The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Looking back, many Americans now believe that Hilary Clinton would have been a better president over Barack Obama. Clinton was a 2008 presidential nominee against President Barack Obama, but lost in the race and instead made Secretary of State for the Barack administration.

Although a popular figure among most Americans, a recent Bloomberg poll conducted this month demonstrated that 64 per cent of Americans currently have a more favorable view of Clinton. The poll also included a study asking if the United States would be better off today with Clinton in the White House than it is under President Obama and 34 per cent agreed.

Only 13 per cent thought that the country would be worse off if Hilary Clinton was in office, along with 35 per cent of people who thought the country would be worse off with McCain as president. A share of 46 per cent think that the country would be about the same with either Clinton or President Obama in office.

After surveying 997 people, participants ranked Hilary Clinton at 27 per cent ‘very favorable’ which surpassed the current president with his 21 percent ‘very favorable’ rating. Dick Cheney even chimed in stating on Fox News while promoting his new book, that “perhaps she might have been easier for some of us who are critics of the President to work with.”

He also said, “I have the sense that she’s one of the more competent members of the current administration, and it would be interesting to speculate about how she might perform were she to be president.” Clinton’s recent speech at the U.N event on Monday encouraged women to get involved in democracies throughout the world.

She stressed the importance of a “true democracy” that includes women and was there to promote the future of women in politics. She stated, “If we want a safe, secure, prosperous, peaceful future [...] women must be equal partners and free to realize their own God-given potential.”

Last week Clinton also made an appearance at the UN General Assembly, urging a peaceful solution through negotiations for Israel and Palestine. This speech was intended to smooth over plans by Palestine to ask the United Nations to declare the Israeli-occupied land independent and recognize the Palestinian territory as sovereign.

Unfortunate for many hopefuls, Hilary Clinton thus far has not shown any steps towards entering the 2012 presidential race. She said that she wouldn’t run for president again and was looking forward to retirement in an interview with Anne Curry in 2009.

Her approval rating and popularity might make it hard for her to turn down the opportunity though, and the polls show that many people wish they could get another opportunity to vote differently and elect Clinton into office.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Labor Day was predicted by many as the day Sarah Palin would announce if she would run for president in 2012, but it<ins cite="mailto:samantha%20steinberg" datetime="2011-09-12T10:00"> </ins>seems as if Palin is holding back until the right moment, if there is a moment at all.

Sarah Palin, the former Governor of Alaska who also ran for Vice President in the 2008 election, has had a busy few months, that of someone looking to run for election in 2012. But on the other hand, who wouldn’t want to make tons of money from speeches, book signings, and appearances along the political trail.

Jim DeMint, Senator of South Carolina, believes that Palin is simply trying to stay involved in American politics and state her opinions without actually immersing herself completely in the race.

Senator DeMint hosted a political forum on Labor Day, where the leading GOP Presidential candidates all made appearances. DeMint told CBS, “It doesn’t appear that she [Palin] is going to run. She’s done a lot, I think, to engage the American people and stir things up, which we really needed to do, to get American citizens more involved in the process. It made a big difference in the last election. My hope is it’ll make an even bigger difference in the next election, as people take back their government.” Others suppose that Palin’s recent actions are actually preparation for her to enter the race. Karl Rove said,” a scheduled next week that looks like that of a candidate, not a celebrity,” in regards to her tours and speeches she will be making in the next several months.

Palin herself is still unsure about her status in the race but insinuated she may join the race by fall when she made a speech in Iowa this past week, where she stated her five step plan for job creation. But whether Palin is running of not, there have been predictions if she even has any chance of winning the election.

Among her supporters is the Tea Party, which would be happy to see her run, as well as the 600 people who showed up to support her on Labor Day in Concord, New Hampshire. This was twice as many that showed up for Romney, which illustrates that Palin may have a chance against some of the other contenders.

Although Palin is not officially a candidate yet, she is showing to have enough support to place her in third place behind Rick Perry and Romney in a CNN/Opinion Poll taken this week. But according to many polls that are examining a hypothetical race between President Obama vs. Palin, she does not look as if she has a chance to beat the President in a one on one race.

According to a CNN Opinion Research poll, 55% of registered voters would vote for President Obama in 2012, and only 41% for Palin, with 4% undecided. A CNN Opinion Research poll also showed that only 7% of people think Palin could win against the President. President Obama released the American Jobs Act this week, which could change the face of the whole election.

If all things go as promised within the year, the president could look at another reelection. On the other hand if things don’t go as planned, Palin could have an easier time gaining support if she does decide to enter the race and her five-step plan is attractive to voters.

Whether Palin will run or not will most likely surface within the upcoming weeks. Until then, the crowd will remain anxiously waiting.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Obama is not likely to win another election according to recent studies. Voters are doubtful about the economy and its’ future, which may impact President Obama’s relection in 2012.

Democrats are hopeful there will be a change in the next year to make Obama a two-term president. However, events that could help him, such as the assassination of Osama Bin Laden, seem to have been put on the back burner. Negative topics such as the economy are still in the spotlight.

Unemployment is at 9.2 per cent throughout the country, and it is a fundamental issue on many voters’ minds. President Obama may have a tough time gaining support unless something positive happens within the next year. The overall support throughout the country does not look promising for the president and certainly won’t be enough to get him reelected.

A recent study by Harris Poll found that 42 per cent to 52 per cent of the public say they are unlikely to vote for President Obama and only 35 per cent think he will be reelected.

President Obama also faces tough competition against leading GOP presidential candidates who are running for election in 2012, including Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, and Rick Perry, who have made the economy their central focus in their campaigns.

In regards to President Obama’s handling of the economy Romney said, “When you see what this president has done to the economy in just three years, you know why America doesn’t want to find out what he can do in eight.” It is hard for voters to resist candidates who promise job creation and a better economy.

Security, which was recorded in a recent poll conducted by Barna Group, was also a top priority in the public that would influence which candidate to vote for in 2012. Security is something President Obama has proven he can provide for Americans. The victory of Osama Bin Laden’s death during his presidency could carry some substantial weight.

President Obama’s approval rating went up ten percent to 57 per cent the month after the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. His overall handling of foreign policy issues has also helped his rating. This could help Obama substantially, such as when Sadam Hussein was captured under the Bush administration.

President Bush was able to draw out his support through his second term and got reelected in 2004 because of this event; much like this could help Obama in his reelection.

Another aspect that is beneficial for the President is his promise to withdraw 30,000 troops from Afghanistan by 2012, which could help his campaign from supporters against the war. Other candidates running in the election are still making promises that voters are willing to take their chances on unless President Obama make some moves in the upcoming year.

With many odds working against President Obama, we will have to wait and see if he will have another four years in office, or if voters will look for someone who yet again can promise “change.”
