The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The CACCC is proud to announce that their largest fundraiser of the year, Gala 2012, will spotlight a performance by Grammy Award winning Rock and Roll group, The Doobie Brothers. Gala 2012, themed A Moment in Time, will be held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas on March 31, 2012.

With more than 50 million records sold, two Grammy awards, 13 Gold albums, The Doobie Brothers have established themselves as one of America’s most loved bands. They have achieved and sustained a phenomenal level of success, including 27 chart singles, 16 top 40 hits and the rare honor of The Diamond Award for 10 million units of a single title, “Best of Doobies Vol. 1.”

Over the years, The Doobie Brothers’ music has generated success in their diversity, evolving from country blues-based into a sound emphasizing both R&B and jazz elements. From guitar-fueled rockers like “Listen to the Music,” and “Long Train Running” to the folk chart topper “Black Water,” The Doobie Brothers have defied a single label.

The CACCC Vice President of Development, Melanie Carroll, says, “The success of this event is vital in being able to provide abused and neglected in Collin County with our services. That is why we have strived to make this year’s event better than ever before. Not only will the evening include a jaw-dropping performance by the Doobie Brothers, but it will also feature an exciting live and silent auction, and the raffle of a brand new 2012 Lexus. This is one event you won’t want to miss!”

Last year alone there were over 4,000 reports of child abuse made in Collin County, an alarming average of 10 reports daily. The CACCC CEO, Lynne McLean, states, “In these difficult economic times, children need our help more than ever. It is this Gala that provides the funds that ensure that when children need us, we are there.”

Honorary Gala Chair, Marsha Sparks, says, “Early in its history, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County committed to serve 100% of all child abuse and neglect cases in Collin County, and so much remains to be done. Abuse numbers continue to grow; the Center must have the resources to respond. As a primary source of revenue in a changing landscape of funding, the CACCC gala is more important than ever. A phenomenal evening awaits….please join us.”

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Rumors about a possible Rolling Stones world tour and maybe even a new album in 2012–the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the English rock ’n’ roll band’s career–have been circulating in the internet for the entire past year.

At first the tour was billed as the farewell of the historical rock band to the music scene: after fifty years of greatness everybody deserves some rest. However, this is not the idea that the Rolling Stones have in mind. Ronnie Wood, one of the band guitarists, declared: “We have all agreed this won’t be the last time.

Everyone’s rocking. We’ll rock ’till we drop!” This declaration not only clears the mind of those who were worried about the band leaving the scene, but it confirms that the talks about the tour are realistic. What is certain is that the band is discussing it.

Keith Richards, for example, expressed his wish to tour with the old band mates in more than one interview. He wants it to be a different tour, to innovate the idea behind their last live performances accompanying it by a coming back to their blues roots. “It doesn’t have to be the whole spectacle bullshit again, but we’ve got to find our own way through this” said Richards to the almost homonymous “Rolling Stone” magazine.

Sir Mick Jagger on the other hand has addressed the issue in contradictory ways. In September he declared to “USA Today” that a tour was “not on the table”, and was more concentrated on exploring his “SuperHeavy” project; he then told “Rolling Stone” in late November about the possibility of the Stones tour “It is quite amazing when you think about it, anything’s possible.”

What is due to be solved, though, is the relationship between Richards and Jagger. In his autobiography, Richards addresses his “frenemy” Jagger in an unkind way; it seems that Sir Mick did not take this well, and band mates are trying to guide them through a reconciliation.

In December a meeting in London took place: the band members jammed during a three day session. Nothing was recorded, but all the members participated. Jagger joined only the last day of the sessions. There is nothing official about what came out of the meeting between the guitarist and the frontman, but rumors say that they got along pretty well, giving hopes to those who are waiting for this year’s event to take place.

Additionally, in late December, a tour date was announced by “Event & Ticket Shop Ltd.” to take place at the “Ernst Happel Stadion” in Vienna (Austria), giving no precise indication about the time but only a general “Summer 2012.” That was enough, though, to create excitement among the world fans and regenerate their hopes.

Hence, even if there is nothing official confirming the world tour by the Rolling Stones in 2012, the signs of one happening seem to be promising. In the meanwhile fans can enjoy themselves with the new material that the band recently made available at www.stonesarchive.com, opening the doors to its archive, with film, memorabilia and music, including previously unheard tracks.

Fans also have the opportunity to buy personalized merchandise, tour gear and much more in the online shop. It seems to be a lot of new stuff to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band, and fans are hopefully waiting for the tour to happen.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Yesterday’s tragic death of Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse adds another name to the infamous 27 Club.

The number 27 has become a symbol for lost talent in music history – many great musicians have died during this age. This has led to the creation of the club known as the 27 Club.

More than 30 musicians have been added to the list over the years and and yesterday the Club added another great singer.

Being part of this club for some can mean gaining status as a legend, for others its their natural end of their lives.

The 27 Club includes several artists that have made a remarkable impact on the music world. The original musicians usually referred to when speaking of the club are Rolling Stones man Brian Jones, pioneering guitarist Jimmi Hendrix, singer Janis Joplin, Doors front man Jim Morrison and the face of Seattle grunge Kurt Cobain.

Neil Young once said “it’s better to burn out than to fade away”, this phrase was found in the suicide note of Kurt Cobain. The burn word on this phrase emphasizes the idea of leaving a mark on this world rather than just being forgotten.

These great musicians ended up leaving this world at the height of their musical creativity, leaving an imprint that will never wear out through their bands — The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and Nirvana.

What all of these legendary musicians have in common besides their musical brilliance is the tragic way in which they died. Their deaths differ but most of them have been associated with drug abuse. It’s also said that with the exception of Janis Joplin, a confirmed suicide, all of these deaths have been suspicious in their own way.

Is 27 the age we should fear? Linda Blair, a clinical psychologist, try to answer this question by explaining: “Of course late twenties is not that old, but we spend an awful lot of our twenties defining ourselves with our jobs, with our relationships. When we reach 27 we’ve been trying so hard to reach certain goals – fame, money, success – that we might suddenly realize for the first time that we’re not that happy after all. And we are supposed to be grown-up and responsible, and we don’t feel ready.” The age represents the final step into adulthood and enforces the thought of growing up and leaving behind the carelessness of youth.

Some would say Amy Winehouse´s death was unavoidable while some are in shock. The responses coming in through twitter speak of both sadness and predictions – many from the music industry have expressed their deepest condolences to her family.

The only thing left by the legends lost at 27 is their music which will live on in our minds and their lyrics which will never be forgotten.
