The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Culver City, U.S.A. – ”From The Basement,” the highly lauded music series, produced for the first time in 3D, will make its U.S. premiere on 3net – the 24/7 3D network from Sony, Discovery and IMAX this July, followed by the 2D premiere on Crackle, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s multiple-platform video entertainment network, in August. In the UK, Sky 3D and Sky Arts HD will air both the 3D and 2D versions of the new season that includes artists such as The Shins, Foster the People and Feist, among others.

Crackle will feature the first two seasons of the music series via the Crackle site as well as on Android handsets and tablets; Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch; as well as ROKU, PS3, Sony Streaming Player, Sony Blu-Ray, Sony Bravia, Google Chrome, and Xbox Gold members.

The show has previously featured exclusive performances from a diverse selection of musicians including Radiohead, Beck, Iggy and the Stooges, PJ Harvey, Jarvis Cocker, The Raconteurs, Fleet Foxes, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and Sonic Youth.

“‘From The Basement’ is the sort of iconic music series that we believe is a perfect fit for our channel,” said Tom Cosgrove, president and CEO, 3net. “The use of cutting-edge 3D production techniques has created the most intimate music experience ever made possible for television, further heightening the viewer’s sense of being directly alongside great artists and wholly immersed in their performances.”

“We consider ‘From The Basement’ to be the definitive show for music fans, and we couldn’t be prouder to feature past and upcoming seasons of the series to our viewers,” said Eric Berger, executive vice president, Digital Networks, Sony Pictures Television. “Nigel, Dilly and their partners have such an affinity for music and such confidence from the artists they work with, and that symbiosis is apparent in what they’re creating on-screen.”

“From The Basement” is the brainchild of creative talents including multi-Grammy winning record producer Nigel Godrich. Long-time Radiohead producer Godrich launched the series originally in 2007 alongside producers Dilly Gent, James Chads and John Woollcombe. Since then, the show has attracted increasing attention for its breadth of vision coupled with its hugely respectful and empathetic presentation of artists playing at the peak of their power.

Produced by this small group of dedicated individuals, the show has always aimed to focus on definitive live performances from some of the most creative and innovative artists of our time.

Godrich said, “My own personal goal is that in the future some of these performances might be seen as the truest representation of the state of these artists’ work, captured in a way that lets their talents speak – without the interference of presenters or audience.”

Hailed by media as “a new breed of music show” and “music TV at its best,” the series will be comprised of six, hour-long installments that are being filmed in Los Angeles and London.

All music in “From The Basement” is produced by Nigel Godrich. Dilly Gent, James Chads, John Woollcombe and Godrich are series producers. “From The Basement” is produced by FTB3 for 3net in association with Sony Pictures Television Networks and Crackle. Sony Pictures Television is distributing the series internationally, outside of the U.K..

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Macy Gray, newly signed with 429 Records, is preparing for the release of her stunning new album “COVERED”—a collection of all new recordings of handpicked songs she’s chosen to reinterpret in her own inimitable fashion. With a buzz kicked off by an announcement in Billboard and Rolling Stone, Macy is already confirmed to appear on prime media outlets including Conan, Late Show with David Letterman, Piers Morgan Tonight, Tavis Smiley, VH1 and more.

Produced by Hal Willner (Lou Reed, Metallica), Zoux and Macy Gray, “COVERED” tackles material largely drawn from indie rock songs from the last decade—interpretations her fans will be familiar with as she’s been performing them live over the years.

The album contains biting, dark signature tracks such as Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” or My Chemical Romance’s “Teenagers” which Gray subversively overhauls into something wholly her own. Also included are short skits featuring J.B. Smoove, Nicole Scherzinger and a guest appearance by Idris Elba.

“COVERED” will be released worldwide on 429 Records March 26th with a special iTunes edition available which contains exclusive remixes of “Sail” and “Here Comes The Rain Again.” In addition, Macy is planning a worldwide tour and has just completed the first video from the project. Helmed by famed director Robert DeVico (Pink, Lenny Kravitz, Missy Elliott), Macy’s first video from “COVERED” will be “Smoke Two Joints.”

The wildly colorful, party-inspired clip features Macy and her bandmates performing against a picturesque Hollywood Hills backdrop and will be available to media outlets this month.

Since her dazzling debut introduced this singular talent to the masses, Macy has forged an uncompromising musical path beholden to her own vision and garnering accolades at every juncture. With “COVERED” Macy has turned the cover album concept on its ear choosing edgy contemporary choices and approaching them in an innovative and uncompromising way. Not surprising considering she’s spent her career defying expectations and stretching musical boundaries.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Since the early 90’s with the debut of the song “Creep”, Radiohead has been consistently creating music that makes us all stop and scratch our heads, as if to say “Whatever it was that just happened… it’s strange but beautiful.” Their newest album, King of Limbs, is no exception.

At first listen, this album sounds just like any other Radiohead album: jazzy beats, random sounds being mixed of musical instruments (some easily recognizable, some not so much), Thom Yorke “singing” trippy lyrics. Just like every other Radiohead album, however, the more you listen to it, the more you begin to understand what they’re talking about.

[Sarah She1] The eight track album takes you into this same sort of euphoric dream state (in a way no one has truly made a successful career from since the days of Pink Floyd). All the while, a crazy little African beat is play in the background. It holds your hand, leading you down a path created from stories of seduction, betrayal and the end of the world; Yorke’s classic mumble-voice as your tour guide. It is a trip and a half.

King of Limbs blooms, literally. The first song of the album, entitled “Bloom”, gives the album a nice start. There is a pretty crazy drum beat that makes you want to close your eyes and try to picture what’s going on. “Open your mouth wide / a universal sigh,” cries Yorke, and from there, the song builds into some crazy ocean scene that includes jellyfish “floating by”.

What does it bloom into? A “Lotus Flower”, the fifth song on the album, and the album’s single. What starts off as a quiet little song, it gently builds into beautiful song about letting go. As Yorke coos in what can be best described as a chorus, “There’s an empty space inside my heart / Where the weeds take root / Tonight I’ll set you free / I’ll set you free / Slowly we unfurl as lotus flowers.” This song is also a perfect example of how Radiohead can manipulate you to feel a certain way, just by the use of sound.

If you’re looking for an even mellower song (as if Radiohead isn’t already pretty mellow), try “Codex” on for size. It’s slow and mostly composed of a nice piano accompaniment. It sounds like some sort of lullaby, and is just overall a work of art.

They are also manipulating their fans into utter chaos and confusion. With the release of this album, a flood gate of questions has burst open. In the last song on the album, the listener is told “if you think this is over, then you’re wrong.” Considering the whole album is only 38 minutes long (and as mentioned before, only eight songs), many Radiohead fans are left to believe that there will be another album coming out soon to finish up where King of Limbs started, or that this could be a prelude to something bigger. Although the band has publicly stated that there is not another album coming out anytime soon, it’s somewhat hard to believe. King of Limbs had minimal hype surrounding it, basically because no one really knew if and when it was coming, a pretty sketchy move for a band as popular as Radiohead.

Radiohead has come a long way since their Pablo Honey days, and this album just goes to show that. What they’re doing is somewhat ground-breaking, even for them. Although you may not notice at first listen, their sound has matured. Set all preconceived notions aside, check your comparative tendencies at the door (NOTHING will ever be the new “Nude”) and see what kind of court the King of Limbs is keeping.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Have you heard what’s new and rocking on? Radiohead, that’s what’s hot.

This year the band is back and it has returned with more strength and songs with their new album named The King of Limbs. Radiohead’s followers and fans have already embraced this new MP3 album with all their enthusiasm. There are many expectations to finally get to listen what this new album brings, after their past 2008 release In Rainbows, which left the bands followers with the mouths opened and with the ought to hear more, after revealing an extraordinary composure of songs which swap impressions from better to best.

Promoting their album in an exclusive way was a great technique for the rock band to differ from other bands. Their new album could only be found and available in the bands Website. They recurred to limit other purchase places, making their new single be discovered in the place which they feel more represented, and that know their fans visit often. The MP3 album is available for $9 and is giving out great responses and it is having a great success.

The band wants to transmit the image of being different among the rest of the bands. While releasing their disc, they didn’t invert Money into marketing strategies, in Fact, they decided to make it all much simpler, since they relieve that their fans have enough motivation to purchase a new album, so they didn’t rely in any type of campaigns or promotion. The release of the new album was announced for the first time on Valentine’s Day, just five days away from the official release.

The new album is leaving smiles upon the followers’ faces, which unbelievably can agree that every album of Radiohead gets better. The band has a unique style, which resembles a lot of confidence, because they know that the rock music they produce is really great rock songs, and they trust their followers. Probable being one of the unique bands that leaves everything to their followers caring to satisfied them, by creating songs that mean something for them and to their fans.
