Kane says: ”If voters in the swing states ask themselves if they are better off than they were four years ago, the answer will be no. Comparing official data in 2008 to September 2012 (the latest data available), we see the unemployment rate has increased in every one of the nine most hotly contested swing states. Ohio saw its unemployment rate rise by half a percentage point from 6.5% in 2008 to 7.0% today, but Nevada suffered more than anywhere with its level rising from 7.0% in 2008 to 11.8% today.

“If President Obama loses the election next Tuesday, he has nothing but his economic policies to blame. In early 2009, Obama’s top economists promised that the unemployment would come down nationally to 5.5 percent by the end of his first term if Congress would enact the stimulus package. Despite Republican warnings, a hyper-partisan vote in Congress with Democratic majorities in both chambers did pass the stimulus. The result has been a jobless recovery, with unemployment rates two-and-a-half full points higher than promised, which doesn’t include the millions of discouraged Americans who have stopped looking for jobs and so are not officially counted as unemployed.”

Tim Kane often provides analysis on major television networks and radio outlets. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, San Diego. He is co-authoring a book (with Glenn Hubbard) entitled, Balance: Why Great Powers Lose It and How America Can Regain It, forthcoming from Simon & Schuster in early 2013.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

This is the question the Republican Party has been waiting to ask for four years as part of its strategy to undermine President Obama and his reelection. It began as a group of sore losers after the 2008 election, and ever since there has been every attempt to prevent President Obama’s success. Congress has behaved like a bunch of two-year-olds having an ongoing temper tantrum, screaming, “no, no, no” to everything the President has put forth to solve our nation’s problems. We must send a clear message to Congress and the Republican Party, that obstructive government is no government at all and tell them, emphatically, that we will not have it.

Has President Obama failed you? I think not. He inherited a huge national debt, two wars, massive Wall Street and corporate corruption, wide-scale unemployment, a severely depressed housing market amid mounting foreclosures, a dying American automobile industry, uncontrolled health care costs with the burden of care for the uninsured, plus an era of baby boomers reaching retirement age and straining the already stressed Social Security and Medicare systems.

No, he hasn’t done it all in four years. How could anyone? He said in his 2008 campaign “We can do it,” not “I can do it,” and it will take all of us to do our part. Have you done yours? Vote! Don’t let Big Money buy us, or their lies sway us, or allow them to get away with suppressing votes. Tell the Republicans we have had enough of their BS!

What President Obama has done is miraculous. Thanks to the Affordable Health Care Act, I, as an RN, can get back to caring for patients instead of charge slips and insurance companies.

Osama Bin Laden is dead. The war in Iraq has ended. Our soldiers are pulling out of Afghanistan. If your soldier came home alive, you no doubt know that you are better off.

Thanks to President Obama the auto industry is alive and well. The stimulus has kept capitalism alive. Unemployed workers got extended unemployment benefits. Programs were developed to prevent foreclosures and offer down payment assistance to make homes affordable to those in need and to stimulate the plummeting housing market.

President Obama is fighting to save Medicare and Social Security so our retirement money and care do not become resources for private investors to risk. Thousands of undocumented students will benefit from the Obama Administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. He is committed to protecting the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all of our people, not just the top 2 percent.

Voters I ask you: Who would Martin Luther King Jr., Caesar Chavez, Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt vote for? Would they let anyone take their vote away? Go to the polls.

Save yourself. Save your country. Save us all. Vote Barack Obama!

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

New York, U.S.A. — Activists are taking to the streets of cities across the country to spread artwork with the message to Get Big Money Out of Politics in a massive “Artdrop.” The event signals the growing momentum of the movement, with more than a dozen major national groups coming together to raise the message above the din of the billions of dollars flooding into the 2012 election.

The effort is part of an image overhaul for this wonky issue. The makeover comes thanks to Shepard Fairey, Jesse Dylan and artists across the country who recently chose “Monopolistic” as the winner of a national competition designed to invigorate the issue. The “Artdrop” will spread Monopolistic and other new images created for the competition online and on the ground.

“This is about empowering people to take back control of their democracy, not from one party or another, but from the money that has concentrated political power in the hands of the few,” said Shepard Fairey, the artist who created the iconic “Hope” poster.

“Artdrop” actions include online image distribution and sharing, distributing stickers, wheat pasting posters, mud stencils and giant light projection on buildings. Teams consist of up to 25 volunteers; there are multiple teams in major cities. Locations include New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Austin, Albuquerque, Denver, Chicago, Madison, Saint Louis, Richmond, Connecticut, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Iowa City, Kansas City, North Dakota, New Jersey—and others.

“Eight out of ten Americans want campaign finance limits that would address our current system of legalized bribery. Movements need more than strong polling numbers to make change—art, culture and image play a huge role,” says unPAC co-founder Matt Palevsky. “Americans have overwhelmingly agreed about the problem of big money in politics—the unprecedented amounts of money in this election could be the tipping point for real action.”

Landon Wix, whose winning artwork “Monopolistic” will be the major focus of the “Artdrop, ” says Fairey was a big inspiration for his work. The Nashville native cares deeply about the issue of money in politics.

“Growing up in a working class family, I’ve always understood and appreciated the power of the people. Politicians are those who represent us and should be decided by us,” says Wix.

In the first presidential election since Citizens United, political spending has passed $2 billion dollars—much of that is outside money. 78 percent of outside money can be directly attributed to the effects of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which allowed the formation of Super PACs and unlimited donations by corporations.

“People are frustrated by the way money has hijacked our democracy, and they often feel powerless to stop it,” says Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way. “Art is a vehicle for expressing this frustration while at the same time serving to bring people together, inspiring the kind of collective action that can create real political change.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Hinesville, U.S.A. — Disguised as a work of fiction, the novel The White House Games accurately predicted the choice of Paul Ryan as the GOP vice-presidential candidate.

What will be even more intriguing for readers is that the same book has already revealed who will win the coming U.S. Presidential elections.

In the novel, the vice-presidential candidate character is named Paul-Mark Rubyan, a minor alteration of the actual candidate’s name.

“I made the prediction using elements of computational statistics,” said author Say Dozeman. “Specifically, I used a math technique known as the Bayesian Information Criterion. But in the final analysis, it all boils down to the propensity of human beings to choose those with whom they have the deepest affinity. Thus, all the data pointed to the fact that Paul Ryan would be the best fit as Romney’s vice-presidential pick.

“If anyone suspects that I changed the character’s name after Ryan had been selected, he or she can check my novel’s date of registration with the Library of Congress. It was registered months before Ryan was selected, when even the closest associates of Romney had no idea who would be chosen, and at a time when I suspect that even Mr. Romney himself wasn’t entirely sure.”

Dozeman continued, “The VP and presidential predictions aren’t even the biggest bombshell predictions in my novel. The biggest prediction is something way more revolutionary; something on a much grander scale; something that will be like the second coming of the Founding Fathers. The biggest prediction is of something that will change the nature and character of American politics forever.”

The first in a planned series of political novels, The White House Games tells the story of a group of ex-Navy SEALs who take matters into their own hands in order to change the direction of American politics. Taking a leaf from the Arab Spring movement of 2011, the SEALs embark on a once-in-a-lifetime mission. Combining special operations tactics with social-media power, the SEALs launch a revolution against the powers-that-be in a high-stakes game to create America 2.0.

“If I had to describe the flavor of my book, I’d say it’s like a combination of The Hunger Games, “Survivor” and “Celebrity Apprentice,” all played out in a political arena,” said Dozeman.

The novel is available through Libboo.com, a digital platform for publishing and selling books. Dr. Chris Howard and Dr. Fernando Albertorio, two of the leaders of Libboo.com have developed and patented a “buzz-and-influence” computer algorithm to incubate and hatch the next generation of major league authors. Libboo.com is home to many mega-hit books including The First Secret of Edwin Hoff by A. B. Bourne, Chocrotes and the World Without Question by Steve Berkowitz, and Kun Lun by Liisa Pasila.

Since Libboo.com picked up The White House Games, the novel has been receiving a heady dose of buzz in the media.

Dozeman has also created a game called “The White House Ops.” Freely downloadable from the Apple App Store, the game is a cartoon adaptation of The White House Games, and it features a fast-paced race combined with a fight for survival as players steer major characters from the novel through a dangerous experience in the Amazon jungle, through Hell Week at the Navy SEALs BUD/S facility in Coronado, culminating in a fight-to-the-finish mixed martial arts tournament at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Unlike the novel which tells the outcome of the elections, the app allows players to enjoy alternate outcomes.

The White House Games is now on sale at Amazon.com

The book is also on sale now at Barnes and Noble online.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Chicago, U.S.A — There are truisms, and then there are “really truisms.” And one of them is the notion that a person doesn’t have the right to complain, if he or she didn’t bother to vote. Democrat, Republican, or fiercely Independent – it is a rally cry that transcends political affiliations. And yet while the number of complainers continues to increase, those who express their feelings in the voting booth continues to decrease.

It is with this in mind that Chicago-based “Attention Agency” Third Street conceived the idea of launching a national, multimedia campaign entitled Real Complainers Vote – a non-partisan effort designed to encourage young registered voters to embrace two American privileges: Voting and Complaining. To achieve this goal, they teamed up with frequent collaborator, Foundation Content as well as acclaimed street artist Ray Noland and comedian TJ Miller.

Real Complainers Vote takes a “seriously humorous” look at how our nation isn’t just comprised of complainers; it was founded and built by them. Through a unique viral video, social media and street-level campaign materials, Real Complainers Vote seeks to motivate young voters to express themselves where it matters most – in the voting booth — on November 6.

Third Street Chief Creative Officer David T. Jones sums up the essence of the campaign: “We know that we don’t need to convince Americans to complain. We only need to convince them that complaining has a cover charge. And that cover charge is voting.”

Foundation Content’s Kyle Shoup, who served as Creative Director for the Real Complainers Vote project, said, “We wanted to take the opportunity to make something fun, but unique. The result was a piece that incorporated stop-motion, handmade, 2D & 3D design and animation. Mixed media is really what this piece became, and it gives the message an unusual and compelling look.”

To view the animated, viral video within this campaign, please see: http://realcomplainersvote.com/ and follow the Griping on twitter at: @complainersvote

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Los Angelos, U.S.A. – In his critically important and timely new book, George Ball brings out of the shadows the Obama administration’s ongoing destruction of this country’s DNA—the Rule of Law. And in the clear, unvarnished way he gives advice to clients he shows us the terrible economic and personal freedom price we are paying for its destruction – whether you work on the factory floor or in the front office.

The Rule of Law ideal has over 2000 years of history behind it and stands for the proposition that a free and prosperous society should be based on “a government of laws and not men.” Instead of nurturing our Rule of Law tradition, in this compelling and authoritative new book, George Ball finds that “President Obama, who was indoctrinated by liberal and revolutionary professors at the Harvard Law School, is trying to bend America to his will and turn it into a government of a few at the top.

And in doing so America’s seemingly intractable problems – skyrocketing debt, high unemployment, tax class-warfare, and a pitiful housing market – have either been exacerbated or caused by Obama’s trampling on the Rule of Law.

So whether you are 18 or 81, a tea party supporter, independent, traditional Republican or Democrat, you deserve to know why a second term Obama presidency will be the Rule of Law tipping point and why its destruction will take your wallet down with it.”

Although we have much work to do, George Ball concludes in Audacious Destruction “there is still hope that free enterprise founded on the Rule of Law can thrive again as Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan showed us.”

George Ball grew up in Detroit and was educated at Western Michigan University and the Notre Dame Law School. He is a member of the California, Michigan and D.C. Bar Associations. In his career as counsel for General Motors and Suzuki, he took on the EPA, trial lawyers and Consumer Reportsmagazine to protect his clients’ rule of law rights. In 2008, he served on the McCain-Palin civil justice reform advisory committee.

Audacious Destruction by George Ball is now available on Amazon.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The big issues of the coming campaign are not in question. The economy, America’s growing debt, unemployment, and the role of entitlements (read: government) in Americans lives are crux of the 2012 battle for the White House. Highlighting the negative results in these areas is Mitt Romney, best hand for winning the election.

Nonetheless, foreign policy issues and threats are looming above America’s head in a big way, and will need to be addressed. The conventional wisdom is that Romney has little foreign policy and relations experience. President Obama’s own lack of experience in this area notwithstanding, his campaign zeroed in on this one reason that Romney is not the right man for job.

Governor and Romney advisor Tim Pawlenty addressed this viewpoint and other foreign policy concerns today in a symposium held by the Foreign Policy Initiative. Moderated by board member and Fox news analyst Bill Kristal, the event gave Pawlenty a forum to address how a Romney Presidency would look like in the area of foreign relations. The big take away from the event was Pawlenty’s view that Romney is on the right track.

“Romney has the right foundational and directional philosophy to make the correct decisions.” Pawlenty followed this up by reminding everyone in attendance that Reagan did not have extensive foreign policy experience. His worldview is what allowed him to be an effective foreign policy President.

Channeling Reagan is something that most, if not all, republicans attempt to do. It does not matter whether it is taxes, the economy, or dealing with America’s challenges abroad. Still, there is a large grain of truth to his statement. Governors of either party seldom have extensive foreign policy and relations experience. Their duties at times lightly touch the area, but their primary function is running their states. The lack of experience has to be made up with study and experienced, sound advisors.

Underlying it all, however, is the philosophy of the person in charge. The President can have a mindset like Carter or Winston Churchill. How he views Americas role and his mindset sets the agenda for who he has as advisers, what diplomacy targets he set, and what he will do and not do with America’s armed forces.

Pawlenty was critical of the philosophy President Obama has taken. “President Obama has decided to lead from behind. To have America take a less active role as leader in the world. That has not worked out well.” Examples given of this view were the “reset with Russia,” as the President calls it, and the missed opportunity in the Iranian uprising.

The financial challenges the country faces are grave, but the potential threats of Iran, Russia, and China are like a Damocles sword above the neck of Uncle Sam. Romney cannot afford to let the view of the President set America’s view of him in this area. The knowledge and philosophy that Pawlenty speaks of must be in full view to the American public. Foreign policy may not be issue one this election cycle, but it still cannot be allowed to be ignored.

“Strategists say that independents decide elections,” said Darrell Birkey, the ARTL research director overseeing the new RepublicansAgainstRomney.com website. “So the only way for pro-lifers to get candidates who won’t kill unborn children is to become independent enough to oppose liberal, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual politicians like Mitt Romney.”

Agreeing with ARTL is the longtime vice president of the nation’s first “right to life” group, Colorado Right To Life. “The Republicans Against Romney site documents that the excuses the campaign makes for Mitt’s anti-child, anti-free-market, anti-family actions are nothing but lies,” said Leslie Hanks. “Sadly, conservative talk show hosts lap it up and repeat the lies. This website even offers a$100 reward for corrections to errors of fact.”

According to the site, Romneycare is fundamentally a liberal, socialist program with its individual mandate that saps the federal treasury. Romney’s top consultants aided the development of Obamacare and put Planned Parenthood on the “health” committee that, from day one, offered $50 tax-subsidized abortion on demand. And still today Romney plans to nominate justices “like John Roberts,” who upheld Obamacare.

RepublicansAgainstRomney.com documents that Mitt Romney claimed to be pro-choice in 1994, pro-life in 2001, pro-choice in 2002, pro-life in 2004, pro-choice in 2005, pro-life in 2006 and then funded abortion in 2006. In 2012, he’s back to supporting abortion for “health reasons,” the loophole opened by the Supreme Court’s Doe v. Bolton opinion that allows all abortions, as in Colorado for example, throughout all nine months.

“And ironically,” adds Birkey, “the ’legitimate’ rape issue is Romney policy, not a Todd Akin policy. The congressman advocates protecting every child, but it’s Romney’s rape exception that requires determining whether or not there was a rape.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

In the streets of downtown Tampa, dual preparations continue as the city braces for tropical Storm Issac and the Republican National Convention. Convention officials delayed the start of the events from Monday afternoon to Tuesday as a safety precaution. Issac is not projected to hit landfall in Tampa, but that will not stop massive amounts of rain and strong winds from shutting everything down for a day.

There is one thing, however, that will continue to work inside the Forum center and serves as a loud remainder of what this election is about. That item is a large clock keeping track of the amount of financial debt, added each second. Tampa may be worried about the impending storm of Issac, but the entire country is facing a debt storm that is bearing down on everyone like a category 5 hurricane.

The optic of the clock is a perfect anchor for one of the foundational fights that will be played out this presidential election. President Obama will fight to make this election about Romney’s taxes, women’s rights, and Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan. The President’s surrogates and spokespeople will attempt to distract voters away from the economy.

Thus far, they have done an excellent job of doing so. But, the fiscal cliff that the spending of the Obama administration has enacted is a problem that Romney must keep front and center in the campaign. Nothing does that better than the backdrop of a debt calculator displaying the massive bill the country is racking up.

This is a message that the republicans must take to heart as well. The last two weeks have seen the Romney camp get bogged down over Medicare and the comments of Senate candidate Todd Akin regarding rape and abortion. The economy and the debt are problems one and two. They cannot afford to get caught in the Obama trap of defending themselves and talking about things that have nothing to do with those issues.

Many in the media will play along with President Obama and will be all too willing to cover other issues. Optics is one way around this obstacle. Do not just talk, show. Judging by the large and ominous clock clicking up every second of the convention speakers’ speeches, the Romney campaign may be on their way to making this election about what it needs to be about.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Miami, U.S.A. — By rethinking the conventional wisdom about core voting issues, Hispanic Catholics can transform American politics.

That is the message that Supreme Knight Carl Anderson of the Knights of Columbus will deliver to more than 100 Hispanic business and civic leaders meeting in Miami for the annual conference of the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders (CALL).

The speech is scheduled Friday, August 24, at 7:00 PM at the Family Center of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church 7377 SW 64th Street, Miami.

Anderson will make the case that voters must consider a candidates position on issues that affect core values if we want to build a country where the Catholic values of Hispanic immigrants are respected. Anderson will note that voting for those who say they support immigration reform is not enough, if those same politicians also advocate policies at odds with the core Catholic beliefs shared by the vast majority of Hispanic immigrants.

His speech notes that “we should work to ensure that future generations of immigrants find a country that supports their values and not one that asks them to surrender their religious values at the border as the price of their admission.”

It adds that “being forced to surrender values at the border is not multiculturalism, it is the opposite of multiculturalism.”

Anderson will also point out that “we all want and deserve a real solution” on immigration. However, despite many promises from individuals on both sides of the political aisle, no comprehensive immigration solution has been forthcoming and conditions in the United States are now such that as many or more Mexican immigrants are returning to Mexico as are coming in the United States according to the Pew Foundation.

The speech comes on the heels of the enormous Guadalupe Celebration in Los Angeles earlier this month sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles – the largest Catholic event in that city since the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1987.

A strong advocate for Catholics voting in a way consistent with their conscience, Anderson will tell the assembled Latino Leaders that Hispanic voters should consider many issues in voting, and ought to draw a line they will not cross in voting if a politician supports policies at odds with core Catholic beliefs.

Such policies include support for abortion or the limitation of First Amendment freedom of religion – which have come under increasing assault from federal policies including the unpopular HHS Mandate that forces religious employers to pay for abortion inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception. The mandate and other federal actions have also sought to redefine the very nature of religion, something that has drawn condemnation from many religious leaders of many faiths.

Earlier this month, Pope Benedict XVI conveyed his support for the Knights of Columbus work in support of religious liberty. The letter addressed to Carl Anderson from the Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, stated “His Holiness is confident that the (Knights of Columbus) Supreme Convention will carry on this distinguished legacy by providing sound inspiration, guidance and direction to a new generation of faithful and dedicated Catholic laymen. As he stated to the Bishops of the United States earlier this year, the demands of the new evangelization and the defense of the Church’s freedom in our day call for ‘an engaged, articulate and well-formed Catholic laity endowed with a strong critical sense vis-à-vis the dominant culture and with the courage to counter a reductive secularism which would delegitimize the Church’s participation in public debate about issues which are determining the future of American society’ (Ad LiminaAddress, 19 January 2012).”

Anderson leads an organization of 1.8 million members founded by immigrants and the sons of immigrants in 1882 and dedicated to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Knights of Columbus has long been a “pan-American” organization, having established councils in Mexico in 1905 and in Cuba in 1909 and in Canada in 1897.

Anderson is coauthor of the New York Times bestselling book Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Civilization of Love, and serves as CEO of the Knights of Columbus.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

East Lansing, U.S.A. — Lee Abramson, 41, has announced that he is an independent candidate for the 2012 Presidential election.

Political expertise: His father, Paul Abramson, is a member of the American Political Science Association Hall of Fame, and is widely known as an expert in presidential politics.

Entrepreneurial experience: He is the first person to sell pork rinds on the Internet, and he sold 1000 CD’s out of the back of a truck in the two years he was a bass player in a rock band.

Leadership experience: In college, he ran an industrial kitchen, planning meals and stocking food supplies. Later, he became the leader of the Web applications support team at Lotus Development Corporation.

Other credentials: Abramson is arguably the greatest musician since King David, and his two best friends Eric and Elliott (who have the same Hebrew name), and all of his other friends and family say that he brings clarity to contentious issues with the wisdom of Solomon.

Abramson’s first act as President will be to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. His second act will be the immediate removal of all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He will use those resources to seal the border with Mexico, but only to combat drug trafficking. Abramson will reform immigration policies on the advice of his head of DHS. Abramson supports the use of MDMA in a controlled setting for treating veterans with PTSD.

Defense policy: Nuclear submarines will be the first expenditure to be cut. All employees and military personnel involved in running military nuclear reactors will be shifted into new domestic nuclear power plants. Strategic bombers and fighter planes will comprise the next program to be scaled back.

All spending cuts from those programs, specifically research on military aerospace engineering, will be redirected towards establishing more advanced domestic light rail systems and space tourism. The third program to be cut will be tanks and armored personnel carriers because conflicts we are involved in specifically in Afghanistan require foot patrols to engage with civilians, making tanks and armored personnel carriers irrelevant to the conflict there.

Tax policy: Abramson feels that we need to implement a more progressive tax policy. People with higher incomes will pay a higher percentage of their income tax than the middle class.

Healthcare policy: Abramson favors the creation of a new healthcare program called “Americare.” Americare will be a cradle-to-grave medical coverage program that will pay for the needs of all United States citizens and allow healthcare providers to be compensated according to their skill set. Americare will replace Medicare, Medicaid and the need for private insurance or supplemental insurance. Abramson feels that private insurance companies are criminal organizations because they profit by delaying and denying care, which could in some instances cause unnecessary deaths and suffering to people who rely on private insurance.

Abramson feels that all private insurance companies should be liquidated and all employees should be assigned to positions within the Americare apparatus. Furthermore, Abramson proposes a retroactive inception of the Americare policy that will bring about a “Jubilee year” where any low-income person with medical debt will have that debt forgiven. This policy will be paid for by implementing the tax and defense policies. Abramson will also increase federal spending on medical research, particularly ALS research.

Drug policy: Marijuana will be legalized and taxed, and will be sold only at authorized dispensaries, with a strictly enforced age limit of 18 years for use.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

New York, U.S.A. — MyGoodDeed, the prominent nonprofit which successfully advocated for the permanent establishment of the anniversary of 9/11 as a federally recognized day of charitable service and remembrance, (http://www.911day.org) has requested that the presidential campaigns of President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney agree to suspend all campaign advertising on September 11 this year.

In letters sent to both candidates on August 10, MyGoodDeed said, “We are making this request so that the families of those lost, and the nation as a whole, can dedicate 9/11 to remembering in prayer and honoring through service, the 9/11 victims, rescue and recovery workers, and the many individuals who rose to assist and defend our nation in response to the attacks.”

MyGoodDeed requested a similar moratorium on campaign advertising in 2008. Then Senators Barack Obama and John McCain each voluntarily complied with that request, and both later appeared together in a show of national unity on the evening of 9/11, attending a forum organized by ServiceNation addressing the importance of community and national service.

“We believe that the focus on 9/11 should be on honoring those lost and heroic, setting aside our political differences and coming together as Americans,” said Jay S. Winuk, co-founder of MyGoodDeed, whose brother, volunteer firefighter/EMT Glenn J. Winuk, died in the line of duty in the 9/11 attacks. “We hope and trust that our leaders will suspend their campaign activity briefly and join with the entire nation in paying tribute through expressions of unity, remembrance and service.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Usually vice presidents do things that presidents can’t do by themselves. They try to complement the president in the areas in which he is weaker. That is what Paul Ryan and Joe Biden are doing: Biden is helping Obama gain support of white-working class voters and Ryan is helping Romney with the most conservative wing of the Republican Party.

Although in age and in most political views Ryan and Biden are totally different, they share some things in common. Both are Catholics and both suffered a terrible loss. Ryan lost his father when he was young, and Biden lost his daughter and wife in a car accident. Both of them have used their personal stories in political rallies.

Daniel Burke in a Washington Post article said that although both Ryan and Biden are Catholics neither of them is a serious defender of their church’s main political causes. Burke states that “Biden agrees with the church on social justice issues like poverty, but runs afoul on gay marriage and abortion rights. Ryan, meanwhile, agrees with Catholic doctrine on abortion and gay marriage, but clashes with church leaders on social justice issues.”

This proves how both of them are politically opposite in key issues. The real question is if the Catholic vote would be decisive in this election. And, if it is, who would the Catholic voters support?

Biden considers himself to be Obama’s big brother: he has the mission to grant the president the experience he has in aspects like foreign issues from his long political career and credibility in Washington. Ryan, on the other hand, has to give Romney credibility in a key aspect like the federal budget. Ryan needs to show that a Republican government in the White House would reduce the deficit, something the Republicans are claiming Obama has increased by a trillion dollars every year.

But Biden has received recent criticism, and the Republicans are trying to take advantage of it to project a bad image of him. During a political rally in Virginia, in which many in the crowd were African-Americans, the vice president said that Romney’s plans for Wall Street would put them “back in chains.” For this declaration, Biden has received multiple accusations of using racial undertones for political purposes.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Obama defended Biden, saying that he only intended to say that if the Republicans repel the Wall Street reforms his government has made, consumers won’t be protected.

Ryan referred to Biden’s declaration during an interview with Fox News Radio, saying: “You know, these are the kinds of things you say when you’re desperate in a campaign.” He added, “I think you’re going to hear more of these things as we go on because they have a terrible record and can’t run on it so they’re going to kind of sink this campaign to these low levels to distract people.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Obama’s campaign released a new ad called “Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan plan to end Medicare as we know it,” which explains how the Republican ticket intends to transform Medicare into a voucher system and how Paul Ryan, as Mitt Romney’s running mate, will affect Romney’s success in key battleground states like Florida.

The Democrat’s strategy has focused on inspiring fear among Medicare beneficiaries. It has tried to convince them that if the Republican ticket gets into the White House they would end Medicare in its current form. They have also tried to make Paul Ryan look radical as an architect of a budget plan that would only affect the most vulnerable Americans.

The new Obama ad even had world-famous economist Paul Krugman state that if Medicare is replaced by a voucher system, millions of elderly people would not have the money to afford insurance.

The ad also suggests that Ryan’s plan to cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security could hurt Romney in a state with a large retired population like Florida. The video also asserts that Romney lied when he declared that President Obama was the one who was really destroying Medicare to fund Obamacare by introducing Romney saying that Obama “has taken $716 billion out of the Medicare trust fund to pay for Obamacare.” The ad shows a news anchorman saying that benefits to seniors have really increased during Obama’s legislation as proof that Romney’s statement is false.

Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, wrote a Townhall.com opinion article defending Romney and Ryan’s plan to save Medicare. Priebus wrote that, although Obama does not have a plan to save Medicare, he has taken billions of dollars from it to support Obamacare.

Priebus further explains that Medicare is predicted to go bankrupt in 2024 and the Democrats do not have a plan to save it, adding that they are using an old strategy to instill fear into the minds of senior citizens by lying about the Republican plans, hoping that the truth would not be known before the election.

But one thing that is clear about Ryan is that he has energized the Republican Party’s most conservative wing: 24 hours after his designation the Romney campaign had already received $3.5 million in online donations. And if Ryan could hurt Romney in some states, he would definitely help him in others. As a Tea Party member, Ryan would energize and mobilize Tea Party supporters in other battleground states.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Seattle, U.S.A. — As the implementation date for the deferred action for childhood arrivals, announced by President Obama on June 15, 2012, goes into effect, Avvo, the web’s largest expert-only legal and health Q&A forum and directory released a set of legal guides that provide greater clarity on the program, application process, and eligibility and requirements. The new guides, available on the immigration topic page, and authored by immigration attorneys who answer consumer legal questions on Avvo.com, include:

What is the DREAM Act and Deferred Action?

Deferred Action Eligibility & Requirements

Everything You Need to Know to Apply for Deferred Action

FAQ: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Since the policy was announced two months ago, Avvo has received hundreds of questions related to the DREAM Act regarding the application process, eligibility, and how the application process will impact family members who are not eligible for the deferment. Further, Avvo has seen an 86 percent increase in the number of immigration-related questions in the first half of 2012 over the same period last year. Texas leads the country with the greatest number of immigration related questions on Avvo.com, followed by California and New York, taking into account population density.

Chicago resident Nevena Georgieva emigrated to the U.S. from Bulgaria nine years ago. She arrived on a green card, and was granted American citizenship five years later. Georgieva is among the millions of people who have received answers to immigration-related questions on Avvo. “Avvo is an indispensable resource,” said Georgieva.

“I have turned to Avvo for help with my immigration questions, and I’ve used it to get advice regarding my business and for other legal concerns. Not only do I get answers within a couple of hours of asking a question, but I have also benefitted from the thousands of other legal answers and useful resources on the site.”

According to the Pew Hispanic Center up to 1.4 million children and young adults who are in the United States illegally could benefit from the new deportation policy. The 1.4 million estimate includes 700,000 unauthorized immigrants who are ages 18 to 30 but arrived in the U.S as children and are currently enrolled in school or have graduated from high school; and an additional 700,000 who are under the age of 18 and are enrolled in school.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Mitt Romney picked Paul Ryan as the Republican’s Vice Presidential candidate this Saturday. So who exactly is Paul Ryan, and what does this selection tell us about how the Romney campaign and the fight for the Presidency is shaping up to be?

Paul Ryan is the US State Representative for the state of Wisconsin, and also chair of the House Budget Committee. Over the past couple of years his plans for the US budget has been the subject of much conversation and controversy; he mostly talks up the need to cut debt and spending, and the way he seems to want to go about that is through slashing funding for welfare programs, among others. He’s very conservative politically and quite a favorite among the GOP.

Ryan seems to be widely considered very intelligent and competent. Many see him as a rising star, someone young and ambitious, and many have written about how he, in many ways, somewhat overshadows the actual presidential candidate, Romney. His plans are now what’s brought up whenever the policy of the republican presidential candidacy is discussed and he seems to be considerably more charismatic than Romney, who doesn’t seem particularly ideological or at least does not give off the impression of being genuinely passionate about ideology, and is seen as rather bland.

As someone who has made his name almost entirely on policy issues–namely his Ryan plan for the budget–there is widespread expectation that the conversations in this election cycle are finally going to go back to some talk of actual policy instead of mostly mudslinging and generally trying to point out what terrible people the other side are. Though that’s perhaps almost unrealistically optimistic.

Much like Romney and the current Republican Party, he’s anti-abortion and against gay adoption and gay marriage and has a fairly poor record for supporting women’s rights. He also supports further tax cuts for the rich and for businesses, and since taxes on the wealthy won’t be going towards cutting the debt in his plan, he intends on fighting the deficit by cutting government spending in welfare programs and education spending, which means the recipients of these welfare programs are going to be considerably worse off. Namely, the poor and seniors, whose medical care is paid for by the rather intuitively named Medicare.

These exact same stances are very similar to everything that the current Republican party seems to push for and that Romney has presented, so this was a VP pick that was reinforcing those ideas instead of trying to provide something different or appeal to a different angle or set of voters.

So what does this tell us about Romney’s campaign? Well, Romney could really have gone two different angles with his campaign now that he’s almost certainly going to be the Republican candidate for President to run against Obama. He could’ve tried to capture moderate voters who aren’t really very much on one side or the other, who almost undoubtedly, like everyone else in America, are unhappy with the economy as it is right now.

By trying to move a bit more from the right to the center and hoping that with the votes from conservatives and enough of a share from moderates, he could try to win the election. Along those lines, he could’ve even tried to reach out to groups rather alienated by Republican policies like women or Latinos.

However, Romney has never really been popular with conservatives who are the base of the Republican Party; when the primary elections to choose a party candidate to run for President were going on people, seemed to want any other choice, but all of the other options turned out to be too problematic for various reasons.

Earlier in his political career, when he was Governor of his home state of Massachusetts, Romney’s policies had been very different and not very right-wing, but now as he fights for the presidential nomination, he’s had to backtrack on a lot of it, and this gives the impression to a lot of conservatives that he hasn’t been conservative enough in the past. As a result, he’s not too popular among the conservative base.

So by choosing Paul Ryan as his VP pick, he has thoroughly burnished his credentials as a right-wing guy who’d bring about right-wing policy if elected President. This means Romney has decided that the support of an energized and enthusiastic conservative base could be more useful than attempting to win over moderates and risk losing support from the conservatives. Also, he’s doubled down on policies that would be useful to businesses and the rich–less regulation, lower taxes on them–so companies and the wealthy looking out for their own interests are more likely to back him.

Many average Americans are pretty apathetic about politics, an apathy that has only been increasing recently with widespread mistrust of all government. However, conservatives have been pretty fired up lately. He’s made the gamble that an enthusiastic base of people who are going to vote and fund a campaign, as well as guarantee lots of campaign funding from businesses and the rich to go towards ads and campaigning, is going to be more useful than hoping to get the more apathetic moderates to vote for him.

Voting isn’t compulsory in the US, so only 50-60% of eligible voters actually vote, and of course more dedicated groups are more likely to vote. Of course, now the Obama campaign will target those same moderates (already begun–the Obama campaign has been focusing a lot on how they would be so much better for the middle class and for women’s rights) because if enough of them care enough to vote, Obama has a pretty great chance of winning, but that’s the gamble Romney’s made now.

Will Obama be able to inspire those moderates enough to actually vote and convince them that voting for him would be good for them, or will lots of ads and campaigning funded by the wealthy and an enthusiastic base of conservatives who will definitely be going to vote when November rolls around, be enough for Romney to win? We’ll have to see how it plays out over the next three months.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Since his designation as Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan has been under a lot of criticism from the Democrats, but his response has not taken long to be heard. In Iowa he criticized the way President Obama has handled the economy for the past four years.

This August 13 during Iowa’s rally, Paul Ryan was dressed for the occasion; he wore jeans, cowboy boots and a red and white checkered shirt. Since his nomination this was the first time Ryan campaigned alone, he was facing thousands of people, but he did well.

Recently in a political rally in Iowa President Obama made hard accusations against Ryan, saying that he blocked a farm bill that would benefit state farmers. Ryan also had something to say to Obama during another rally in the key-state battleground of Iowa, accusing the president of “spending our children into a diminished future.”

Referring to Obama’s three-day visit to Iowa, Ryan stated: “As you see the president come through in his bus tour, you might ask him the same question that I’m getting asked from people all around America. And that is, ‘Where are the jobs, Mr. President?’” The fact that during his speech Ryan made a direct reference to Obama by suggesting the crowd that if they see the president, they should ask him about where the jobs are, is not a coincidence. President Obama did something similar during his Iowa rally. He told the crowd that if they saw Paul Ryan to tell him how important the farm bill was for Iowa’s rural communities.

Although Ryan made an outstanding appearance in Iowa, the rally was not easy. There were some protesters who interrupted him several times. They were claiming that Ryan was on war with the middle class, and tensions arose to the maximum point when a woman climbed into Ryan’s stage, but she was immediately taken by security forces. Ryan, to try to cool things down, said that “she must not be from Iowa.”

Iowa is one of the swing states. Obama won it in the 2008 election, but in 2004 Bush won this state, so the Republicans are making a huge effort to regain it. Ryan did not talk about the reform he intends to make in Medicare. In recent days one of the most popular accusations made against Ryan is that he intends to transform Medicare into a voucher system, but in Iowa he did not talk about this controversial issue.

Paul Ryan also intended to avoid Obama’s accusations that he opposed a farm bill that would benefit the rural sector. He said that he “would get into those policy things later,” and stated: “Right now, I just want to enjoy the fair.” But Romney spokesman, Ryan Williams, defended Ryan and Romney on this issue, he stated: “The truth is no one will work harder to defend farmers and ranchers than the Romney-Ryan ticket.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Paul Ryan, Romney’s running mate, is the Republican leader on fiscal and budget issues; he is a seen as a “fiscal hawk.” Ryan is also very popular among the Republican’s most conservative voters.

Ryan is the designer of a new economic plan that intends to drastically decrease government spending, but Romney has taken his distance from Ryan’s plan, which some consider to contain draconian measures. Romney has announced that he respects Ryan’s plan but he has his own plan to reduce the deficit.

Sen. Rick Santorum, one of the nation’s conservative leaders, stated: “Congressman Paul Ryan is an outstanding choice as our country’s next vice president, and today’s announcement demonstrates Governor Romney’s commitment to returning fiscal sanity back to Washington.”

Romney referred to Ryan as a “faithful catholic” who is a supporter of the dignity of every human life. Ryan opposes abortion in all situations. He is definitely supported by the Republican’s most conservative base and would definitely energize them, as they have been very discrete in their support for Romney, and they are one of the Republican’s most important supporters. It is crucial for Romney to have them devoted to his cause in order to win this election.

The Obama campaign has already started to criticize the Republican candidates, claiming they want to take the country back to policies that have already been proven wrong.

The most important thing about Ryan is that he would reinforce Romney’s economic message. He is seen as an economic expert, the contrary of President Obama. That’s why is very important for the Democrats to show that his economic postures are radical and would only benefit the rich.

Obama’s campaign has released an article criticizing the “comeback team,” formed by Ryan and Romney. They explain that both of them support tax cuts for millionaires, that this will lead to tax rises for the middle class, and that the Republican candidates’ plan intends to cut investments in vital areas like education.

The Democrats also explained that Ryan’s budget plan intends to make Bush’s tax cuts for the millionaire permanent, and that he also intends to end Medicare as it is right now. They explain that Ryan’s plan would transform “Medicare into a voucher system which would increase seniors’ health costs by $6,350 a year.” Also, they claim he wants to privatize social security.

The other accusations the Democrats are making against Ryan is that he is a severely conservative man, who would take the country centuries back in reference to women’s health and equal rights. Obama’s campaign explains that Ryan co-sponsored a bill that intends to end in-vitro fertilization and other forms of birth control, and that he is also a supporter of letting states prosecute women and doctors involved in an abortion. They also accuse Ryan of opposing gay marriage.

These are some of the main accusations the Democrats have made against Romney’s running mate; they are trying to make him seem as an enemy of the middle class and women. His position on Medicare could cost the Republicans some votes from the elder people, but he would definitely reinforce Romney’s economic message and will gain conservative support for his position on some of the controversial topics.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The most popular buzz in the political world this weekend has to be the revealing of Governor Mitt Romney’s Vice President pick, Paul Ryan. Ryan, Wisconsin’s representative, has been one of the many who were being vetted for Romney’s VP in the past few months. People and the media have been wondering who Romney would pick, whether it would be Paul Ryan, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, Marco Rubio of Florida, or Rob Portman of Ohio. In the end, on August 11, Romney tweeted:

“I am proud to announce @PaulRyanVP as my VP. Stand with us today. http://mi.tt/Romney-Ryan #RomneyRyan2012″

Ryan, also know as the chair of the House Budget Committee, is known for his fiscal policy. His personal website says that “He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy, Social Security, health care and trade laws.” With a strong background in economics and budget plans, he is a smart addition for the Romney team.

However, the media has much to say about Romney’s decision. Obviously, not everybody is going to love Paul Ryan. Some are saying Ryan is good for the Democrats, that he is “bad for women,” and hates medicare. Many Americans are worried about Ryan’s Medicare plan. Ryan’s budget plan, which is somewhat controversial, intends to to make Medicare something called “premium support,” meaning that the government will offer seniors a set amount of money to spend in a health insurance exchange. This would allow seniors to choose their own private insurance, or use the government-run insurance. Once the senior has a plan, they would have to pay more out of pocket.

Current Vice President, Joe Biden, recently said that “Ryan’s plan to privatize Social Security was irresponsible.” Along with this, CBS news said that, “Ryan, a seven-term congressman and chairman of the House Budget Committee, wants to slice away at Medicare, food stamps and virtually all domestic programs, with military a notable exception.”

Besides fiscal policy, budget plans, and Medicare ideas, the media has also been showing another side of Ryan. Ryan is young, smart, and apparently a fitness buff. The ever so popular internet meme of Ryan has gone viral. Based off of the Ryan Gosling meme, that often starts off with “Hey Girl..” to melt women’s hearts, the Paul Ryan meme is very similar, having some that say “Hey girl, unlike the debt, our love will never hit a ceiling.” The memes have gone viral, and are the topics of many Ryan headlines.

Also headlining for Ryan, is his physique. Politico recently published an article called, “Forget the budget, Paul Ryan is hot.” It details how Ryan is included in the Hill’s top 50 Most Beautiful List and one of the top suggestions for google when one types in Paul Ryan, is “Paul Ryan shirtless.”

Romney’s decision has caused a spark in the political world. Paul Ryan’s budget plan, fiscal policies, internet memes, and pictures of him shirtless will definitely keep him in the media for a while. The question is if his budget plan and six pack will help Romney win the election in November.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Priorities USA Action has been one of the Obama campaign’s most important supporters. Priorities USA is an independent expenditure Political Action Committee (PAC) that believes “the stakes for protecting our country’s core values have never been higher as Republicans pursue an agenda that rewards only the wealthiest few at the expense of middle class families.”

The PAC says it advocates for candidates who support economic policies that would create and generate investment in the country, and for candidates who promote fairness and health care access to everyone. Priorities USA Action clearly stated their support for Barack Obama: “We are committed to the reelection of President Obama and setting the record straight when there are misleading attacks against him and other progressive leaders.”

Their sympathy for Obama has traduced a lot of support; they have released several videos criticizing Mitt Romney. The hardest one is called ‘Understands.’ It tells the story of a former worker, Jose Soptic, of a steel plant controlled by Bain Capital in Kansas. Soptic explains how when the plant was closed he lost his health insurance. Then, his wife got sick with cancer and couldn’t be treated on time without insurance, so she died.

Although Soptic is a lifelong Democrat and a union member, Obama’s campaign has tried to distance itself from his story. Spokesman Jen Psaki stated “We don’t have any knowledge of the story of the family.” But the Obama campaign had already used him to tell his story in a conference call with reporters in May.

Another Priorities USA Action ad called ‘Briefcase’ criticizes Romney’s business record, saying that he bought companies and drowned them in debt. Many of them went bankrupt, which consequently led to thousands of jobs lost. The ad claims that for every company that went into bankruptcy, Romney made millionaire profits. The ad ends stating: “If Romney wins the middle class loses.”

Priorities USA Action is also against the “Romney Rule,” which would make millionaires pay a lower tax rate than the middle class. For them, it would be a tax plan that would burden the middle class.

Priorities USA Action has been, and will continue being, one of Obama’s major supporters. According to Open Secrets, Center for Responsible Politics, during 2012 PAC has raised nearly $21 million and has spent almost $18 million supporting Obama.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Mitt Romney’s campaign, in the beginning, was focused on criticizing President Obama for the way he handled the economy during his entire presidency, which Republicans consider to be a complete disaster. However, in recent weeks Romney’s campaign has changed, and has started to criticize Obama in various other aspects. Freedom of religion and the welfare reform are some of the new topics that have appeared in Romney’s campaign.

Many members of the Republican Party have been complaining that economic criticism won’t be enough to take Obama out of the White House. These Republicans think Romney should press Obama in more controversial areas, and that’s what Romney’s latest ads are doing.

The ad called ‘Be not afraid’ accuses President Obama of declaring “war on religion, forcing religious institutions to go against their faith.” An example is that catholic sponsored entities like schools have to cover contraceptive methods in their employees’ insurances. The ad says that Mitt Romney is the one who truly “shares your values.” This is an ad dedicated to some of the Republican Party loyalists. The ad’s final statement is very suggestive: “When religious freedom is threatened, who do you want to stand with?”

Republican consultant Keith Appell stated “I understand the economy is the top issue, but you don’t want to be so maniacally focused that you ignore everything else.”

He added that “”there’s always a risk of becoming too focused — a horse with blinders — and not seeing some of the other things around you. Campaigns need focus. But there’s something to be said for peripheral vision when you’re trying to hold a coalition together.”

Romney needs to raise the social conservatives’ enthusiasm and religious voters that preferred a figure like Rick Santorum and have been skeptical with Romney. But, in the end they will vote for him, because they are not willing to vote for Obama. Ads like the religious freedom one are the type of things that will definitely excite the Republican’s conservative base, which has been very quiet during the campaign so far.

Also, a recent Mitt Romney ad called ‘Right choice’ recently accused Obama of trying to gut Clinton’s welfare reform, which required recipients to work to receive welfare. The ad claims that Obama is intending to drop the work requirements. The Obama campaign has defended the accusations with another ad called ‘Blatant.’ ‘Blatant‘ quotes the New York Times and the Washington Post, saying that Romney’s ad accusations are false.

The ad continues saying that what Obama is in fact doing is “getting states to move 20% more people from welfare to work” requirements. The Obama ad quotes Bill Clinton, saying Romney’s ad is “just not true.” Obama’s ad is being shown in seven key-state battlegrounds.

Obama’s campaign counterattack against Romney hasn’t taken long to be seen. An ad called ‘Son of boss,’ which criticizes Romney’s tax record, has been released. The ad narrator questions how much Mitt Romney has really paid in taxes, whether that be 10%, 5% or 0%. The answer of the narrator is: “We don’t know.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Obama for America Campaign Manager, Jim Messina, has released a statement criticizing Paul Ryan selection as Romney’s running mate:

“In naming Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has chosen a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment to the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy.

The architect of the radical Republican House budget, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, and deep cuts in education from Head Start to college aid. His plan also would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors.

As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes.”

Messina wants to convince the voters that if the Republican ticket gets back to the White House they would repeat the same mistakes that led to the economic crisis.

He also recently posted the Des Moines Register’s editorial in Twitter, which he thinks shows that most Romney plans are unrealistic. The editorial says that is obvious that the welfare check should require work, and that President Obama is not against it. The editorial adds that Mitt Romney is trying to convince the voters that Obama would end work requirements from the welfare check, which is not practical.

The editorial also talks about Iowa, a key state battleground, and how only about 15,000 Iowans receive a monthly check from the government, which only gives them about $334. The editorial adds that the requirements to qualify for the check have become harder, because in the past almost 12 million people received their welfare check and now only 4 million are beneficiaries.

The editorial also explains that the idea that people are relying on the government just waiting for the state to send them the check is benefiting Romney, that’s why he continues using it.

Messina also tweeted the Denver Post editorial, which is in his same line of thinking, that says that Romney chose a radical candidate. The editorial considers that Ryan’s budget plan is radical.

The main ideas expressed in the editorial are that Ryan’s budget plan would lower Bush tax cuts for the wealthier Americans. The editorial also adds that Ryan intends to transform Medicare into a voucher system.

The Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus, has defended Romney and Ryan against the different accusations they have received, Priebus wrote on his Twitter account: “Obama campaign about small things – accusing Romney of being a felon & murderer. Next thing you know, they’ll accuse Romney of eating a dog.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Vice president Joe Biden has two main things in common with Paul Ryan, the person who is trying to substitute him. Both are Catholics and both suffered terrible loses when they were young. Ryan lost his father and Biden lost his wife and daughter in a crash in 1972. Also, both men have clear differences in the way they plan to run the country and Biden recently called Ryan’s policies “irresponsible.”

In a political rally in Durham, N.C. Biden said that Romney and Ryan are decent men, but they have very different values from him and Obama. He said their main differences are in education policies, tax issues and government spending. Both Republican and Democrat tickets have very different points of view on how these issues should be handled.

Also, Biden referred to Ryan’s plan to privatize social security as irresponsible. The vice president criticized that Ryan wants to end Medicare and give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires.

Obama, who has been campaigning in the swing state of Iowa, criticized Ryan for blocking a farm bill that could help the farmers get the resources they need. President Obama during a rally in Iowa stated: “If you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities,” Obama added “we’ve got to put politics aside when it comes to doing the right thing for rural America and for Iowa.” The Democrats are trying to deflect all the positive attention Ryan could get by making hard accusations on him and trying to prove his budget plan would only favor the wealthy.

On the Medicare issue Romney has defended his running mate, saying that what he intends to do is to preserve Medicare. Romney added that Ryan has different ideas than Obama, and added that “the president’s idea, for example, for Medicare, was to cut it by $700 billion. That’s not the right answer.”

Ryan has also defended the accusations that he would turn Medicare into a voucher system. He said that his mother is a Medicare senior in Florida, and criticized the government by saying that the government made promises to the elderly community, promises with which they have organized their retirement. He added that if the government wants to fulfill those promises it needs to reform Medicare for the younger generation, and that is what he intends to do in order to guarantee a secure future for the elderly.

Romney said that the only president in the nation’s history that has robbed Medicare is Obama. He stated: ”There’s only one president that I know of in history that robbed Medicare,” and added that it was going to cost $716 billion to implement his own risky program commonly called Obamacare.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Paul Ryan has been chosen as Mitt Romney’s running mate in the upcoming US elections. After his nomination he updated his new Twitter account @PaulRyanVp with the following: “I’m honored to join @MittRomney on America’s Comeback Team. http://mi.tt/Romney-Ryan #RomneyRyan2012.”

Paul Ryan was born in the community of Janesville, Wisconsin. He is a graduate of Joseph A. Craig High School from his home town and earned a degree in economics and political science from Miami University in Ohio.

Ryan has served in Wisconsin’s first congressional district since 1999, but as of August 11, Ryan became the Vice President hopeful in Romney’s campaign.

As the Chairman of the House Budget Committee he gained notoriety by working to bring fiscal deficit and accountability to the government. He is seen as a “fiscal hawk,” representing what some believe Obama is not. He has criticized the exaggerated government spendings of the past years. He proposed a new plan that would eliminate medicare. He plans to change it from an insurance program to one where seniors get government subsidy to buy their own private insurance. Ryan’s ideas are clear: small government and low taxes.

In Ryan’s first speech he first thanked Romney for the opportunity of being his running mate and said that the former government is the leader the country needs during these difficult times. Ryan also introduced his family to the crowd, his wife, his daughter and his two sons.

Paul Ryan is only 42 years old. In his speech he said he is committed to putt his Congress ideas and experience into Romney’s administration. He declared that Romney is the one that would put America back into the prosperity road. Ryan connected easily with the crowd with simple words and stories, for example he told a story about his dad who died when he was young. He told that his dad always said: “Son, you are either part of the problem or part of the solution.” He added that Barack Obama has become part of the problem and Romney is the solution.

The Republican nominee also admitted that Obama did not inherit a good economic situation, but he explained that during the first two years in which the Democrat’s where in control of Congress and in which Obama was able to pass nearly “every item in his agenda, but that didn’t make things better.” Ryan criticized Obama’s economic management, saying that his has been “the worst economic recovery in 70 years, unemployment has been above 8% for more than three years, the longest run since the Great Depression.”

Ryan also said that the U.S. has now the biggest deficit and the largest government since WWII, and said that Obama’s government has a record of failure. He also criticized Obama for not being willing to make difficult decisions to fix the country because he is only thinking about the next election.

Ryan also made a declaration that pleased the conservatives. He said that our “rights come from nature and God, not from government.” He added that “this idea was founded on the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise, self-determination and government by consent of the governed.” Paul Ryan said that this idea is now under assault, freedom and security are being threatened and Ryan promised that if they were elected they “won’t replace the founding principles, they would reapply them.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

A new Mitt Romney ad is accusing President Obama of endangering the religious freedom in the nation. The video invokes Pope John Paul II and criticizes that Obama is forcing religious institutions to act against their beliefs because of his contraception coverage rule.

Romney’s ad is not the first or the last time Barack Obama will be accused of threatening religious freedom in the United States, many have already expressed their rejection for Obama’s health-care reform claiming it violates freedom of conscience.

Kathleen Parker, Washington Post opinion columnist, explained that Obama’s health-care reform was forcing the Catholic institutions to pay for an insurance that would cover abortive drugs, which is clearly against the Catholic Church fundamental beliefs.

In this new reform Catholic churches and their direct employees are exempt from the rule, but other Catholic-sponsored entities, among which we can find schools and hospitals that employ non-Catholics are non-exempt from the rule. So they are forced to complain or to pay fines in order to avoid the rule that is against their faith.

Timothy Dolan, Wall Street Journal Opinion columnist, said “Religious freedom is the lifeblood of the American people, the cornerstone of American government.” Dolan quotes many of the nation’s founding fathers defending freedom of conscience; he wrote that George Washington declared: “The conscientious scruples of all men should be treated with great delicacy and tenderness; and it is my wish and desire, that the laws may always be extensively accommodated to them,” and added that James Madison also said that “conscience is the most sacred of all property.”

What Dolan criticizes more is the fact that Obama’s administration proposed a religious employer exemption, but this is very narrow because it only applies to religious organizations that mostly serve people of their own religion. Dolan says the Obama administrations has refused to exempt other religious institutions like schools, charities or hospitals, from this rule, which mandates the employers to purchase contraception methods.

Some critics also think the Catholic Church is exaggerating, the L.A. Times editorial states: “Is religious freedom suddenly under attack in America? That’s what the nation’s Roman Catholic bishops and some non-Catholic allies would have you believe. But reports of the demise of this fundamental liberty are greatly exaggerated.”

But the Romney ad has taken advantage of all the criticism Obama has received, a narrator in the video says, “Who shares your values? President Obama used his healthcare plan to declare war on religion,” and adds that “Mitt Romney believes that’s wrong.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

David and Charles Koch, better known as the “Koch brothers,” are important figures among the Republicans and one of Mitt Romney’s most important campaign donators. Because of their support to the Republicans, they have received a lot of criticism; one of the latest comes from Hollywood. The comedy ‘The Campaign’ features two wealthy donors called the “Motch brothers,” which is a clear reference to the co-owners of the energy giant Koch industries, who try to manipulate political campaigns.

‘The Campaign’ protagonists are Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, who is well known for playing Alan in ‘The Hangover’ movies. Galifiankis told the New York Daily News that it was obvious that the “Motch brothers” were made after David and Charles Koch. ‘The Hangover’ actor added that he disagrees with everything the Koch brothers do. He even called the Koch brother “creepy” and said “it is not freedom what they are doing.”

In the movie the “Motch brothers” are played by Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow. They are financially backing the ridiculous candidate Marty Huggins, who is played by Galifianakis.

David and Charles Koch have an estimated combined fortune of $50 billion. They are the owners of Koch Industries, the second largest privately owned company in the United States. They have donated an estimated amount of $100 million to Romney’s campaign. They recently hosted a fundraiser for Mitt Romney in Southampton, New York, in which the suggested contribution was $75,000 per couple. This caused a protest lead by Kean University professor Stuart Leonard Led, in which banners with phrases like “Your $50,000 ticket equals my child’s education,” were shown.

Galifianakis, whose uncle was a Democratic congressman for North Carolina from 1967 to 1973, thinks that, as a comedian, he has the right to criticize the political system. He stated: ”everyone can agree that there are a lot of outside influences in American politics that are not good for the system. There’s just too much money,” Galifianakis also added that ”the comedians are the first to rebel against a corrupt system, like the one that is preventing me from watching the Olympics right now.”

The Koch brothers reaction was quickly heard. One of their spokesmen released a statement to remove importance from Galifianakis’ declarations, ridiculing him:

“Last we checked, the movie is a comedy. Maybe more to the point is that it’s laughable to take political guidance or moral instruction from a guy who makes obscene gestures with a monkey on a bus in Bangkok,” said the Koch brother’s spokesman, Phillip Ellender.

A recent post on Obama’s official website also makes reference to the Koch brothers. It quotes Obama’s campaign donor, Daryl, who is a salesman from Pennsylvania, stating: “I donated in 2008, and now I’m back at it. I certainly can’t compete with the Koch Brothers or the other billionaires on Mitt Romney’s side, but I can do a little bit.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

While campaigning in Colorado, Barack Obama warned the voters that Mitt Romney was planning to kill his health reform and get rid of Planned Parenthood.

Obama criticized that Romney’s policies were more suitable for the 1950s than the 21st century. To defend his position Obama stated that woman’s health decisions are “not up to politicians, they’re not up to insurance companies, they’re up to you.” The President is making a big effort to insure the female voters support in swing states like Colorado.

President Obama made a direct reference to his wife and his late mother; he said that women issues resonate in him because of them. Obama argued that he wanted his wife to be able to have control over her health care choices, that’s why he is insisting so much in this health-care reform. He defends that it will bring many benefits to women.

Also Obama made a very sentimental statement referring to his late mother to defend the Obama care benefits, he said she would have been 70 this year, if she had not died from cancer almost 20 years ago. He stated: “I often think about what might have happened if a doctor had caught her cancer sooner.”

Obama made a harsh criticism directed to Romney, saying that the next president “could tip the balance in a way that turns back the clock for women in the next decade to come.” It seems the Democrats are making a big effort to confront the Republicans with the female voters, arguing that if Romney wins, women will lose many of the rights they have conquered in recent years.

Sandra Fluke, the famous Georgetown student who has become one of the leading voices supporting Obama’s health reform, was the one that introduced Obama in Colorado to a crowd formed mostly of women. Fluke became popular after being called a slut by talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh said during his radio talk show that Fluke went before a “Congressional Committee and essentially said that she must be paid to have sex.” Limbaugh added that her comments made Fluke a whore because she wanted to be paid to have sex. Fluke demanded before the Congressional Committee that insurance coverage should cover contraception methods. Limbaugh said that Fluke is “having so much sex that she can’t afford the contraception, and she wants you and me, and the tax payers to pay her to have sex.”

During Obama’s introduction, Fluke said that when she was “verbally attacked”, Barack Obama was one of us. She added that Obama defended her right to speak without being verbally insulted, and condemned the criticism she had received. Fluke also had some words saved for Mitt Romney, she said that “if Mr. Romney can’t stand up to extreme voices in his own party, then he will never stand up for us.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Both presidential candidates are doing a tremendous effort to gain female and working-class voters support. Both of them know how crucial these votes will be in key states and are already doing all they can to gain their sympathy.

Mitt Romney on August 11 is making a trip to some of the swing states that could decide this election: Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio. During these visits he will be accompanied by three of his possible vice-presidential picks: Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Ohio Senator Rob Portman. There is a possibility that during these visits he will announce who will be his running mate.

It is not a coincidence that five out of eleven speakers announced for the Republican National Convention are women. Romney has also been accusing Obama of planning to double out taxpayer dollars, even for people who are not trying to find work. This accusation has the clear goal to gain working-class voters favor.

President Obama on the other hand had an appearance scheduled for August 8 with Sandra Fluke, the famous Georgetown University student who became a leader for pro-choice women. Fluke became known nationwide after being called a slut by conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh for her support of Obama’s health care that requires insurance companies to cover contraception.

The President wants to take advantage of Fluke’s popularity to gain female voters support. Democrats have been accusing the Republicans of starting a war against women because of their opposition of the Affordable Care Act, which according to the Democrats will give the women many benefits and crucial protections. Obama is currently leading in female voters’ intentions in key states like Florida and Ohio.

President Obama has been insisting during his entire campaign that Romney wants to cut taxes for the rich and increase taxes for the middle class, and Obama on the other hand wants the rich to pay a little bit more, so in that way taxes for the middle class don’t have to increase. But Romney is intending to show that Obama plans would affect the middle class. Romney has warned that Obama is intending to undo Clinton’s welfare reforms by offering waivers to the states, in other words he is trying to convince the voters that Obama is a liberal, who wants to give the poor a free pass in expense of the middle class, which is the one he is supposedly defending.

The Democrats have not ignored these accusations, White House spokesman Jay Carney told Romney’s accusations were “categorically false and blatantly dishonest.”
