is that you care and have love in your heart. Love never ends.”

The star linebacker for Penn State, Arrington, knew Victim 4 well and originally denied the allegations against Sandusky. However, after hearing the details of the trial Arrington wrote an apology in the Washington Post stating, “I hate everything that has happened, and now I must admit I feel even worse, knowing what allegedly was happening so close to me, and that I was unaware…All I can do is hope that Victim 4 finds this entry and can see that I’m offering my sincerest apologies. I am so sorry this happened.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The jury selection began 5 June 2012 for the trial of ex-assistant football coach at Pennsylvania State University, Jerry Sandusky. Sandusky, age 68, is charged with fifty-two counts of sexual abuse of ten boys over a fifteen year period. Sandusky has admitted to showering with some of the young boys but has denied allegations of sexual abuse.

Sandusky was arrested in November of 2010, which threw the Penn State community into chaos. Riots began after Sandusky, Head Coach Paterno, and president of the university, Graham Spanier, were fired. Paterno and Spanier were both fired due to their attempts to try cover up the allegations. Riots broke out in protest of the firing of the head coach, as Penn State has a history of dedicated and proud fans.

Mike McQueary, another Penn State assistant coach who is currently on leave from the team, claims that he saw Sandusky naked in a team shower with a young boy in 2002. McQueary reportedly told head coach Paterno and athletic direct Tim Curley but no one told the police. Paterno died of lung cancer in January 2012, but Curley has since been charged with perjury and failing to report a crime along with senior vice president of finance and business at Penn State Gary Schultz.

The judge has denied appeals by the defense to delay the trial but he also required that the trial remain in the Penn State area, making it difficult to find jurors who are not connected to the Penn State football team or to Sandusky’s charity, Second Mile. One middle-aged woman who has been selected as a juror was a season ticket holder to the Penn State football team; some wonder how this will color her perceptions of the case.

The judge has also declared that Twitter and email reporting from the courtroom will not be allowed. Additionally, the judge has rejected allowing the ten boys to use pseudonyms meaning that they must use their real names at trial. One lawyer for one of the victims claimed, “it’s almost as if [the victim is] being branded with a scarlet letter.” However the judge claimed, “secrecy is thought to be inconsistent with the openness required to assure the public that the law is being administered fairly and applied faithfully.”

Since Sandusky’s arrest in November even more victims have come forward. Many of these victims met Sandusky through his Second Mile Foundation – created in 1977 – a charity for at-risk children.

According to a recently released report, in 1998 a psychologist, Alycia Chambers, told police that Sandusky was likely a pedophile. Chambers was involved in the investigation of a case in 1998 when a mother alleged that Sandusky had showered with her son. No arrests were made at the time although the mother did confront Sandusky who reportedly stated, “I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won’t get it from you. I wish I were dead.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Once news broke that Josh McDaniels was re-hired as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator, most assumed that he would be joining the team next year, not next week in a divisional playoff matchup against the quarterback he once drafted, Tim Tebow.

Although current coordinator, Bill O’Brien, agreed to become the new head coach at Penn State last Saturday, it was determined that he would still retain the role of New England’s offensive coordinator throughout this postseason. McDaniels, who had previously held the position for the Pats from 2006-2008, was chosen as his replacement shortly after and will shockingly serve the coaching staff as an offensive assistant beginning Saturday night with a trip to the AFC title game on the line against the Broncos.

Adding a new coach right before a huge postseason showdown is already an interesting move to begin with, but considering the fact that McDaniels brought in Tebow and coached Denver from 2009-2010, it is raising even more eyebrows across the league. Many are outraged by the idea of McDaniels possibly being able to provide New England new information about Tebow specifically.

That concept should not be too large of a concern, though. New England did an excellent job of containing Tebow’s heroic antics, handily defeating Denver on the road 41-23 back in Week 15, without McDaniels’ assistance. Tebow threw for just 194 yards that day, as the Pats were able to easily overcome an early deficit.

Still, that does not justify what New England has attempted to do coming into this crucial game. Hiring someone who once coached or played for your opponent is not a crime in sports. If anything, it is gamesmanship, as we have seen it occur countless times. However, the timing concept in this scenario is absolutely absurd.

Imagine if this happened to your team. With so much at stake in a do-or-die situation, would you not be livid knowing that the team you are battling against has inside information as to what you were trying to do – and that they were able to bring the informant in just days before?

The fact that the NFL allows teams to add unnecessary pieces to their coaching staffs in the middle of the postseason is simply unbelievable. We have never seen anything like this take place in other major sports, so why does this league think that it is acceptable, especially when preparation plays a bigger role than it does in any other sport?

If a team has to have a strict playoff roster set before the end of the regular season, then it should go the same way for coaches as well. The role that they play for their teams needs to be more respected.

Unfortunately, we are not psychics, so we cannot outright proclaim that actions like these really do change the outcomes of games. Instead of giving the fans, players, and coaches alike something to strongly complain about, do not give them the opportunity at all by forcing coaching staffs to remain the same during the postseason.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The ten worst media disasters of 2011 include a politician who lost his place, a country singer who lost his job, and a celebrity who lost his show. The list was published December 14 on the Mr. Media Training Blog, the world’s most visited media training website.

The media spokespersons were selected based on the impact of their gaffes. All ten people reinforced an existing narrative about their lack of preparedness for office, their lack of discipline, or their lack of compassion. Videos of all ten media disasters are available at http://www.mrmediatraining.com/index.php/2011/12/14/the-ten-worst-media-disasters-of-2011/.

10. Hank Williams, Jr. Compares President Obama to Adolf Hitler

In October, country singer Hank Williams, Jr. was fired up during an appearance on Fox and Friends. While reflecting on a golf match between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, Mr. Williams quipped, “It would be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu.” ESPN promptly dropped his theme song as its Monday Night Football opener.

9. Sarah Palin’s “Blood Libel”

Months before Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) was shot in Tucson, Former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) released a “crosshairs map,” which placed a target over Ms. Giffords’ congressional district. In the days after the shooting, Ms. Palin was blamed by some journalists for the shooting.

Palin was upset by media stories connecting her to the crime; she was right that no evidence linked the shooter to her map. But she over-reacted, gracelessly blaming the media for committing “blood libel.” That term is most commonly used as an anti-Semitic slur referring to Jews murdering Christians. Her poll numbers immediately plummeted among Independents and Republicans.

8. NPR Fundraiser Ron Schiller Blasts The Tea Party

National Public Radio’s chief fundraiser, Ron Schiller, went to lunch with a couple of men claiming to be Muslim donors in March. It turned out they were Republican activists with a hidden camera. During the meal, Schiller called members of the Tea Party, “seriously racist, racist people.”

That he made those comments was bad enough; that he made them while NPR was already in the midst of a heated debate about its public funding was flabbergasting. His comments led to his immediate resignation and the resignation of NPR’s CEO. The House of Representatives voted to strip NPR of its federal funding; the Senate prevented that from happening – for now.

7. Rupert Murdoch Channels Tony Hayward

While testifying before the British Parliament in July, News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch was asked whether he accepted the ultimate responsibility for his company’s phone hacking scandal. Not only did he say “no,” but he delivered his answer without even a hint of humility. By delivering such an indifferent answer, he gave former BP Executive Tony “I’d like my life back” Hayward competition as the world’s most clueless corporate executive.

6. Rick Perry’s “Oops” Moment

During a Republican presidential debate in November, Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) confidently declared he would eliminate three government agencies – and promptly forgot what they were. For 47 painful seconds, Mr. Perry tried to recall the third agency he would eliminate. He finally gave up, shrugged his shoulders, and lamely said, “Oops.” That one moment likely sank any remaining chances Mr. Perry had of winning the nomination.

5. President Obama Jokes About Joblessness

With the nation’s unemployment rate above nine percent and millions of Americans desperate to find work, President Obama cracked a joke in June that few people found funny. When a questioner asked a serious question about the nation’s inefficient permitting process, Mr. Obama cracked wise about his two-year-old pledge to create shovel-ready jobs, joking, “Shovel-ready was not as shovel-ready as we expected.” Many people blasted the President for displaying an insensitive political tin ear.

4. Charlie Sheen’s Downward Spiral

There’s little funny about addiction, and Charlie Sheen’s dangerous spiral was sad to watch. Sheen stayed in the news for months, but it was his out-of-touch interview with sycophantic radio host Alex Jones in February that led to his dismissal from his top-rated sitcom, Two and a Half Men.

In that interview, Sheen made vaguely anti-Semitic comments about “Men” creator Chuck Lorre, called Alcoholics Anonymous a “bootleg cult,” and labeled Thomas Jefferson a “pussy.”

3. The Herman Cain Affair

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was caught flat-footed in October when numerous women accused him of sexual harassment (another woman later asserted she had had a long-term affair with him).

Mr. Cain changed his story on an almost-hourly basis, even arguing that a “settlement” meant something different than an “agreement.” Mr. Cain dropped out of the race in December, maintaining his innocence to a public that no longer believed him.

2. (Alleged) Penn State Child Rapist Jerry Sandusky Speaks

When former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky spoke to NBC’s Bob Costas in November about horrific allegations that he raped numerous boys, no one was prepared for his jaw-dropping answer to this direct question: “Are you sexually attracted to young boys?” It took Sandusky 16 seconds to say “no.”

Instead, he began by saying how much he “enjoyed” young people and loves to be around them. Sandusky’s alleged actions, combined with Penn State’s ineffectual response, led to the firings of the University president and legendary football coach Joe Paterno.

1. Anthony Weiner’s Twitter Scandal

Self-immolations rarely come in more spectacular fashion than when Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) was caught tweeting naughty photos to strangers in June.

His approach to crisis management was to deny the charges and claim his Twitter account had been hacked; call a reporter a “jackass;” say that although he hadn’t sent the photos, he couldn’t rule out “with certitude” that the erect undies shot was of him; hold a tearful press conference to admit he had actually tweeted the photos himself; watch helplessly as a nude photo of his penis was released; and resign in shame.

After Mr. Weiner resigned, a Republican won his seat, costing Democrats a critical seat in the House of Representatives.

Quarterback Taylor Martinez helped get the ball down the field, throwing for 144 yards on 13 catches with no interceptions. Penn State running back Stephfon Green got the only two touchdowns for his team, while quarterback Matt McGloin moved the ball downfield 192 yards on 16 catches.

With no offensive action in the first quarter, the Cornhuskers were the first to make a change on the scoreboard with a 41-yard field goal by Brett Maher five minutes into the second quarter, and a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Ameer Abdullah in the final minute of the half.

Nebraska scored yet again in the early minutes of the third quarter with Rex Burkhead rushing 14 yards for a touchdown, making the score 17-0. However, Penn state showed signs of life later on in the third quarter with Stephfon Green running five yards for a touchdown that brought them ten points away from the lead going into the final quarter.

After several pushes for more points, the Nittany Lions were able to bring themselves three points away from tying up the game with Green rushing for another touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Penn State was able to get the ball back in the final minute of the game. However, in the final seconds and after several Hail Mary attempts, the Nittany Lions were unable to get the ball down the field to get the final points that they needed. In the end, Nebraska won the game 17-14.

This game was the first Penn State has played since the firing of their head coach, Joe Paterno, who had been coaching the Nittany Lions since 1966. He holds the record for the most Division 1-A wins with 409 and the most bowl wins with 24 in his career. The Nebraska Cornhuskers (8-2) travel to face the Michigan Wolverines next Saturday, while the Penn State Nittany Lions (8-2) travel to face Ohio State.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Throughout this entire scandal from the outset up until the recent firing of Penn State football head coach Joe Paterno, Paterno has done nothing aside from showing the arrogance, stubbornness, and selfishness that most people thought they’d never see from the beloved man who Penn State fans call “JoePa.”

Just as he failed to act 10 years ago when information was brought to him in regards to the atrocities that Jerry Sandusky was committing in the Penn State football complex, he has again failed to help the situation again.

As more and more people read over the pages of grand jury testimony and absorb and dissect the information, Paterno managed to take the spotlight away from the victims, the children who endured the abuse and have since been dealing with it, and put it on himself and the storied football program.

Failing to really comment, other than saying he was “absolutely devastated” by the case and that his heart went out to the victims, Paterno has made this about the school and football, continuing to do things his way much like he has done for the past 46 years as a larger than life football coach.

While Sandusky is the alleged criminal here, and will be punished by law, if found guilty of the 40 counts of felony sex abuse against minors, Paterno is and should be held to a much higher standard though “legally” he did nothing wrong.

No matter how you look at it, there is no defense for a man, or any of the people who were in positions of power, that had the chance to step in and stop Sandusky and turned a blind eye.

When Mike McQueary told Paterno of the incident in which he witnessed Sandusky performing anal sex in a shower on a 10 year old boy, all he did was pass the information on to next person up the chain.

While this is legally all he had to do, we are talking about Joe Paterno, the face of Penn State football for over half a century. The man who has a library named after him and has enough clout and power to do virtually anything he wants in Happy Valley.

He says he was unaware of the details of the situation recalling that McQueary “vaguely’ referenced “fondling” or “touching” by Sandusky and the boy and not fully understanding that McQueary saw a rape being committed, but why didn’t he follow up? Why would he just pass the information up the line about something that happened in the Penn State football complex involving his defensive coordinator and heir to be?

How can a man who has been known as a great man of character and shaper of young people just never give a second thought to an allegation such as this? He didn’t even question the fact that a grown man and a small child were alone in a shower together, he just went on with his business preparing for the next game.

He was too worried about his own reputation, the reputation of the school, and the school’s football team. Instead of being the man of character he was viewed as and taking responsibility he simply ran away from it much like Mike McQueary ran away from the scene that night to call his father instead of stepping in to stop Sandusky or calling the police.

Apparently to Joe Paterno, Penn State and the Paterno name were more important the lives of children who are now forever scarred and will now be known as Victim 1 and Victim 2. According to the testimony at least four eyewitnesses saw Sandusky committing inappropriate acts with children and yet Paterno knew nothing about it.

He knew nothing when Sandusky, a promising coach, retired in the prime of his career, but was kept as a consultant. He knew nothing when Sandusky was told he couldn’t bring children with him to the campus.

In spite of all this information, Joe Paterno still had the chance to take the moral high ground in the eyes of the media and the country by admitting his enormous failure and resigning from his position as head coach. He chose to do neither, but instead announced his plan to retire, at the end of the season.

That was another slap in the face of the victims and their families and showed that he’s bigger than the university and everyone involved with it and will do things on his terms. Just as he did ten years ago he planned to just pay no attention to everything going on and prepare for the next game like it was any other week.

Paterno has said that if it’s all true than Sandusky fooled everyone, but that can’t be true because Paterno was told face to face in 2002 point blank by someone who witnessed it and he stood idly by too worried about what would happen to the program and his legacy.

While nothing can be taken away from his successful career as a coach and what he has done for the university, what was once a great legacy of the man who was the face of Nittany Lion football for so long will now be remembered as a stubborn, selfish old man who was more worried about his own life than saving the lives of children who never got a chance to live theirs.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The Penn State trustees fired university president Graham Spanier and football coach Joe Paterno due to the growing anger with how the school has dealt with the allegations of sex abuse against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.

The trustees met and decided to clean house Wednesday night after Paterno made the announcement earlier that he was planning to retire after 46 years at the end of the season.

The board couldn’t look the other way after the chorus of disapproval that was heard round the country following Sandusky’s arrest on molestation charges.

“The university is much larger than its athletic teams,” board vice chair John Surma said during a news conference.

“The Penn State board of trustees tonight decided it is in the best interest of the university to have a change in leadership to deal with the difficult issues that we are facing,” Surma said.

“The past several days have been absolutely terrible for the entire Penn State community. But the outrage that we feel is nothing compared to the physical and psychological suffering that allegedly took place.”

Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley has been named the interim coach and provost Rodney Erickson interim school president.

Paterno expressed disappointment with the decision, but accepted it and urged people to remain calm.

“A tragedy occurred, and we all have to have patience to let the legal process proceed,” Paterno said in a statement late Wednesday night. “I appreciate the outpouring of support but want to emphasize that everyone should remain calm and please respect the university, its property and all that we value.

“I have been incredibly blessed to spend my entire career working with people I love. I am grateful beyond words to all of the coaches, players and staff who have been a part of this program. And to all of our fans and supporters, my family and I will be forever in your debt.”

A source told ESPN’s Joe Schad that Paterno received and envelope at his home Wednesday night before the board made their announcement, and that it contained a paper with a number to call. Paterno called and a board member told him “you are relieved of your duties.”

Paterno has had a hard time grasping the scope of the allegations being brought against Sandusky.

People have been asking since the scandal began why Paterno as well as other top Penn State school officials didn’t notify the police in 2002 when Mike McQueary, who was a graduate assistant at the time and is now the wide receivers coach for the football team, told them that he saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in the school shower one night.

Paterno, who has wanted to speak to clarify some things, but had his weekly press conference cancelled by the school, will do so possibly as soon as Thursday. Paterno while saying he should have done more recalls McQuearly “vaguely” making references to “fondling” or “touching” by Sandusky and a young boy, but never understood that McQueary had witnessed a “rape.”

On Wednesday Paterno said in a statement that he was “absolutely devasted” by the case in which Sandusky was charged with molesting eight boys in a span of 15 years. Some of the alleged abuse was said to have taken place at the football complex.

Paterno’s firing ends one of the greatest coaching careers seen in sports. In his 46 year tenure as head coach of Penn State, Paterno has won 409 games, 2 national titles, and coached 5 teams to undefeated seasons. He’s also the fastest coach to reach 300 wins.

Penn State is currently ranked 12th in the BCS and the AP poll sitting at 8-1 losing to Alabama. They play 19th ranked Nebraska this weekend, at Ohio State, and at 18th ranked Wisconsin looking to secure a bowl bid.

In a statement, Paterno said: “I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief..I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.”

Penn State now looks to move forward and put this scandal behind them and the firing of the great “JoePa” is the first step in that direction.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Have you ever heard a song and flipped out wanting to know the artist and the song name? Hoping that you’ll remember it long enough so you can go home and download it as soon as you can ? Well, thats what it’s like for almost all people who have heard of Crystal Seth, and even myself.

Once a freshman at Pennsylvania State University Altoona campus I heard a cover to Airplanes by B.O.B at a frat party. I remember clearly everyone whispering in excitement who is this? And then followed that you heard “He’s goes here?!”

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Penn., Seth Goldsmith (Crystal Seth) has been attending Pennsylvania State University since May 2009, and is now a junior at the main campus. The 20 year old still juggles his career in music while focusing on school. With three mixtapes out and over 80,000 views currently on his YouTube channel, Crystal Seth is anything but a amateur.

His most recent mixtape “Self Portrait” already has more than 700 downloads, and two music videos to go along with it. His mixtapes and songs are popular for everyone and anyone in any mood, or any place. parties, loudly in your car, or while doing homework in your dorm room, Crystal Seth is a college student’s new favorite artist from Pennsylvania State University all the way to the University of Massachusetts.

How did you first start getting into rapping?

I started rapping when I was 15. I was friends with Mac Miller and my friend’s older brother is [an] established Pittsburgh artist: Beedie. I spent more time with them and it became all the more clear to me that hip-hop was something I was interested in pursuing. I didn’t always think that I would be as indulged in it as I am now I just did it for fun. People along the way that have listened to me are the ones that have pushed me to take this more seriously, like my manager Eric Caplan.

Has the college experienced helped your career?

College has definitely helped me network my music locations that I wouldn’t be able to access being a resident of Pittsburgh, though I’d say the majority of my fan base still falls within the city of steel.

How do you balance school and music?

To be honest it is really difficult to balance school and music. For instance I achieved a 3.4 GPA the 1st semester of my sophomore year, in the second semester I was preparing for my debut mixtape ”Self Portrait” and with driving to New Jersey every weekend to record you struggle to stay organized and I definitely wasn’t on a good sleep schedule. Needless to say my GPA declined a little bit but nothing too serious, I was able to stay on top of my work load for the most part.

Where do you get inspiration for your lyrics?

I get inspiration for my lyrics from my life, where the creativity comes in isn’t just talking straight forward, you have to make your situation seem foreign to people but you also want them to relate to it. I’m also very inspired by other artists; listening to certain people may give me an idea or enlighten me to want to go and tackle something new. Whether it be lyrics, flow or song structure. I’m a big fan of the Pittsburgh hip hop scene; I listen to a lot of burgh music. I would advise any artist or even a fan to stay up on your local music, ignoring what your city has to say is like rooting for the away team.

Where do you see your career a year from now?

It’s hard to say where my career will be in a year, the hip-hop industry is so difficult to break into. I have a little buzz rolling right now and I’m hoping that it will continue to grow. I can, however, say with confidence that I will keep growing as a writer and as an artist. I’ve learned so much by just doing it, putting in the time and effort in music is the only way to grow. I plan to continue doing so, and the difference in my music since last year is like night and day; I believe it’ll be like that a year from now as well.

How would you describe your career right now?

My career now is fantastic. I think regardless of where this will take me I’ll always remember this period of my life. I’m hungry you know? I love making music, I love grinding and achieving new milestones. The team that I have is the best thing ever, we’re all very close and work well together. In terms of accomplishments I’d say opening for Wiz Khalifa, getting shows period and collaborating with some artists that I’ve known of since I was like 14. I’ve worked with people who have done tracks with Max B, Mac Miller, and Juicy J. Not a lot of people can say that.

What’s your major? Are you going to continue with school as your career furthers?

I’m definitely going to stay in school, I’m a telecommunications major and my minor is music management. After I graduate I’m going to go to a school where I’ll be a credited music engineer after a six-month intensive in studio program, that’s sort of like my grad school.

Is there any advice you would give to artists that are trying to get their voice heard?

My advice to anyone trying to get music heard is don’t rush. Perfect your work, find your niche before you release something… be yourself or you will be laughed at. So focus on the music, with the Internet as its main supplier (mostly free) music gets consumed so quickly that if you put out a good project it won’t get overlooked, and if it does, you’ll know it, and that means you aren’t ready yet.

I still believe I’m not ready to blow up yet, I still have too much to learn. It’s a long process, it’s like sports, there’s a lot of good ball players in college, but if you aren’t a freak of nature and you can’t separate yourself from the next man, you wont make it.

If you havent heard of any of his music, you will soon. Crystal Seth’s talent is something worthwhile to look out for. You can download Seth’s music off of his facebook fan page ..www.facebook.com/CrystalSethAddicts or on youtube at www.youtube.com/crystalseth412.
