The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Although the contract details have not been made public as of this morning, it is being reported that Peyton Manning has chosen to take his talents to Denver.

The Denver Broncos won out against several other teams who were said to be in the running for the services of Manning who was just released by the Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos won the division with an 8-8 record last year and made the playoffs with young polarizing Tim Tebow running the show. Tebow proved that he can win in the NFL but for the last 14 years, Peyton Manning has proven that he is a future Hall of Famer. The decision was simple, even for supporters of Tim Tebow.

At this point it is clear that Tebow will most likely be on the trading block and probably be shipped to another team before the ink dries on Payton’s new contract.

Peyton chose to go play in the AFC West instead of the NFC West with the 49ers, taking the more difficult route to the Super Bowl — considering how difficult their schedule will be for the upcoming season in Denver. The 49ers who were in hot pursuit would have given Peyton a top ten defense along with an improving receiving corps, not to mention a division with teams like the Rams and the Seahawks. Instead, Peyton will compete with the underachieving but tough San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders (who play hard) and the improving Kansas City Chiefs.

It is an interesting decision by Peyton because of what went on in Denver last season with Tebow mania and the talent, or lack thereof, on this roster. The last memory we have of this team is the post season blowout at the hands of the New England Patriots where the defense had no answers for the Patriot offense. Leader of defense Brian Dawkins, too, is a year older and the injuries continue to pile up. Champ Bailey, one of the greatest defensive backs in NFL history, is also not getting any younger. Although he played at a pro bowl level last season, there were times where he looked slow and outclassed. Linebacker D.J Williams might be out for the first six games due to a drug suspension and the defense will most certainly suffer.

It won’t be as easy as people think, especially playing with the toughest schedule, but Peyton will bring balance to this team. We won’t see a tired defense forced to hold teams to 12 points in order to win eight games. The pressure will be high but Manning chose this team and must know what he is doing. It is fitting that he is likely to end his career playing for John Elway, maybe even winning a Super Bowl.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Besides the Packers which are again atop the Power Rankings this week, there is some shake up near the top of this week’s rankings with some big losses and gains. The 49ers move up into the number 2 spot sitting at 6-1 atop the NFC West. The Steelers, after their big win over the Patriots, move up to number 3 and are the top team in the AFC just ahead of division rivals Baltimore who moved from 8th to 5th.

The Patriots and Saints saw themselves drop four spots from 2nd and 3rd to 6th and 7th respectively after bad losses this week. The Chargers are the big losers this week dropping all the way from 7th down 15th after a loss for the 2nd straight week this time coming at the hands of division rivals the Chiefs.

The Eagles saw themselves jump four spots from 22nd to 18th after an impressive victory over the Cowboys. The Vikings also saw themselves making a jump from 28th to 23rd behind a second impressive game from rookie QB Christian Ponder and another stud performance from Adrian Peterson.

The Rams who got their first win of the season against the Saints saw themselves leapfrog the Cardinals who blew a 23-6 halftime lead against the Ravens. Bringing up the rear of the rankings again this week are the Dolphins at 31 and the Colts at 32 as both teams failed to get a win again and don’t look very good.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The Packers top the Power Rankings again this week with another impressive performance from Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers make a push for the top jumping up to 5th, and with a win over number 2 New England can jump up next week. The Texans, Falcons, and Chiefs all jumped up 5 spots to 12th, 14th, and 19th respectively.

The Ravens saw themselves drop from 3rd to 8th after a horrible loss to the Jaguars. The Raiders dropped 7 spots from 9th to 16th after trouble at the QB position post Carson Palmer trade gave them a loss going into their bye week. The Bucs also dropped 5 spots from 12th to 17th after getting whooped in London by the Bears.

The Colts again round out the bottom of the rankings this week after getting obliterated by the Saints 62-7 and they don’t look poised to move anytime soon.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Rams showed signs of competing early as they were getting after Eagles QB Michael Vick on almost every drop back. Philadelphia’s offensive line problems showed early. St. Louis forced and recovered a fumble and also sacked Vick two times. Rams picked up where they left off last year as they were 4th in the NFL in sacks.

Rams got the scoring started quickly. The first play from scrimmage was a touchdown to RB Steven Jackson for 47 yards. The Eagles linebackers were exposed early and often as the Rams RBs rushed for 169 yards. Philadelphia answered back with a 7 yard receiving touchdown to LeSean McCoy. On the next Rams possession RB Steven Jackson carried the ball one more time before leaving the game for good with a quad injury.

Sam Bradford was inconsistent on the day and the Eagles defense capitalized. Juqua Parker was the beneficiary of a 56 yard fumble return for a touchdown as Bradford was sacked. Eagles went into halftime with a 17-10 lead.

Despite the continuing offensive line problems, Michael Vick was just too much. He found ways to keep plays alive for the receivers and for himself. He finished with 14 completions on 32 attempts with 187 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also rushed 10 times for 98 yards.

In the 4th quarter LeSean McCoy sealed the game with a 47 yard rushing touchdown, his second of the game, and that made the score 31-13. To add insult to injury Rams WR Danny Amendola left the game later in the 4th with a dislocated shoulder.
