Four people were killed Tuesday following a serial shooting that occurred in Carson City, Nevada. A man armed with a AK-47 opened fire at an IHOP restaurant and shot five members of the National Guard, killing three of them.

The shooter, 32 year old Eduardo Sencion, shot and killed another woman and wounded five others before taking his own life, raising the death toll to five people. The shooting took place just after 9am during the restaurants breakfast rush.

Minutes before opening fire at IHOP, the shooter drove his brother’s blue minivan into the strip mall parking and shot a bystander who was standing beside a motorcycle outside the restaurant. It is believed Sencion acted alone and while his motives are still unclear officials did say the shooter seemed to target National Guard members once inside the premises.

Sheriff Furlong spoke about the incident, “It appears as though his gunfire was primarily focused on those military members. We do not know whether or not the gunman was aware that there were National Guardsmen in the restaurant, but it appears as though he did. He had to travel through the entire restaurant to get to the back where the Guardsmen were having breakfast.”

Nevada police searched Sencion’s vehicle and found another rifle and pistol, an empty 30-round magazine and two other 30-round clips that contained bullets. Once Sencion exited the restaurant, he supposedly got into a vehicle and drove around in circles. He fired shots towards a nearby a H&R Block, a casino and barbecue restaurant, shattering the windows of the restaurant.

Ralph Swagler, owner of the barbecue restaurant, told The Associated Press that he saw the gunman pull up outside the restaurant and shoot the person on the motorcycle. He said “I wish I had shot at him, but he was going in the IHOP. But when he came at me, when somebody is pointing an automatic weapon at you, you can’t believe the firepower, the kind of rounds coming out of that weapon.”
